    The White Nights is very beautiful! I did not expect that.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +7

      it is! very underrated too. beginners tend to just buy quin rose and white night's quin rose is PR122. and non-beginners usually bypass white nights completely. definitely one of my faves

      @@PaintinHiding White Night 24 pans set is my 1st ever watercolour paint set so the brand forever has a special place in my heart. Too bad how the watercolour online community usually places White Night together with other student grade paints. Plus you just can't beat that pricing.

    If price is considered White Nights would be the best, it literally costs a fraction of Daniel Smith's (1/10) yet performs extremely good

    Windsor and newton’s permanent rose is one of my favorite colors… Definitely my favorite PV 19 :-) it’s so pink, and I really like that! If I want magenta, I go for PR 122. based on your comparisons, I really like the cherry red color of Daniel Smith’s Quinn red and white nights!

    Wow I opened this video then never watched it... thanks so much for the links to Denise's video, I had definitely never seen that one! Wow, the Rembrandt/VG Quin Rose is super cool, going towards quin violet. The VG doesn't look like it goes as deep in value as the Rembandt. I have read that quin pigments are rather low tinting, and for them to be really strong requires a LOT of pigment. This is why they are more expensive than phthalos. I know PR 207 and PR 209 are quite weak and you can only get them so strong in any brand.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      im glad! that screenshot from denise’s vid is one i visit often from time to time. ohhh is quin not as strong as phthalos? that’s news to me! that would really make sense why my rembrandt PR207 is rather lowtinting for what it is.

    If you love the warmer/hotter/brighter reds, I highly recommend looking at colors that are named “vermillion.” Vermillion leans more toward “orangey” hues, but the best ones will give you dazzling, vivid, warm reds.

      so sorry Nancy! i didn't get a notif for your comment :( oh yesss, i like sennelier's vermilion and also white night's geranium. both PR242 if i remember correctly

    Thank you so much for doing these!! You are a delight and your passion for painting shines through! While shopping in an art store an artist had told me that W&N Permanent Rose is the best for her botanical style of painting and for portraits. I asked her if she strictly used W&N, she said no she has multiple brands of professional paints but for PV19 she has found this to be the best for her. I have yet to do some comparisons to see if I can detect the nuances she described. Do you happen to have a PO box that you receive gifts from? I would like to send you a sample of the Permanent Rose and a few other colours! :D Thanks again for sharing your skill, knowledge and passion! xoxo

    Thanks so much for this comparison, it was perfect timing for me. I have quite a few PV19s but just bought a tube of Daniel Smith’s Quin Rose, as so many people like it so much. I haven’t been able to swatch it against my other paints yet, but from your swatches I think I will be very happy with it! It’s cool enough to be different from my favourite borderline red like Transparent Red Deep by Schmincke, but still warmer than a PR122 Magenta.

    Van Gogh Permanent Red Violet is actually a Magenta and not a Quinacridone Rose. I use both this and V.G Q. Rose in my paintings and interchangeably with Rembrandt Q. Rose and Permanent Rose Magenta that is a PR122 depending of course what I want to mix. The V.G Perm. Red Violet is better for mixing. It gives a great Indigo hue when is mixed in equal parts with PG7 Phthalo Green. And it gives also fantastic deep and lightfast purples and mauves when it is mixed with any blue colour.
    From all the Q. Roses PV19 though that I have ever used ( including the W.N one and the White Nights one) the Van Gogh one is my favourite because it is more Rose both in full mass applications and its tints.

    Yey, one of my favorite color and probably my pickiest one in my palette. I use rembrandt one and its definitely very similar to PR122, not my favorite color wise but the paint preform alright i just don’t prefer the bluer version of pv19. i probably switch to either mission gold, holbein or winsor newton my rembrandt tube dried up which is sad since i think i still have at least a small pan worth of paint. Curious about holbein one since they called their quin rose quin red but the swatches online seems very pink and not a warm quin red like daniel smith or white nights. The texture you’re seeing on the paper probably because the place you store the paper is rather damp, humidity is pretty bad for the sizing in your paper

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      glad you agree that rembrandt's quin rose is very similar to PR122. ohh, just cut your dried tube open! yeah, i haven't tried holbein's either but it does look rather pink than red. hope u like whichever you decide to go with! :D

    Same molecule with allotropy in crystal structure (different crystal, not molecule) are separated with creek-alphapets. the symbol you have above "gamma" is called alpha. so there is at least 3 different crystal structure in quinacridone crystal family: alpha, beta and gamma crystals.

    A few months ago, I purchased a pinks & violet Van Gogh 12 color set from Amazon at a very reasonable price. I love ❤ it!I paid $24.85…now it’s gone up to $33.00. 😠 Jackson’s in the UK, who can ship to the U.S., prices their Rembrandt wc at very reasonable prices and they can often ship to the U.S. cheaper than what it costs U.S. buyers to get products shipped from within the U.S., 😡which really bothers me (if you select their economy shipping). Oddly enough, as my faulty memory recalls, Jackson’s either doesn’t have much Van Gogh or it’s higher than Amazon? I know Jackson’s cannot ship W&N to the U.S., due to some sort of trade agreement.

    Such perfect timing as I'm currently on a market for a PV19 watercolour. Please do a Quin Gold hue comparison in the future. BTW I bought two pans of White Night's Indian Gold upon your recommendation and have been loving it. The hue is super closed to Jackson's version, which I still have some left, but a tad brighter whilst Jackson is only a tiny bit earthier. Both mix beautiful greens and glowy orange. I might enjoy White Night version even more than Jackson's. Thank you so much for these videos. And btw can I message you directly?

      @@PaintinHiding unlike their blues and greens which are dry to the touch, White Night's Indian Gold pan is on the stickier side. But still a lot better than my Jackson's quin gold tube, which has heavy seperation and quite gummy. And imo Jackson is another brand we should opt for pan instead of tube. The paint never sets in my palette and runs everywhere 💆‍♀️.

    I am not happy seeing a recommendation for Russian made White Knights products at this time of war by Russia against civilians and military targets in Ukraine. Rosa, the Ukrainian paint company might be a more ethical source of similarly made watercolours.
    Suppliers in the are ceasing sourcing White Knights because importing their products is currently a breach of the trade embargo from most UN countries.
    In the UK, Winsor and Newton paint is much cheaper, and Daniel Smith far more expensive. WN Permanent Rose is often quoted as a primary colour for a limited palette. It is closer to CMYK colours when you paint a convincing colourwheel. WN Permanent Rose gets my vote. I use it from an artist tube, but will be switching to a pan for plein air convenience.
