I applied to Skidmore also, BUT, it was definitely lower on my list then my New England schools were (Boston & Amherst were more interesting places to me than Saratoga Springs was) since I wanted to be at a New England college specifically. As for other upstate NY colleges I applied to, Bard & Sarah Lawrence were MUCH HIGHER up on my list than Skidmore was because they were more "alternative" in their educational approach, structure and philosophy. Skidmore seemed to be a great college, but it just wasn't the right "fit" for me. I truly believe that every college student has the "right fit" college for them.
I wasn't that sure if I should apply for Skidmore this year, but your video really helped! Especially bc you talked about international students and we are normally left out :( thanks!
i got in a few days ago, its definitely one of my top schools, but hearing your perspective definitely helped! can i ask, what was ur favorite memory at skidmore?
congratulations!!! That's so exciting. I don't have one particular memory that sticks out to me but once it gets nice in March, April, and May, the days are so fun. After class grabbing coffee with friends, doing work on blankets outside, playing chill music, going to the lake on the weekends. it honestly feels like a different campus!
Visited Skidmore today with my daughter who graduates HS this year. We’re from Virginia. She likes the school. I’m curious about the Fin Aid and how inclusive the culture is. Thanks for your video.
Hi James. Glad to hear you made it up to Saratoga. My guidance counselor in HS told me not to apply to Skidmore because they don't give a lot of financial aid, but it turned out that they gave me the most compared to all the others schools. I think it depends on the student, but for the most part, it's pretty good. As for the culture, I'd say the school is inclusive and provides a lot of opportunities to get involved. In general, students are friendly and creative, and there are many well-rounded individuals.
Thanks for sharing an in depth perspective. My one suggestion is to not cut up your video so much. I literally had to turn my phone over and only listen, because all the cuts were messing with my eyes/ brain.
Loved the video, very insightful!! I just have some questions: Is the environment more collaborative or more competitive? Do you feel that the small size affected your ability to have a variety of fields of study? Have you ever felt claustrophobic with the smaller student body and town size? Thank you!!
HI Catarina. Great questions! Skidmore is by far more collaborative compared to competitive. For such a small school, they offer more areas of study. For example, most small liberal arts schools don't provide business. As for your last question, the school does feel claustrophobic at times, but the positives of going to a small school made it worth it.
Hi! Thanks for making this video. You said you weren't an international student so you didn't have to submit the SAT scores. I'm an international student and I'm thinking of applying test optional. Do you recommend I take the SAT and submit my scores for a better chance of getting admitted? Thanks!
Hi Lia. My friend said she had to take the SAT to apply because she was international. I'm not sure this has changed. If it has, and it is test optional, def submit your scores if you did well because it adds another layer to benefit your application
@@roset22 What is a good score for Skidmore? I am an international student, so my english is not the best. I got 1410- 780 maths and 630 english. Given that I have a lot of activities that revolve around me being good at english. should I submit my SAT scores ?
@@mubashshirifrad1728 I tested poorly, so I didn't submit my scores and don't know how much they weighed SAT if you send them. That being said, they're going to look at you holistically. I think they will appreciate that you have involved yourself actives that allowed you to strengthen your English. Make sure that you emphasize that in your application.
I Am a low income international student Skidmore is my perfect choice but i heard they don't give good financial aid at all is that true? And if i want to know more details about financial aid there what should i do?
so most dorms do not have air conditioning because they are so old. The apartments for upperclassmen have ac but those spaces host mostly older students. wifi is okay but not sure about how it would be for gaming
Hi, I wanted to ask about the AQR requirement. My Math is very weak so I’ll be starting off with MA 100. Are the classes strenuous? Im extremely nervous regarding the academics, especially the AQR courses like intro to microeconomics. Love the videos by the way!
Thanks so much! I really think it's about the professor you have. I had really good professors and they made everything make sense so it wasn't too bad at all.
congrats! that's so exciting. I actually was in the same shoes as you because I applied to the program and couldn't decide if I wanted to go. My honest opinion is if you make friends easily, go to London. Everyone I asked who went to Skid told me don't do it. It can be hard to feel part of the social life at Skidmore when you return but if you are super outgoing and its easy to make new friends I would totally recommend it. hope that helps.
I will be applying for skidmore it really is an excellent option, I would like to know how many essay colleges will I need to apply because I was looking and I did not find anything.
Hiii! so many people from skid went to boarding school. I went to one called High Mowing. It's a super small school so not a lot of people have heard of it.
Are there any parties on campus? I know it's a bar school but when I enter college I'll be 17 and I won't be allowed in most bars. What fun activities can minors do? Also can major and minor at skidmore?
Hi Shay! It will be harder being younger but you can still make it work. I'd say it really depends on what your friends like to do because sometimes people will host friends in their dorms or apartments.
That's a really good question. The ratio did really play into dating and relationships. There were relationships on campus but from what I noticed, if you wanted to date a lot of people looked to meet people from other schools nearby or back home.
I actually got my acceptance last night, this video really helped me with making my decision!
CONGRATS!!!! that's so amazing! no problem anytime
Outstanding college. I loved the campus and the students were all very kind. It’s beautiful there. Not one bad thing to say about it.
Best college video I've seen by far- thank you for being so well researched, this really helps!
Thank you! That means a lot to hear
thnx glad it could help

When I was getting my master's degree in history at SUNY Albany, I would often visit the Skidmore's library for research. Great campus.

they require the common app essay but everything else should be optional

go to? Skidmore or London Progarm?

oh yesss. people are nice but with schools this small, it does feel cliquey
I just submitted my ED today to Skidmore!

Yeah they have a gym available to everyone, even non-athletes
Is hook ups more easy for men since there more girls there?
Since the ratio when I went was more the 60% female, 40% male, it felt like it was easier for men
Even though there is a larger female ration did you still find that people got into relationships often? Or was it all just hookups?
That's a really good question. The ratio did really play into dating and relationships. There were relationships on campus but from what I noticed, if you wanted to date a lot of people looked to meet people from other schools nearby or back home.
Tremendous school ,
Party scene sucks :/
oh what party scene? didn't know we had one
Exactly the sort of college that you end up a degree, and everyone knows that any graduate will be insufferable and difficult to work with.
