Your date is wrong--- 1982 is the period in which he fought Bruce Finch and he would retire with torn eye lense. He would come back in 1984 and fight Kevin Howard who knocked Ray down and then he retired again until he took on Marvin Hagler in 1987.
Then he fought Don LaLonde in 1988 where is was knocked down again followed by a draw with Tommy Hearns and a win over a fat Roberto Duran. Then he fought next in 1991 and was floored and defeated by Terrible Terry Norris and finished his career in 1996 getting KO'ed by Macho Man.
