The greats take their anger and frustration and channel it down to the baseball, not even the ball, but a small patch where the bat contacts the ball. All that emotion goes into a 1-inch radius piece of leather and propels the baseball into the stands. Petty or not, this is the real drama of baseball. A guy I used to only dream of having and we now have him and only 9 games away from a WS. I wish my son (who is now 5) was just a little bit older, but man I am trying to enjoy and soak up as much as I can of all of this, bc I know one day Harper wont be anymore and that will be a sad day in Philly. Let go PHILLIES!!!
Congrats on the win. My team got swept, so I don’t have as much emotionally invested in the rest of the playoffs. I don’t hate the Braves, but I’ve been pulling a little bit for Philly in this series. I think it’s your guys turn.
This is what baseball is about. Your son is living in the midst of a baseball renaissance. Trout, Ohtani, Mookie, Acuna, Harper, and others. But specifically, the current Phillies team is something special. Never have I seen a clubhouse more in tune with each other, as if they are literally family. It's something else, and I'm glad we've been able to be part of it. Enjoy!
Are we talking about the same Bautista that got a ton of notoriety for his pimp job in 2015 only to lose it after getting his clock punched by Odor 5 months later?
It was pretty pathetic the way those Braves players responded. Instead of having their teammates back they started crying about "We thought we were talking in private! We feel betrayed!"
They’re mad because it leaked?? Come on, it’s like one of the first things you learn when you’re growing up: don’t say stuff behind someone’s back that you wouldn’t be afraid of saying to their face. Own it! Harper goofed up and you egged him on. Now you’ve got the egg on you
Harper didn't goof though. He ran aggressively on the bases. And, as much as everyone gives the OF credit for the catch (as well they should), the 3B dude is the one who made that fckn play to get Harper out. So, two miraculous plays else Harper likely scores. Just my perspective.
As a Braves fan, really wish they would have stayed humble after barely winning game 2. Travis is right, every clubhouse makes those comments after a game, but it sucks that got out cause they were not in a position to flex on Bryce Harper.
The media literally makes up whatever they want. It’s pathetic that it took a fake story from the media to get Bryce to hit the ball lol. Who cares guy is an Loser for how he carries himself
Harper is an absolute menace lol. I'm a lifelong Braves guy, but lots of respect to Harper. He made a blunder in game 2 but he made up for it big time in game 3. He's an absolute scourge to my Atlanta Braves lol.
We talk about basketball players having ice in their veins and having a killer mindset. Harper is one of the few baseball players that I feel carries this same kind of persona.
It's been a helluva long time since I've laughed as hard as I just did when Harper said, "Yeah, I mean I stared right at him." That's pretty bad ass. Stone Cold Bryce Harper.
Go back to Harper's rookie year. He's taking the league by storm, the Nationals are trying to carve out their little piece of the NL east by marketing him as part of their newly found 'Natitude'. The Phillies and Harper meet for the first time, and a seasoned Cole Hamels puts one into Harpers back in his first at bat. 'Welcome to the show kid'. Harper proceeds to find his way to third base and eventually steals home. When interviewed about the incident, Cole Hamels breaks protocol about it and says 'Yea I threw at him' ' He stole home on us so I guess we're even'. Up until this new comment by Harper, that was one of the most cold-blooded comments I've ever seen in an interview. lol. It earned Hamels a 4 game suspension. LOL.
Jomboy, I thought you would have for sure spotted the two guys on Harper’s first homerun that were on the roof taking a smoke break! You let me down bro!! 😂
As a Pads fan losing to the Phillies in the NLCS last year, I really enjoyed watching their run just as much. I’m pulling for them this year! As much as I don’t want the Astros in the WS this year, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Phillies get another shot at them! And now they added Trae, let’s go!
You mean like, while patting himself on the back? That would have been hilarious. Probably even more humiliating, too, by keeping it light. But Harper has given himself over to the dark side of the force, so the hard stares and the throat slitting gesture are definitely in character.
The only idiots that still peddle that narrative are Nationals fans and anyone trying to kid themselves that he's not on path to be a first ballot HOF'er.@@kylenyce8198
Never change, Bryce. I remember full well the staredown he did to Hunter Strickland after a homer in the 2014 NLDS, and the knucklehead Strickland remembered that 3 years later to plunk him and start a brawl. I was at that Memorial Day 2017 game. My three-year-old daughter asked me why the baseball men were fighting. 😅
The only thing that would top those reactions is if Strider loses a grip on a slider in the bottom of the first and hits Harper by accident and just gets insta-tossed.
I can't find evidence (because every search is now overwhelmed with recent stuff) but I'm pretty sure I've seen him do that a number of times through the year.
Yeah, but even as a Phillies fan, I never really liked it. I don't mind it quite as much now in the playoffs where elimination is a thing. But back in like April and through most of the season, it just seemed slightly poor taste. I love the big balls gesture and the glasses and the name on the chest thing from last year and a lot of the fun quirky stuff they do. I really love that clubhouse and all the characters on the team. Fucking Stubbs spanking his ass like he's riding a horse after Harper's second HR with Stott doing the big balls move. Buncha fuckin clowns. I love it. I don't hate the throat slash anymore, but I still don't love it. Idk, that's me. Also, yeah the barves fans are a buncha whiners--complaining about the format before they even lost.
@brendancurtin679 They are probably complaining because without a wildcard spot you guys would be on vacation right now. Wild card spots are like participation trophies for teams that can't win their division.

