      As a professional reported you know what shouldn't leave the room.....even if you hear it. You have privileged access to all these secrets, you are expected to know better than to report something that can be used as bulletin board material for the other team. If this was said in response to a direct question you asked then it would be fair game. This was nothing more than celebration and comradery not spoken to a reporter. Something that was never meant to be heard or reported outside of the locker room.

      Jake Mintz, one of the reporters who made this public, brought this up on his podcast. Basic etiquette seems to if it's a private conversations between a small group of players, reporters won't report it. If a player specifically asks for something not to go on the record, they won't report it. Sounds like Arcia said this to the room and didn't ask for it to be off the record. Like you said, sounds like Mintz was doing his job.

      This is what all “petty drama” should be and how it should work out. This is how men work out their differences, not little boys. Harper surely knew it was harmless shit talking, but that shit still stings, and he knew what to do with it. He answered with two home runs. (He might have overdid the staredown a little, but maybe that’s part of the drama or part of the petty, idk.) Bench clearing grabfanny just gets old, too. The greats take their anger and frustration and channel it down to the baseball, not even the ball, but a small patch where the bat contacts the ball. All that emotion goes into a 1-inch radius piece of leather and propels the baseball into the stands.
      Petty or not, this is the real drama of baseball. This is what makes it so fun and exciting to watch.

      Go back to Harper's rookie year. He's taking the league by storm, the Nationals are trying to carve out their little piece of the NL east by marketing him as part of their newly found 'Natitude'. The Phillies and Harper meet for the first time, and a seasoned Cole Hamels puts one into Harpers back in his first at bat. 'Welcome to the show kid'. Harper proceeds to find his way to third base and eventually steals home. When interviewed about the incident, Cole Hamels breaks protocol about it and says 'Yea I threw at him' ' He stole home on us so I guess we're even'. Up until this new comment by Harper, that was one of the most cold-blooded comments I've ever seen in an interview. lol. It earned Hamels a 4 game suspension. LOL.

That season I watched him and Christian Pache (currently on the Phillies funny enough) come up with one clutch hit/play after another. They always seemed to be having the most fun on the field joking with almost everyone in their and opposing teams while everyone else always seemed so tense and serious. Once, I was hauling some used turface to a dumpsite when Orlando was pulling into the stadium and passed me. He was nice, waved back and said hey out the window which was cool because he was starting to get called up at that point. Lately, with him becoming this sort of villain in everyones eyes I feel the need to stick up and say he's a stand up guy who's earned his spot and become a starting all star, is loved by the league for his demeanor on the field, and if you think he isn't going to come back next season ready to tear up a baseball under pressure, then buena suerte 🤙

    In today's world where everyone has a camera and recorder on their phone, you need to make extra special clear that your actions and words won't be seen or heard outside of your circle. I'm a Braves fan but I like Bryce. He'd be on my team if I had one. Super competitive and one of the few players who can back up their words or actions. He doesn't need any extra motivation.

    Harper getting doubled up to end game two wasn’t a bad play necessarily by Harper, it was just that the center fielder made a phenomenal play in making the catch. At that moment Harper is looking to score and would have if the ball dropped. It’s not like he forgot there was only one out or had some huge mental error.
    But it’s really dumb to fuel a fire for Harper because he feeds off of emotion and always seems to step up.

      Yeah lmao I love how Braves fans keep mentioning that Harper made a grave error instead of applauding how Harris made a spectacular catch

      It's still a terrible play. Both can be right. Not a Brave or Philly fan, but you don't round 2nd there because in all likelihood if it's not caught a guy with Harper's speed is scoring from 2nd anyways. You can't get doubled up there at ANY cost, Bryce knows it was a huge mistake too.

    • @Ariaga_II
      @Ariaga_II Год назад

      @@codingbee13 agree to disagree. Also not a fan of either team, however I don't know if Harper scores standing on 2nd the moment the ball it's the dirt. Any quick ricochet that gets back to the fielder immediately would have Harper dead at the plate.
      To play devils advocate, if the ball drops and due to Harper's tenetive baserunning results in him being stuck at third and is then unable to score after the Braves get two more outs then he would be criticized for making a bad read on the ball and should have been more agressive.
      I see and understand what he is doing; again he didn't forget about the number of outs nor was he running on a ball he thought was going to drop that was a routine pop fly. In the end it doesn't matter now as the Phillies are moving on.

      @codingbee13 Год назад

      @Ariaga_II also the ball doesn't have to hit the dirt before you leave the bag. Not sure if you just worded it like that or you actually think thats the rule. But you stand at second, leaning towards third and as soon as the ball makes contact with the defender you make your break forward or backward depending on catch or not. There's no excusing getting doubled off to end the game when you're the tying run. No matter what you say.
