      @@PurpleObscuration not only that but the last A380 Fuselage has been constructed. There's still work to be done but it's just one more step to the end.
      And I personally wouldn't call it obsolete as they'll still fly for years to come.

    No matter how many times it has been explained to me, l still don't get how this amazing, huge and extremely heavy machines can fly.
    To me is a total miracle and mistery of aeronautics.

      antonov is cargo and title is passenger. so a380 is biggest passenger jet but not cargo. tbh it doesnt even have a cargo version

    I have nuff respect for pilots. That's not a easy job...it takes brains to fly that monster in the air under all different kinds of weather conditions and bring it back down.

    AIRBUS A380 ...I saw you DC-10 on the runway. HOWEVER, a new Sheriff is in town called the AIRBUS A380. That rotation lift and speed, I love it. That speed is Exhilarating. My 68th birthday wish is to take a flight on an AIRBUS A380. Thank you Captain.

      custom gamerz captain joe can fly it but will need some training bcuz captain joe used to fly the A320. Every airbus plane are virtually the Same except the a220.

    Best explanation of how planes get off the ground. So simple anyone can understand. I never understood what lifted the nose up, I thought it was just the speed. But the rotation info helped it all make sense. Thanks!

    You didn't mention the dimensions of the plane. About 70 years ago Hughe's Aircraft prop plane "The Spruce Goose" was flown it was made from birch wood. It is still be touted as the biggest in the world and it still exists. Below are the dimensions. Please let us know if Lufthansa's plane's Dimensions are so it can be compared.Length: 218 ft 8 in (66.65 m)Wingspan: 320 ft 11 in (97.54 m)Height: 79 ft 4 in (24.18 m)Fuselage height: 30 ft (9.1 m)Empty weight: 250,000 lb (113,399 kg)Loaded weight: 400,000 lb (180,000 kg)

      the a380 its, not the biggest plane in the world its the biggest "Airliner" or passenger plane, the biggest plane in the world is the Antonov An-225, the H-4 Hercules has a longer wingspan of 97m (longest wingspan in the world) but overall the AN-225 is bigger and longer

    The turbine blades of a jet engine are employed after -- not before -- the air is compressed and ignited. How can PBS do a documentary about a jet airplane and get something this basic about a jet engine this wrong?

      Dan, you're taking the narration too literally. He's referring to the compressor as the "turbine", which isn't entirely wrong. The whole contraption is a turbine, really. It's a "gas turbine" engine. Both the compressor section and the [rear] turbine section are very similar and work on the same principles. The front turbine (compressor) puts energy into the air coming in, and the rear turbine takes some of it out.

    V1 is the speed where it is no longer safe to reject the takeoff. You are committed to taking it airborne. Nothing to do with takeoff. The rotation call out is the speed in which tilt the nose up.
