Really thorough and great review--I just purchased the Lamy Accent (briarwood + 14k medium nib) and I'm really in love with the design. The wood grip, glossy piano black finish, and the two-tone nib make it more visually compelling to me compared to the 2000. I do love the uniformity of the 2000's design but it always felt cold and sterile to me, which is the exact opposite of what I feel when using a fountain pen. Also, I really never cared for piston filling systems. Thanks again for the great review; I've been using a Waterman Hemisphere for years and finally have a gold nib :D
Thanks for the great video! However, I realised that the audio output is limited to the left channel. You might want to check on your equipment and find out what's the issue for this uneven audio output.
Hi Calvin, thank you for the comment. I realized too late that I had the safety channel running on my mic which records one channel at -20db. I could have fixed this in post but I was reviewing with my monitor's speakers. I am new to video and audio so I am making mistakes. In the future I know to check that setting and review with headphones.
Good review, I was thinking about adding another premium Lamy model to my lineup and I think I'll probably go with the accent, as I love wood elements in design. I was wondering how convenient and streamlined you feel the capping is with it being a screw cap.
I was extremely exited finding the Lamy accent here!! I got it as a present in 2000/2001 in "brushed metal"(Lamy says now "palladium finish"?) , so silver, with a beautiful matt blue grip. It came with an MK-nib, which apparently is a nib with a "little ball" (K=Kugel) and discontinued. For me the M was way too thick/big and I remember that I didn't use the pen often and was sad that it was so scratchy! Found it last week again, cleaned it properly with Rohrer&Klingner and I hope it performs now better on Rhodia paper 😉 I will definitely change the nib, either a Fine or calligraphy. Thanks again for reviewing this niche pen 👍 Did you try to change the nib- just asking if it's as easy as with the Al-Star I have ....
@@BlakesBroadcast thank you for the info! Despite cleaning it properly and trying different things, I can't get the Accent to write 😕 So I ordered a Z53 nib. They claim on the German website that it's "very close to a golden nib", so that sounds interesting! Hope that the accent will actually write again 😅
Why is it impossible to get the grips from USA retailers? The Lamy store in New York had a few but that was the only place I could find them without spending a huge price for shipping from Europe.
The pen is quite well presented. I have a Dialog 3 with a similar nib and it’s a feather. It’s the gold standard, if you will. Lamy makes the modeling knife of pens. Pure tools. New sub.
Hi James, thank you so much for the sub! I appreciate the design of Lamy pens, they stand alone with their minimalistic and sober designs. I have the Dialog 3 in white and I absolutely love it.
Thank you for thee review. I might end up braking my budget to get that wide, comfortable grip. It really does look appealing to me. (I’m the guy with the hand injury…) As long as we are talking about “accents”, you might enjoy watching a few other Lamy reviews to see how most people say “Lamy.” :-)
Hi Dwight, it's a great pen. I would take a look at the Lamy Nexx M which has a thick rubberized grip. I've heard people with arthritis say that they like that pen. I do get comments about the way I say "Lamy" a lot haha. Too much emphasis on the "y" but when I listen to other people say it including the Germans at Lamy I don't really hear enough of a difference.
Which video are you referring to? The only orange inks I use regularly are Iroshizuku Yu-yake (a lighter orange) and Diamine Ancient Copper which is much darker.
Personally the design isn't for me but I keep wondering why Lamy hasn't yet added this 'grip swapping' idea to their safari/AL-Star models, it would be a great option for people who despise the tripod grip but like the deaign of the pen an would prefer a standard round section instead. Edit: I found the video very informative and overall a pretty great review. Some advice I'd give is not to put pressure on their gold and steel nibs simply due to the way the nib was designed it isn't going to open up and will more likely starve the feed or even spring the nib before you can get any decent line variation. If you want some line variation check out their stub nibs, they work fairly well and give pretty good line variation without much effort.
Thank you for your comment! I appreciate the feedback. The Accent definitely has an unusual design. I think a round grip section option for the Safari is a good idea. I used to have a black Safari with a 1.1mm stub but I gave it away. I may need to buy a stub nib for my red Safari. I was surprised by how soft the gold Lamy nib was but you are right that the feed cannot handle anything more than a light pressure on the nib.
Personally I wont recommend anybody to buy this pen in India. The pen looks aesthetically good but it has a persistent problem of drying up if kept in upright position, which other pen brands don't have. Secondly getting your pen serviced is a real problem if you are outside Delhi, India.

Congrats on getting an Accent and your first gold nib! The Accent is one of my favorite pens and it is very underrated.

Thank you for the comment Yoseph! I definitely find it easier to uncap than a normal threaded cap. It works quite well.

Thanks for the comment! Glad to hear from another Accent owner. Yes, the nib is super easy to change. It's exactly the same as on an Al-Star.

Great review. These are very under-rated pens.
Thank you for the comment! I agree that the Accent is underrated.
thanks for this review, it's a Lamy that doesn't get as much attention as others so thanks for your insights
Thank you for the comment Melissa! The Lamy Accent is one of my favorite Lamys and I think it is underrated.
Why is it impossible to get the grips from USA retailers? The Lamy store in New York had a few but that was the only place I could find them without spending a huge price for shipping from Europe.
Maybe we are just seeing more old stock from Europe? There are pens and versions of Lamy pens that never made it across the pond.

Thanks for a nice review. What is that orange ink that you used with an orange Safari? Thank you.

@@BlakesBroadcast That was from the ‘Lamy Accent Fountain Pen Review’. I guess the orange ink in this video was the Pilot one. Thank you.
I know looks are subjective, but this is one of the best looking pens i have seen
It might be my favorite Lamy pen. I have the aluminum bodied version too.

Try pulling lamy safari feed from the section without pliers...
The cheaper Lamy Accent 096 (brushed aluminium) with a briarwood grip is a nice combination... Especially with Lamys italic nibs. 😊
I have that exact combination on my desk right now! I love the 1.9mm Italic nib.
@@BlakesBroadcast 1.5 italic nib here. Time for another review?
I think I definitely prefer the lamy 2000 over this one!!!!!! Thanks for the review!!!!
They are very different pens. I have both and like both of them.
What blue ink are you using please? It looks fantastic.
The ink is Lamy Blue. I am using a Lamy Blue cartridge in the video but it comes in bottles as well.
@@BlakesBroadcast I’m surprised a standard ink is that good. Thank you.
Subbed. Nice review!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
It seems this pen can be filled with an eyedropper. Can you tell me if this is so? I am an eyedropper pen fan. Thank you for the comments.
Thank you for the comment. I don't think this would make a good eyedropper because of the way the nib unit and grip attach to the body.
Personally I wont recommend anybody to buy this pen in India. The pen looks aesthetically good but it has a persistent problem of drying up if kept in upright position, which other pen brands don't have. Secondly getting your pen serviced is a real problem if you are outside Delhi, India.
I haven't had any issues with my drying up in an upright position.
