I have it and use it easiely on rehearsals with 4x12 it is loud as hell at 70% loudness . Once accidentaly I put in on 100% on 1x12 and all the band disappeared.
Enjoyed the vid! How would one go about using it for clean sounds? I play in a country/rock covers band so there's lots of clean sounds required! Cheers
Thanks for this video! One thing to note is this tiny little thing would be even louder with a 4 Ohm cabinet. The specs state 100w at 8 ohms (like you're using in the video) and 190w at 4 ohms.
Great video! It's good, compact and very affordable. I use it in rehearsals and live and it's good both ways. In practice i turn off cab sim and go from strymon iridium to gpa-100 to a real guitar cab and gpa's 3 band eq helps a lot with accomodating to a different cab and space. In live situations i run my strymon in a way that left output goes direct to PA and on the right output i use a null cab and go to a real cab for stage monitoring.
@@thedddemon unfortunately I have yet to play live since buying this, I had all intention of using it live as it's loud enough and super tiny to not take up much room.
Hey, I can't seem to find any information about something. I was thinking to use the gpa-100 with a 1x12 cab 60w 8ohm speaker. But the specs say 100w 8ohm, so will that blow speakers below 100w? How does that work? I've been looking for hours 🫠 Thanks!
@@LeeMusic if you kept the volume low it would be okay... but I wouldn't recommend it, as you could easily blow your speaker if you dialed it up too much.
I've never used one, according to their specs I saw on their website, yes you can use this with the Mesa Cabclone! That would be very interesting for live!
The thing that I would worry about with these types isn't the volume it's the fact that they're class D. I'd be worried about it sounding brittle and harsh compared with a class A or class AB power amp.
That's understandable. It is super important to have confidence in your gear when you take it out gigging. Thing is that makes this so attractive, the quality punches way above what you are paying. If someone doesn't have the funds for the Duncan preamp, this is an amazing alternative.
@@cechichan Ahh i see now... They are very different beasts... And you are right, the price is very different... Personally, if I had the cash I would love to have one and muck around with it! And even test it live! The few videos I saw on them were awesome! Specially if they can get the VST plug ins working through them, that would be huge! I would love to have my NTS vst live in pedal format...
Dude, good video, but please could you turn the background music down when you're talking. I cant concentrate on what you're saying and i have a feeling others with autism might struggle.
@@magicchessreplays8203 I'm using a preamp style pedal in this video... but I don't know if using a straight distortion pedal would be weaker, or if a different preamp would push it to be louder... I may have to test this!
I'm not so convinced about this test. You didn't mention the speaker inside your cab, that can make a big difference, there are guitar speakers rated 96dB (1W at 1 meter distance) others 103dB (1W at 1 meter) to increase the level by 3dB you need to double the watts. Sound level get reduced by 6dB for every double of distance, but, judging by the video, the meter is 1 meter (maybe a little more) away from the cab. So 85dB is not really loud, moreover, comparing with the level measured when you speak (>50dB), the level coming from the cab should be much higher. I didn't understand if the meter on the phone is getting the sound from the inner mic or if is connected to the other mic on you left (you didn't say which mic that is and what it does). What is capturing your voice? the guitar sound should be much over that of your voice.
You have all right to not be convinced, this test I feel is hearsay at best. Here are the things I felt wrong with it: Firstly the mic on my body is only for talking, I edit out all other sounds when there is no talking in all my videos to get a clear capture sound with what ever equipment I'm using. I just used an app on my spare phone (this is the phone I use to normally film close up on equipment when filming RUclips), it is running off the phones microphone I presume which falls into question the best was to face the microphone to test. It is a free app, I'm not sure how detailed and accurate it is. For more transparency, I was using Harley Benton 2x12 Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. I wasn't sure the best way to approach this video (on a budget) when I thought about filming it, and in the end had to resolve to "please take my word on how loud it is" as with how I conducted it, this was the best and most honest conclusion. I'm still not sure on the best way to capture and show how loud this little beast of an amp can go. You are right to be concerned and not convinced of the method I used in this video. It was an idea that I tried on the fly, and needs work.
@@metalprognosis years ago I bought a phonometer, it was cheap, I needed when I was building the home studio, I believe that would have been more useful than the app on the phone. The wattage stated by the manufacturer (besides being often optimistic) refers to the undistorted sound, both for tubes and transistors, on a guitar tube amp we basically always want a certain amount of distortion, while we do no want it on a transistor amp (because it sounds cr@p) this is why a tube amp (of the same wattage) is much louder than a transistor one. A 100W tube amp will remove the tiles from your floor :) I'm thinking on buying the GPA-100 to use it with an amp profiler but I'm afraid (for bass guitar) it will not be loud enough, even at 4ohms.
@@metalprognosis that cheap and ready to go I don't think there are better options. Sadly Bass needs a lot watts so, to make an experiment I just bought the amp module of a stage speaker, way too powerfull than what I need :) but it was a good bargain. It is byamplified so I need to wire the woofer and the tweeter of my EBS Pro210 with separate wiring and keep the level low. With Transistor amps is actually better to have the amp producing more watts than what the speaker can handle taking care not to push it too hard.