Phils fan here I had no issue with Arcia comment or Harper's response on the field, because for me these players have this type passion...I will take that all day as compared to players have prepare responses or robotic reactions for when players make mistakes or come up big.
For the initial so-called incident I agree. I would say the Braves got weirdly cocky for a team that came into the series with home field advantage and got lucky to not be facing elimination in game 3, but in the grand scheme of baseball it's a complete non issue. Where I lose respect for them a little bit is their whining about it getting out.
That's gotta feel good for ole Bryce, bet he slept like a baby last night. No one wants to hear someones making fun of you. Braves doomed now, bad energy.
In 2021 I worked on the Braves' AAA grounds crew. Arcia had just been traded over at that point and was new to the team. That season I watched him and Christian Pache (currently on the Phillies funny enough) come up with one clutch hit/play after another. They always seemed to be having the most fun on the field joking with almost everyone in their and opposing teams while everyone else always seemed so tense and serious. Once, I was hauling some used turface to a dumpsite when Orlando was pulling into the stadium and passed me. He was nice, waved back and said hey out the window which was cool because he was starting to get called up at that point. Lately, with him becoming this sort of villain in everyones eyes I feel the need to stick up and say he's a stand up guy who's earned his spot and become a starting all star, is loved by the league for his demeanor on the field, and if you think he isn't going to come back next season ready to tear up a baseball under pressure, then buena suerte 🤙
As a Braves fan, as much as I sports hate Harper and passionately want the Braves to win the next two games, as a fan of baseball, I have to admit Bryce's two homers and stare down of Arcia is just a lot fun. Postseason baseball at its best.
"I just love the pettiness, and the drama, of it all." When you think about it, yeah, he's right, it's ultimately just a game, and a game should be fun, and if something like this adds to the fun, so be it.
I heard that on the radio and was confused as I thought the game was in philly. The Braves announcers covered it by making a big deal about the throat slash

