Currently, he is Chairman of the Board of the United States Aikido Federation and the Latin America Aikido Federation. He is the author of Aikido Complete and has made multiple aikido training tapes.
Yamada Sensei is well known for his clear and strong basic technique. He teaches seminars all over the world where thousands of students attend his classes.
Quote:
"We must keep the spirit of budo no matter how we practice."
Q: You were one of the earlier uchideshi at the Aikikai. What year did you start?
A: When I joined as an uchideshi only Tamura Sensei and Arikawa Sensei were there. Yasuo Kobayashi was still in college. He came to the dojo every day. I entered when I was 17. I am 53 now, so it must have been 1955.

I had the blessing of wrap his wrist to show a technique a long time ago and I still remember his KI from that moment.
YUREL
Beautiful, thanks for the video.
amazing old footage
this guy is a living legend! good thing we have real instructors with proven lineage; i studied from tama sensei (8th dan)who learned from sunagama himself an direct student from o-sensei. aikikai is still taught at the dojo, i find it more "true" to it's roots unlike "Ki" aikido!
Thank you for this video.
Inresantes reunion de videos sobre Yamada!!!
Gracias
Great lessons. I love Judo and Aikido. Peace!
Beautiful art!
Excellent video!
i see the young kanai sensei there too as uke, very good thank you for posting
Giving wings to tigers is generally frowned upon.
nice video I was thinking about getting back into martial arts this summer and study various styles aikido looks interesting
Yamada sensey THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH
Great video!5*
nice video. i liked the intro with the pictures and the history. i would possible change the lenght of the last demostration (i think its the org. 50's demo) to keep the viewers who are not aikidoka interested. i really liked the ending how you jumped back to present day footage
I study under Sensei Jim Wood (Godan 5th Dan) and my assistant instructor is Andrea Kraus (Sandan 3rd Dan). My Organization is called Dojin Aikikai and I believe it started out of Texas and is currently run by Sensei Ed Francis. I believe Suenaka shihan had a significant role in my organizations past. Anyways we train out in Riverside Ca. Your more than welcome to come join us sometime. We'd love to have you come out for a training session.
@AikikaiAikido I studied 2 year at NyAikikai and I can say, Yamada Sensei and Sugano sensei (RIP) are great, I don't know Fujita Sensei personally but I watched some videos of him, and I liked his style a lot.
The Japanese uke is Edward Hagihara; friend of Yamada Sensei and chief instructor of the Long Island Aikikai.
@Wolfsbane909 If you mean Tamami Nakashimada Sensei, she is currently 5th dan. Suganuma Sensei is 8th dan
I believe it is a variation of shomenuhci shiho nage allbeit a very unique version.
Yamada est le plus classe de tous les élèves de Ô’sensei
@bushido774 actually how early you wear the Hakama has more to do with your organization or instructor. In my dojo you allowed to start wearing one after you pass your first belt test which would be 6th kyu rank. Yes many of your more traditional Aikido schools only allow Shodan and higher ranks to wear them.
nice 5 stars!
Thanks my fellow Aikidoka. I will keep that in mind. If your interested we have a website just go ahead and google Aikido Riverside. We are the second link down I believe and our dojo is located at 1445 Spruce St Riverside Ca. Thank you for the invite, and if im ever in Scottsdale I will most certainly train with you guys even if im not allowed to wear my hakama. lol
i like the koto
true dat.
I've trained in your dojo many times, when I visit Scottsdale. Very nice dojo. Sensei Brooks is the toughest Sensei I've studied under, lol. He can be funny, but makes no bones about it when he doesn't like what he sees. I'm sure I'll visit again in the near future.
real life tekken gogogogo
@gunifigoo my bad. She is good though but i better shut up about that, the class is crowded enough as it is.
It's funny you ask that. I noticed that one too. I've practiced it a long time ago under Sensei Peter Bernath. That's not surprising considering he studied under Yamada. Don't recall the name though.
you say Yamada without sensei, i don't really think you practiced anything..........
good video . can you upload sensei steven segal video?
Terry Dobson
I noticed the American uke, obviously quite proficient at aikido and wearing the hakama. How could an Amercian get so high if Yamada didn't arrive in NY until the year this was made. Were there Americans studying in Japan with O'Sensei?
americans went to japan first and practiced with Osensei.... ppl liked it and senseis from japan went on a mission around the globe...
aikikaiaikido is this your sensei?
Aikido =mentira marcial
