    Roland's new FA series completely reimagines the music workstation, streamlining it for effortless real-time power, ultra-fast workflow, and maximum versatility. Ready to support any type of music you play, the FA-08 features an 88-note weighted-action keyboard and comes packed with a massive sound collection inherited from the flagship INTEGRA-7, a ton of studio-quality effects, and expressive real-time controls, plus onboard sampling with zero load time for instant audio playback from the 16 backlit pads. The sequencer offers simple operation and non-stop loop recording, letting you capture songs and ideas as they come and export them as multitrack data to use with your DAW. Flowing seamlessly into every part of your creative world, the FA-08 morphs instantly from a standalone keyboard to become the command center of your computer music studio, with USB audio/MIDI interfacing, powerful real-time controllers, DAW transport controls, and much more.
    Music workstations play an important role for keyboardists in a wide range of creative activities, from live performance to song development to production in the studio. However, they can often be complicated and difficult to use to their full potential, bogging down the creative process and inhibiting the flow of ideas. In developing the FA series, Roland has completely reimagined the music workstation to provide musicians an inspiring platform that's extremely powerful and versatile, yet simple and intuitive at the same time. With a streamlined interface and focused, practical features that maximize your creative flow, the FA series allows you to experience newfound freedom to deeply explore and develop your musical ideas with less effort than ever before.

    I was at Guitar Center and I found a JUNO-DS88, and decided to play some music on it, and when I went home, I immediately looked up (without knowing the name) "Roland 88 key keyboard," and stumbled upon this one, and from what I've seen, it's essentially the same thing, just with more sample pads, and OH MAN I want this so bad now.

    One thing I wish, is that someone would make a board with potentiometers rather than knobs. Reason being, I'm delighted to see this board won't cut out when changing sounds on the fly and when editing the sound. The stepping isn't at all noticeable, UNLESS the knobs aren't centered each time (which they rarely will be). Pots, with no center marks and the ability to be continuously turned in either direction could the be used to never have to start from a centered position. Bidirectional communication would be needed, but easy enough for Roland, Yamaha or Korg, I'm sure. The additional use of the potentiometer style knob would be to use each knobs center button to center if the person so desired. That wouldn't even be needed in the case of the FA series though because they have the very helpful graphical representation of where it is already right there on screen. It may sound like a lot of effort for what some will think is a very minor issue, but if you played live you already know it's far from minor. Other than that, the only complaint would be it's power supply.
    One question that I've been looking for an answer to. Will the Roland RPU-3 Pedal work completely as it was meant to work with the 08? I know it will work as a sustain pedal and that I could use the other two for other things, but I'm hopeful it has at least the left/soft pedal support also with half dampering.
    Great video. Awesome playing and very thorough.!

    Great keyboard but..hard to control velocity, and no back lighting to see surface menus. That said, great functionality, especially as a sequencer. The one touch chord feature is huge for us non trained musicians, although I am learning piano. For a songwriter like me, this tool is indispensable.

    How the keybad feels ? I love the Roland A90 keyboard piano feel, I found it perfect, it´s a PA-4 hammer action. I bought an Yamaha P140 and it´s very stiff, I feel pain in my arms when I play on yamaha, and I feel lazy to play some chords, because it´s so painful that the artist prefer to play simple things. I need a piano action that is not heavy, but not too light. How the FA-08 feels ? Unfortunately, I haven´t roland pianos available at my city, so I have to trust on other reviews.

      A little late, but I've found that the Expressionable function on the D-Beam (top left) is really useful to play dynamically. It doesn't work with anything you need two hands for; so you could instead try using a volume pedal.
      I also bet there is a setting in the "menu" for velocity sensitivity.

    Is it worth buying in 2017? What about Korg Kross/krome, Yamaha Moxf8? I see everyone using keys only as a hardware nowadays and getting sounds in software using DAW's and Spectrasonic Keyscape or Komplete.