These sorts of things are great for the sport. Especially if you're just now getting your beak wet with MLB for the first time during the playoffs. 100% the best time to get into the MLB. Nearly every year, without fail, there's always so many great dramatic things like this that happen. It's like all of the pent up aggression from fighting your way to get to the P.S. over the course of a 162 game season just spills out. I love it.
@@michaelbaker602 Wouldn't be anywhere near a lock for a sweep. It would've been 2 outs top of 9th with a runner on 1st. Most likely game over anyways. Sure, there's a chance. A very small one that there'd be a HR even. I still agree it was one of Harper's many baserunning errors of this season. But I can at least understand the thinking behind it.
@michaelbaker602 I don't blame Harper for going for it. If he would have only went halfway, he would have been at first with 2 outs after tagging as I don't think he would've made it to second. He was just trying to be aggressive.
Harper 20 years later in his own last dance special: They made a good play and were bragging like they won the world series....and I took that very personally.
My favorite part of this was right after the game the reporter asked him about the stare down and he didn't talk smack, he didn't stir the pot, he just said "its a fun game". And when asked about setting a HR record he dismissed it and focused on the team win.
Ive lived outside Philly most of life. The best way to motivate the team and its fanbase is to nudge the chip that is permanently attached to their shoulders. I thought this dust up was a bit ridiculous and overblown but it worked as motivation for Harper.
Arcia was enjoying seeing a more talented player get humiliated in the previous game and said something off the cuff or in a fit of macho. In the next game Harper made him eat it and everyone knows it.
The Braves are too nice. They remind me of me. Except they actually have elite talent. Im a Phillies fan but i love a lot of their players like Olson, Riley, Albies, D'Arnaud, Arcia, Harris, and Acuña. How can you not love Ozzie? I was rooting like hell for them in 2021. I think they need a killer personality in that clubhouse. Doesn't even have to be a great player, just someone to get some nastiness out of them. And their pitching needs to stay healthy. The Braves and Phillies always seem so nice to each other on the base paths during the regular season. Hopefully that will continue but hopefully a new fierce postseason rivalry has also been born.
I can relate to the guy who got his glasses knocked off. My mother could spontaneously give birth, I could've just won the lotto, or WWIII could've just started with nukes, but I'd stop giving a shit about and lose focus on (literally and figuratively) of anything and everything until I got them back. Shit... It gives me anxiety just thinking about it.
In today's world where everyone has a camera and recorder on their phone, you need to make extra special clear that your actions and words won't be seen or heard outside of your circle. I'm a Braves fan but I like Bryce. He'd be on my team if I had one. Super competitive and one of the few players who can back up their words or actions. He doesn't need any extra motivation.
Harper should’ve said “atta boy Harper” both times as he was rounding 2nd 😭 Also Jomboy, I’m surprised you didn’t make any comments on the two goobers standing on top of the stadium roof 😂
Harper getting doubled up to end game two wasn’t a bad play necessarily by Harper, it was just that the center fielder made a phenomenal play in making the catch. At that moment Harper is looking to score and would have if the ball dropped. It’s not like he forgot there was only one out or had some huge mental error. But it’s really dumb to fuel a fire for Harper because he feeds off of emotion and always seems to step up.
It's still a terrible play. Both can be right. Not a Brave or Philly fan, but you don't round 2nd there because in all likelihood if it's not caught a guy with Harper's speed is scoring from 2nd anyways. You can't get doubled up there at ANY cost, Bryce knows it was a huge mistake too.
@@codingbee13 agree to disagree. Also not a fan of either team, however I don't know if Harper scores standing on 2nd the moment the ball it's the dirt. Any quick ricochet that gets back to the fielder immediately would have Harper dead at the plate. To play devils advocate, if the ball drops and due to Harper's tenetive baserunning results in him being stuck at third and is then unable to score after the Braves get two more outs then he would be criticized for making a bad read on the ball and should have been more agressive. I see and understand what he is doing; again he didn't forget about the number of outs nor was he running on a ball he thought was going to drop that was a routine pop fly. In the end it doesn't matter now as the Phillies are moving on.
@Ariaga_II also the ball doesn't have to hit the dirt before you leave the bag. Not sure if you just worded it like that or you actually think thats the rule. But you stand at second, leaning towards third and as soon as the ball makes contact with the defender you make your break forward or backward depending on catch or not. There's no excusing getting doubled off to end the game when you're the tying run. No matter what you say.

