  • We hiked 31 kms of trail in 2 days, 1 night. Staring at the parking area of Hwy 60, we hiked 16 kms to Harness Lake where we camped for the night. The campsite was beautiful and we had the lake all to ourselves! (With the exception of 1 nosy merganser who insisted on checking us out a few times to mar sure we weren’t up to no good)
Day 2, we hiked out 15.3 kms , completing the loop back to the parking lot. Highlights include beautiful waterfalls, beautiful lakes, lots of rain and 1 gigantic moose.
Algonquin provincial park is the oldest and largest park in Ontario. With its proximity to Toronto, it is usually very busy but we wanted to check these trails off our list. All backpacking sites can be booked through the Ontario Parks website.

Great hike! Call me crazy, but I prefer hiking in the rain sometimes. It gives you a break from the summer heat and it makes the forest come alive.

Right!! I completely agree, as long as it stops when I get to camp 😉
