I know what you mean about having the knowledge of how to take care of the plants but not doing things properly. I’ve lost some nice succulents because for some unknown reason I decided that I had to use a certain pot which was too big, to transplant the plant at the wrong time of year. Stuff like that!

😪 So sad about Giant Panda...
U r so right though! I live in the SGV portion of Southern California & bought my first succulent 9 months ago. Oftentimes there were many lil clues, i just blew past that came back 2 bite me hard. Thankfully, none of my lil succs have suffered too horribly & continue 2 thrive nicely. They bring me such joy!
I've added moth orchids to my nursery which would have been impossible for me, had i not learned so much from my first luv, succulents. Gr8 presentations, tkx 🦋

It's so reassuring to hear both the success and failure stories from you. I've recently discovered the joys of being a plant mom (finally got enough courage to name my succulents after two months of not killing them), so thank you for sharing these, keep em coming! 😍

Thanks for sharing. I think this is a good example that one soil type is not good for all situations. Sometimes succulents do need that extra water. I have learned that the hard way myself. Things like panda and watch chain seem to need more water for me.

I'm glad as many of your cuttings survived as they did. Sometimes you can do something about it. Sometimes nature takes the matter out of your hands.
Last week's winter storm here in Texas decimated my plant collection. I lost upwards of 70% of the succulents and tropicals in my greenhouses when the power went off for well over 30 hours in temperatures ranging from 11°F to 24°F (I live just north of Houston). Of all the varieties of kalanchoe I had (between 10-15), only one small sprig of copper spoon appears to have survived. On the plus side, most of my hawarthia, gasteria, sedum, and various cacti came through unscathed while my aloe and agave suffered relatively minor damage (except for one or two plants). And to end on a more upbeat note, I now have a LOT of pots that need to be filled with brand new plants!

Much thank for this specific content. May RUclips succulent offerings dot tell where they are based, nor speak about when to behead, when to propagate. I have come to think not to try these processes near the end of the plant’s growing season. This seasonal / climate info is greatly helpful!

I lost my Black Knight to root rot and also the pot I had it in was glazed ceramic which held way too much moisture. By the time I discovered it, it was too far gone & had a mealybug infestation. Definitely learned from that experience. My first year growing succulents was a challenge for me and I’m still learning after 2 years. Our Perth summers are like yours and I do notice that some succulents do not like such intense heat, like echeverias. I had to do water therapy on my Morning Beauty. As challenging as it is, I love this hobby!

Great video, thank you! I have a Panda Plant, bought it in a small nursery pot last Fall and it's currently in a 4inch terracotta pot under grow lights for now until the weather warms up. So far, so good.
Can you please make a video on Cleistocactus colademononis aka the Monkey Tail Cactus. I'd be ever so grateful 😁 thank you!

Question and a great topic to cover on a video. What to do when we order succulent clippings fr an online source like amazon or ebay or any place that offers succulent clippings as an option for buying live plants. Its usually less expensive if u want to have a variety of succulents without breaking the bank.

Cuttings are a great way to get new succulents! You can plant them directly into soil and start watering them.
For more details on how to propagate succulents (including planting and caring for cuttings), check out our propagation course:
      succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-propcourse
You'll actually get a set of cuttings and leaves to work with when you enroll by Monday March 1 at 11PM PST.

I propagated a very ugly leaf from my tiny panda plant and did everything wrong (now that I am taking your propagation course) but lo and behold I have a little baby that is actually growing. It is doing super well under a grow light. It is in peat moss and I am wondering when I should transfer it to gritty mix......probably not for a long time but am wondering what you would say. I don’t know if you answer these. Thank you for your wealth of knowledge always.

Can you mix Bonsai Jack and coco coc together ? And what kind of mix %.

    • @Succulentsandsunshine
      @Succulentsandsunshine  Год назад

You can mix them together. The quantity of coir you add in really depends on your climate, the plants you're using, and the size of the pot.
Personally, I only add coir for succulents like Rhipsalis that need a lot of water. I also use it for propagation.