This is what all “petty drama” should be and how it should work out. This is how men work out their differences, not little boys. Harper surely knew it was harmless shit talking, but that shit still stings, and he knew what to do with it. He answered with two home runs. (He might have overdid the staredown a little, but maybe that’s part of the drama or part of the petty, idk.) Bench clearing grabfanny just gets old, too. The greats take their anger and frustration and channel it down to the baseball, not even the ball, but a small patch where the bat contacts the ball. All that emotion goes into a 1-inch radius piece of leather and propels the baseball into the stands.
Petty or not, this is the real drama of baseball. This is what makes it so fun and exciting to watch.
@@LordBurgerThat’s a good way of putting it, finding an extra gear. They don’t waste it, they use it. It’s like they take whatever negative emotions they’re feeling and channel them constructively by putting all the feelings onto a 2.9” spherical object and then knocking the snot out of it.
I have been a Phillies fan all 38 years of my life, all the way back when my dad used to take me to games at the vet watching lenny dykstra, darren daulton, kruk, etc, and then was blessed to have the 2007 - 2012 Phillies WS team, but idk, every time I am watching a Phillies games these days, its still so surreal to me that we have Bryce Harper on our team.

Enjoy!

It was pretty pathetic the way those Braves players responded. Instead of having their teammates back they started crying about "We thought we were talking in private! We feel betrayed!"
I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. Pretty good point.

They’re mad because it leaked?? Come on, it’s like one of the first things you learn when you’re growing up: don’t say stuff behind someone’s back that you wouldn’t be afraid of saying to their face. Own it! Harper goofed up and you egged him on. Now you’ve got the egg on you
I’m all for rivalry, but it does suck to realize every word you might say will get leaked, makes you feel like you always have to be guarded
Harper didn't goof though. He ran aggressively on the bases. And, as much as everyone gives the OF credit for the catch (as well they should), the 3B dude is the one who made that fckn play to get Harper out. So, two miraculous plays else Harper likely scores. Just my perspective.
Right? Come on of course that was going to leak. "The club house is a sanctuary" ok😄

Underrated comment
LOL.

The only thing that would have made it better is if Harper had given himself an "Attaboy!" as he ran past Arcia
Harper seems like he has matured enough to understand that would have got him ejected if the ump saw him say it lol😂
That would have been hilarious lol maybe too petty in harpers mind but I would have loved to see it
his attaboy was touching the bases
You mean like, while patting himself on the back? That would have been hilarious. Probably even more humiliating, too, by keeping it light. But Harper has given himself over to the dark side of the force, so the hard stares and the throat slitting gesture are definitely in character.

Should've included the Braves radio announcers whining and being exceptionally soft about Harper's throat slash.
The only thing that would top those reactions is if Strider loses a grip on a slider in the bottom of the first and hits Harper by accident and just gets insta-tossed.
I guess the Tomahawk chop is about cutting firewood.
I can't find evidence (because every search is now overwhelmed with recent stuff) but I'm pretty sure I've seen him do that a number of times through the year.

I love the big balls gesture and the glasses and the name on the chest thing from last year and a lot of the fun quirky stuff they do. I really love that clubhouse and all the characters on the team. For the initial so-called incident I agree. I would say the Braves got weirdly cocky for a team that came into the series with home field advantage and got lucky to not be facing elimination in game 3, but in the grand scheme of baseball it's a complete non issue.
The power for petty drama to be turned into heroic athletic performances will never stop being amazing to me. Agreed we need more petty drama.

Nope. Bad base running. Phillies would have been celebrating a sweep last night. Harper has a hard time with the concept of team.
@@michaelbaker602 Wouldn't be anywhere near a lock for a sweep. It would've been 2 outs top of 9th with a runner on 1st. Most likely game over anyways. Sure, there's a chance. @michaelbaker602 I don't blame Harper for going for it. If he would have only went halfway, he would have been at first with 2 outs after tagging as I don't think he would've made it to second. He was just trying to be aggressive.

You missed the part where two random dudes are somehow standing on the roof of the stadium in Harper's first HR hahaha
Ive lived outside Philly most of life. The best way to motivate the team and its fanbase is to nudge the chip that is permanently attached to their shoulders. I thought this dust up was a bit ridiculous and overblown but it worked as motivation for Harper.
I love them cutting to Harper so many times after his hr and he just looks PISSED

Yeah lmao I love how Braves fans keep mentioning that Harper made a grave error instead of applauding how Harris made a spectacular catch
