Keep in mind the historical context and place of your town. European villages have another way founding than American towns. The latter which is more buildt around railway. European towns are more build around landscapical landmarks/lakes/rivers/green fertilised areas. Secondly, try to integrate your town with the environment. Towns are not just islands of asphalt in nature, but are usually always accompanied by fields. Sometimes they do not but you can play with the surrounding nature to make it look more connected to the town. What's also interesting is that you can make a cluster of towns with fields and nature in between. I like your video and for the second one you made, it was very good.
Also don't try to always build next to highways. Use more rural roads like the 1 lane (bothway) highway and don't be afraid to follow the terrain. Hills don't need to be flattened out alot. Especially in European towns.
One design tip I'd mention is think of the purpose of the small town: Is it historical? If so, why was the town originally established? Is it new? Questions like these should influence how someone designs the road layout, orientation, etc of the city!

I'm not saying it is, but my wife says it sounds like an AI voice. I'm deaf, so it doesn't affect me, but she said it was very "turn offish" how much it sounded like a robot speaking. Looks pretty good though. Cheers.

Seriously, great small town tips! Do you have plans/tips on how to keep a small town small, specifically with regard to low income residential demand? The way they chose to implement this game mechanic is very baffling to me. As far as I know, the only options are row housing and high rise apartments. You would be hard pressed to find such urban looking structures in a rural, small town setting. IMHO, the look of those assets absolutely kill the rural vibe.
Thanks I appreciate it! Most of the builds I have done so far have consisted of a mix of rural areas, small town or medium town areas, and then a dense urban core. When I have done that mixed approach I have been able to maintain my rural and small towns. Not on this map, but in a future one I will try to do something entirely rural. ☺️