    • @kingdomminded87
      @kingdomminded87 7 лет назад +1

      Manoel Bueno Yes it is worth it!!! I bought this keyboard 4 months ago. And let me tell you, keyboards sound totally different through a computer screen as oppose to playing it in real time. This keyboard is mind blowing!! When I layer a Grand piano and a pad together it brought me to tears!!! It sounds so real. And plus I downloaded some more Grand pianos and E pianos from the Roland website, and they sound almost better than the factory sounds. Now the MOXF8 is a good choice too. I was actually torn between these two boards for that matter. Which one sounds better? It comes down to preference! But when it comes to features, the FA08 has the upper hand. Do not get the Korg Krome, not that it doesn't sound good because it does. But it's too technical. It takes you forever to layer one sound together. Your choice should be between the FA08 and the MOXF8. You can't go wrong with either one. It depends on what you are looking for in a keyboard that will help you make a decision of which one is better to you. SALUTE MAN!!!

    Скажите, пожалуйста, можно ли изменить частоту ударов сэмлов барабанов в загруженных банках этого синтезатора? Например, Bank 2, pad 16, мне необходимо изменить темп на более медленный, - имеется ли возможность это сделать?

    Здравствуйте! Я приобрёл FA 08 три года назад. Вы не подскажете почему через некоторое время, около года использования использования этого синтезатора (DAW), неожиданно вдруг пропал сигнал из выхода SUB OUTPUT? Как его можно восстановить? ( то есть при подключении наушников в этот разъем звука нет вообще, и при подаче на любой электронный девайс тишина).. Я уже делал возврат к заводским настройкам, но это не помогло..

    • @HighlandStudio91
      @HighlandStudio91 9 лет назад +2

      Roland D-20; 32 voices,128 presets,8 effects and it sounds like ass(even worse actually,as it sounds like the Korg M1.)
      Yeah....that's cool dude....but a Casio WK-7600 is way cooler than the D20...no seriously,the Casio really is cooler.

    • @PeteKowalsky
      @PeteKowalsky 9 лет назад

      +Philo Beddoe LOL man I have a D-20 too and I would LOVE it to sound as good as an M1!! Yes, it does sound terrible. For the price back in the day, it did more than a D-50 for less money, but didn't sound as good as a D-50 either... ;)

    • @HighlandStudio91
      @HighlandStudio91 9 лет назад

      +Pete Kowalsky I was so ecstatic to sell my M1,that I was much happier selling it,than when I had purchased it.I somewhat regret selling my Korg Triton EX...but with all of today's improvements and options,it's all water under the bridge...gratefully forgotten(for the most part.)
      In fact..the new Casio Privia PX-560 is Casio's flagship synth workstation and in my opinion...it is hands down,the very best synth out there today,for the money(for it's price point.)
      I mean..it actually smokes the competition and puts Korg,Yamaha,Roland & Kurzweil to shame and does it for less(cheaper than anyone else.)
      Sad...isn't it?How excruciatingly greedy these large companies are(Casio being the shining exemption,of course.)

    Still confused as to how you quickly change sounds. The Pads apparently cannot do this. Every time I saw you change sounds oyu had to use the scroll wheel. Why couldn't those Pads do that?

    • @fullcompass
      @fullcompass  10 лет назад +3

      The pads simply trigger a MIDI message. Most of the time you want them to be notes, probably drums. With some deeper editing they could change presets, turn on and off effects or even control external things like lighting if you had the proper gear and knowledge. But their main function is drum pads so that’s what you see most often. Most people will program their own sounds, save them in the user memory bank and just go forward and back between a few of them instead of scrolling through hundreds.

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 10 лет назад

      ***** Thank you for your informed reply. My point is that could the Pads not do both functions? I see their value in creating sounds; but I also have trepidations about a stage performance where I would also want to change the sounds played by the keyboard more quickly than with the wheel. Is it possible that some other button could be programmed to toggle the Pads between Preset Sounds to play from the keyboard and using them to play sounds?

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 10 лет назад +4

      tkarlmann I got the answer from Roland -- use the keys below the screen for presets! There are 10 banks of 10 sounds each. I didn't see that.

      souljazz58 you can change the sounds without interruption due to Tone Remain. Simply create a studio set, go to pad utility and from there you enable it to use the pads to switch the sounds.
