As frustrating and unprofessional as it can be to watch Dan constantly interrupt panelists, he’s spot on when it comes to Alvarez. The fact that Stevie does not appear to actually realize Alvarez is second fiddle to the likes of Haaland, De Bruyne, Foden, etc is head scratching. The reason why Alvarez played so many minutes last season is because De Bruyne was out for more than half the season and Haaland was out for two months. He’s a very good player but Pep prefers other players over him as first choice locked in starters. It makes complete logical sense that Alvarez would be interested in leaving for a club where he’s the full time starter up top. How Stevie doesn’t comprehend that is mind boggling.

Haaland and KDB can't start all the games. City could play over 70 games next season. Lots of games to go around. Alvarez could be the man in the champions league and Haaland the man in the EPL. No one knows what Pep has planned. He always surprises.

Finding a team to be the "main figure" of is easy, finding a team that can Challenge or Win things whilst Alvarez still being the Main Man, which he actually hasn't proved yet at City, he's been very good, but nowhere near undroppable, is the difficult part. Firstly, at most Clubs he simply won't get to play more games because those Clubs simply don't play more than 54 games. Secondly, he's proven himself to be the same level of Goalscorer as Gabriel Jesus in the PL so far, and he definitely isn't the "Main Man" that Arsenal will have upfront if they go on to Win anything and that's exactly what Jesus thought he'd be.

He is, you havent watched him play as striker, he has world cup goals on his debut, he is a complete forward, he is better than every young forward and better than haaland in build up play, you only watch city where he was played out of his position most of the times, you need game time a no.9 to truly develop, he'll be a star in most top european clubs and yeah city is going down the drain sooner than later

I don't look at Alvarez and think, OMG, that guy is such an unbelievable player. Winning those trophies is just a consequence of playing in the best teams currently in world football, both for club and country. He's dispensable. If he wants to go, let him go. He won't be missed.

What is Dan on about, De Bruyne and Alvarez are in no way positionally comparable, ones existence doesn't limit the other's. Alvarez is either a wide forward or a number nine and De Bruyne is an attacking midfielder, in his final year of contract and will likely move on in 2025. What's the point in this discussion, other than Alvarez needs to up his game and Pep needs to replace Kevin De Bruyne?

  • @ThiliRocks

To help Stevie's argument, Alvarez could still start next to Haaland in a striker partnership in 4-1-3-2 system. We don't know yet. I get Dan's argument too.

He should probably stay at Man City for 1 more year and see what happens with Pep next year. Atletico is a "loser" mentality team and he won't win anything with Atletico. Even as a bench player, he's won so much with Man City, and at the end of the day, that's what really counts at the end of his career. Just look at Harry Kane. Now, if he was going to Real Madrid, that might be a different story worth exploring.

Firstly I cant see De Bruyne being fit for all 4 competitions this season. Secondly would Alvarez be so vocal if he was with the Man City camp right now? Third - How about getting in the team and giving the manager no option to drop you with 10/10 100% performances.
It seems the International double he has won has gone to his head. He is under contract so he needs to keep it private and put in a transfer request.

Alvarez thinks he's the next best thing since Luis Suarez.
Even as a Chelsea fan, i don't think Alvarez would be an undisputed first choice for us. We may be rubbish now but we still have a lot of quality players who a particular manager may have high opinion about. That's the norm in the top clubs.
Would he be undisputed starter for Arsenal? Nah. Jesus and Havertz offer something different.
He won't be undisputed starter ahead of Darwin Nunez.
