    22:38 Hearing Jesse say that Canada needs to be organized (disciplined) defensively to not give too much away in how they approach attacking, and to hear him say it way back on April 1st - I can't say how happy I am to hear him recognize that. Easily, the biggest criticism I had with post-WC qualifying Herdman/Biello tactics was how irresponsible they were in allowing massive openings for their opponents - the Jamaica fiasco being a prime example, which was repeated against T&T - inexcusable. A defensively disciplined 4-2-3-1 that hits hard and fast on counter is precisely what I've been preaching for the past year. As a Canadian, I am so excited about Marsch being able to deploy his view of the game with our squad. Very optimistic. From one North American to another; welcome home, Jesse!

    34:40 So very happy to hear Jesse will take direct reponsibility for Canada's defensive line. That is easily where the biggest questions/concerns are with this squad, and therefore where the whole strategy can fall apart. Gonna be a tough task helping them hold it together against top tier opponents. Because of this, Eustaquio should sit in a 6. Maybe even two 6s with Piette as well against the likes of Argentina, and then push Kone up field into a 10 - or Johnston with Eustaquio in the midfield to get Johnston and Laryea on the pitch at the same time.
    But please Jesse, consider getting just a little more use out of Vitoria. No one else comes anywhere close to being as strong in defending set plays around the box. No one reads the game as well - preventing opponents from receiving and turning at midfield. No one is as good on attacking set plays in the opponents end. Put the speed of Bombito beside him and we get the best of both worlds - complementing skill sets that create a stronger whole. And then it buys you some time to find his successor in time for '26.

    Marsch is a good fit for Canada!

  • @69gvfb
    @69gvfb 21 день назад +3

    My concern with Jesse is his tactics. He is know to play a high-pree aggressive style which on one hand, fits with what Canada's profile is, yet on the other hand being over aggressive is exactly how Canada lost vs Croatia and Morocco. Had Canada played more conservatively the results may not have been so lopsided. So I am a bit concerned with his tactics.

    • @dresdenfalls
      @dresdenfalls 21 день назад +1

      Yes. Be concerned. Attractive football in possession, high risk high reward.

    • @j5toosmooth608
      @j5toosmooth608 21 день назад +4

      You have to remember that we (Canada) don’t have the ball players in the midfield and defence to play more possession based football, Jesse has to invest in the youth right now to change that by 2026

    The US - Canada rivalry angle is so overblown, especially at this particular time. We're all qualified for '26, pretty much guaranteed not to meet at Copa, and Marsch & GGG will both be on to other things before there are any real consequential matches between the two teams, unless you think Nations League or Gold Cup is a big deal.

    I think that Canada has the talent to reach the SF of the Copa America. However it’s probably too soon and thus asking too much. So success for Canada in 2024 will be to cause their Group A competitors some consternation. In 2025 it is to reach the finals of the Gold Cup. And in 2026, I think a R16 berth should be the target. My guess is that the USMNT probably doesn’t do much better than that themselves (although I think the US has a good shot at a QF berth in 2026).

    • @cre8ivjay
      @cre8ivjay 21 день назад

      I'm thinking the meaning is that it's not "just" about win/loss. Wins are important for many reasons, but so are other things like the growth of the sport, finding a good team, creating more structure, financing.... Some of this will fall to Jesse.

    • @dresdenfalls
      @dresdenfalls 21 день назад

      @@cre8ivjay wins are the bottomline (like the profit of a business). If a team does well, the things you listed in your reply have been done well.
      If they haven't been done well, those things collapse and the team racks up losses.
      Jesse talks the talk and pushes the blame elsewhere. wins and losses show what type of manager you can be. With more experience, Jesse will be great but to be already saying don't judge me on my record - load of bull.
