- Sahadi’s, a 122-year-old market, serves fresh Middle Eastern cuisine and other specialties in Brooklyn. People seek it out for hummus, dried fruit, and freshly roasted nuts. The Sahadis rely on family living in the Middle East to source many of the local Syrian products that are shipped by boat and sold in the store today. They work to source these ingredients despite political turmoil in the region. Insider’s Taryn Varricchio visited Sahadi’s to see what makes this market a New Yorker’s choice for the best Middle Eastern products in the city.

Sahadi's Is NYC's Favorite Middle Eastern Market | Legendary Eats
"Theres a Trader Joes across the street, so why is everyone coming to Sahadis?"
Thats like asking why people would rather go to a great local coffee shop than the Starbucks right next door. The product is better and its good to support local businesses, like I like to do 😀
It was a rhetorical question.
Small businesses aren't always better. Capitalism supports good business not small business.
@@danielhan8995 really? Capitalism just supports the biggest businesses.
@@danielhan8995 you need to learn more about capitalism, it only favors business strong enough to compete and big business can easily beat small shops.

I love markets like this. They tend to sell higher-quality food.
This was a random vid for me, but I soooo agree...One that was near me closed, I have to search for another store...😖Go figure they've been open since 1898...I've fully indulged into a wide variety of cultural spices, haven't looked back!..I'm frm a small city/town...
Yes i agree. Thats why I like to vlog these kind of places in LA. They have better foods and better stories to share.
You learn so many things, besides the average foods/ spices in the regular grocery stores...You realize that your very experienced cook, chef use so many spices & foods from many different cultures...Makes food so exciting when you learn how interchange & use them together!..Endless possibilities!..
Part of my overwhelming enthusiasm toward these markets is the FREE exposure to other cuisines, cultures, and people.

if you are willing to experience, befriend a local person from the Levant, and tell them (oh I heard your food is the second best in the region).
be ready for many MANY home cooked meals to prove to you that (insert person's country) has the *BEST* food lol
make sure you do give back so that you don't feel like a con-artist, and it would be morally fine.... you can tell the person with the whole trick after you experience the entire cuiine if you still feel guilty about it.
I lived in Brooklyn for years and Sahadi’s was my go to grocery store. For pita, I still went down the street to Damascus bakery. But, Sahadi’s has so much amazing foods. The feta cheese! Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, French, ...and a few others. The pickles and olives!
Damascus is my go to for baked goods and dips. Sahadi’s is everything else.
The last time I was there I bought a 4oz container of their hummus
It still haunts me to this day that I didn't opt for the 16
how long would it last tho?
if it's fresh it means it doe not have preservatives.
I live right near there, and I love Sahadi's. So happy to see it get the acclaim it deserves.
🇱🇧 Lebanon & Syrian 🇸🇾 dishes yummmm
And Palestinian 🇵🇸 Practically we all share food of the Levant, since we're all neighbors.
Market shopping is always fun! It seems to be a pleasure to buy new food! 😍
I love when cultures share food together. I'm Dominican and kebbah and other dishes were brought to the Dominican Republic in the late 19th century by middle eastern immigrants. We pronounce it key-peh and spell it quipe or kipe. Its one of my favorite fried food!
Interesting information! Thank you for sharing
Kebbeh is a national dish in Lebanon and each city in Lebanon have their take on Kebbeh...stuffed meat, walnuts and sheep fat, sometimes grilled, fried or baked!!!

Ron looks like a super model lol
When she said “kibi” I freaked out
🤣
Jejeje me too
Right!! How did kebbeh become “kibi”?
I know, I was like nodding my head along and then out of nowhere -- **record scratch** KIBI?! say wha?? 😧 😒
Bruhh me too😂😂😂
All nuts are so delicious want to try this now ❤️
Don't know why i torture myself by watching these videos
because you are dumb 😂
Lol your profile picture 😂😂
because your spirit knows that middle eastern food is the best, and is telling you to switch sides :P
How did I only just find this vid? I live four blocks away and go here every week. This place is an absolute gem.
What a great story and what a fabulous looking place!
I wish I could cross over thru the screen!..The one near me closed😖
Okay im hungry now
This is one of my favorite places to shop! My Mom has been taking me there to get Cashews and peanuts since I was a kid. The Bulk Section will leave you broke.
Sooo try...I luv bulk sections!..
I used to go there almost every weekend when I was a little kid as I can I will go there again
Chic peas is super food, try including that to your diet and see the difference with added sesame!
Looks delicious.
Good authentic foods made frm scratch...How can you go wrong!..Healthy!..
I literally can smell the store and taste the hummus
This is legendary food!
Nice
Who like village life and street food
❤ Grandma's Village ❤
Great, 👍👍👍👍👍😊😊
Ma Sha ALLAH, awesome store👍
I love pistachios! Especially the cream pistachios 😍😋. Have you ever tried it?
The only, real pistachio ice cream is the one that comes from Italy. The one I found in NYC contains 20% of Pistachio di Bronte. Most of the other stuff is faked with green dye. I have seen an American made "Pistachio ice cream" that doesn't even list pistachios among its ingredients!!!
“Kebi” nice.
Cool!
I was watching this video with my aunt in the same room and as soon as the host said anything about Trader Joe's in the same sentence as hummus we both flinched 😂
Going there tomorrow 😅
Proud to be born in the beautiful country of Lebanon 🇱🇧❤️
Wow
Omg I live next door!!!

Do they have cloth bags or can you use your own containers?
Bro that looks good right about now (first btw)
4 generations! 🙀
I get the feeling that this place would be overrun by hipsters.
It actually isn’t. The place is authentic and reasonably priced as ever.
That Hummus does look good! Trader Joe's across the street.. Pfft I say!
I watched a delicious video
Host got healthy 😀
Pls add like an ice cream van that goes around the neighbor hood🙏🙏 but its the resteraunt that moves😎

The storeowners moved via the bridge to a new location have a century later!
Kibi .. 😆 it should sound like kib'uh
why can't they farm some ingredients locally?
I mean, sure, some ingredients needs special enviroment, but many more can be farmed just fine anywhere.
Why add water in the form of ice? What does it do chemically? Very interesting
Wittski Whiskey doesn’t do anything chemically. The hummus is blended and using ice instead of water keeps it colder and slightly thicker so when it’s refrigerated it doesn’t freeze. Using water can change the hummus’s texture. Keeping everything cold just makes for better hummus
@@primadonnainterrupted got it. Thanks. :)
makes it last longer refrigerated.
since they are making large batches to sell and not for on the spot use.
I spotted that too...
Mary Ann Jan I also believe that as the ice gets pureed, the small shards act like tiny serrated knives - overall creating a smoother, creamier texture
LEBANONNN!!!
vlog my life they’re Syrian
Lebanese is a new invention. The first Arab migrants in the states were called Syrians, even if they came from Mount Lebanon as it was a province of Ottoman Syria at that time.
And now m hungry again 🤷
51 jerks I see.... they can’t appreciate a little history/culture lesson 🙄 ...: anyways love it there.... I try to visit anytime Im in BKLYN

Its called (kebbah)
It's actually the way Lebanese and syrians pronounce it. Kebbe.

Yes
So where is the best most authentic middle food you can find ?
Middle east is the core of civilisation, not like they say in the news. They only steal our oil and send us to Europe after they stole everything and destroy everything. And then say go back to your country after destroying and robbing everything. Vicious fourth tongue white man..
