  • Profile Of A General (2000): An exclusive profile of General Musharraf, a military leader who took control of Pakistan at the beginning of the millennium. This report explores the general's rise to power, the nuclearisation of Pakistan, the country's conflict in Kashmir, and the government's links to the Islamic Terrorist group Mujahadeen, led by Osama bin Laden.

    "The people were seeing darkness all around. We have now shown them light. We are seeing light." These are the words of Pakistan's new de-facto leader General Pervez Musharraf, a military leader who led a coup against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Now in prison, the former Prime Minister's family live in fear of what's to come: "He says that he's not vindictive - what is this? This is all his personal vendetta against Nawaz Sharif - nothing else."
    Musharraf has taken control at a fragile time in Pakistan's history. The previous administration were keen to bolster the country's nuclear credentials, and now nuclear-inspired statues line the cities. The country's army has also changed dramatically, with the force experiencing a sharp rise in Islamic fundamentalism. Now the army train for jihad - or holy war - against India, with the predominantly Muslim province of Kashmir still remaining a battelground between the two nations. Yet the growth of the Islamic Terrorist group Mujahadeen, which has links to Osama Bin Laden, remains the most alarming concern for the international community. The US are demanding that the group be banned, but they continue to raise money outside a prominent mosque, and Musharraf denies accusations that the group is bankrolled by the Pakistani government. A important report documenting pre 9/11 Pakistan and the growth of terrorist organisations within its borders.

    its so sad to look back. going though all the horrors of war and social turmoil, and nothing has changed at all.
    whatever we grew up with in the last 30 years, stays exactly the same for the average kid on the street: technical skill, education, culture, freedom, economy and a bleak future. The internet age didnt change a thing.
    the worst part is that i will probably find this comment in 30 years and everything will still be the same.

      @PANDITDADDY-kq9uf День назад

      It is not about being muslim, the largest muslim ethnolinguistic group in British India were bengalese still they were not classified as martial, very few recruits were held in Bengal region. It was more about the caste and the region from where you come. Like the British when they entered India, the first group of sepoys they recruited were Brahmins and rajputs from Bihar and awadh (central UP) because of their tall and comparatively muscular built, and by the time they conquered north western India, they started recruiting people from there, also because of the 1857 mutiny by Awadhi and Bihari sepoys, and it was never a religion based recruitment, jats rajputs gurjars Brahmins pathans all were recruited in heavy numbers whether they were hindu muslim or sikh.
      And muslims aren't a race, it's a religion.

It was through opening of borders banning terrorism and making LoC the actual border line.

Nawaz Sharif artificially propped up Rupee and didn't make economic reforms, for kickbacks they kept building power plants far beyond our demands - it wrecked our economy. Fuk that Democracy where Lahore suk up entire Punjab's budget for Showbazi and lord Zardari rapes Karachi and causes famine and aids in Sindh. This era was the best in the history of Pakistan in terms of socio-economic development and welfare of the state... economy was booming, and IMF debt put to O. Pakistan was listed in the N11 countries in the world. Pervez Musharraf thought for the best of Pakistan, but nation as the history proves let a good leader down. Now Pakistan is facing a totally different situation due to the incapable political system withe leaders like Imran, Nawaz, and Zardari, which are total flops and corrupt!
