- This is a pretty cool level. In order to get everything here, you need to go a little back and forth. I know you don't have to keep that enemy to get back, but I thought so at the time.
A little embarrassing to lose both masks near the end there, but what the heck.

I love the way the Lab Assistants screamed when they were falling.
These games never get old. Im playing this now, not because I dont have more modern stuff or anything. Bug geez how twisted those old games could get to reach 100%

Those old games were really challenging, weren't they? Over the top of absurdity at times. I like how people nowdays claim Dark Souls is one of the most difficult games ever... I love the Souls saga to madness, but one of the most difficult MAINSTREAM games of these times is nothing compared to that wicked Megaman, Crash Bandicoot 1 & 2 (the third is still annoying at times but much gentler) or Super Mario Lost Levels. Or Resident Evil 1, which is sick if you play without guidance.
It's nice to catch back with classics. I often do it when Im a little tired of more sophisticated new gen ones.
I came to the conclusion that I will never play the n.sane trilogy again, simply because the original crash games can't be topped for me. The feel of the controls, the music and even the graphics which, I don't care what anyone says, still look great to this day.

Checked out this video to see how far ahead I'd have to go from the skull area, accidentally killed the enemy but I was able to slide jump around the raised platform :D. Thanks for the videos, they are a huge help.
The music in this level is my favourite in the whole game.

Thats not true if you slide jump and the top of the jump you do a spin it will take you up

3:32 you can jump without enemies, but its a bit hard, its the same trick you use to get red gem on snow go without go into secret warp room
Great vid, Im going through the game trying to get 100% as well (something I never did when I owned the game back in the day...now trying again after downloading the game on PS3's PSN). This took many frustrating tries, as either the scientist before the last box on the main part of the level would kill me or I would shank the enemy jump trying to get over the shrink ray trying to get to the Death Route. Only have the gems in Spaced Out, Totally Bear, and Totally Fly to go!
crash 2 cortex strikes back is the only thing i asked for xmas this year :)
but stupid freaking amazon is taking so long to deliver it, it probably won't be here in time for xmas, which sucks cuz i can't wait to play it!

4:12-4:15 Don't blame yourself there. It's almost impossible for anyone to pass that without losing a mask. I never get past there and keeps dying until the game gives me one mask and finally got pass that section. Seems like the hardest part in the game if not counting the Cold Hard Crash Level. But that's what make the game AWESOME! I love Crash Bandicoot!

i wouldve liked the crash bandicoot games if they had a little more of a challenge but im still in love with them.
im playing the game for the first time and im going for 100%. i did not have this enemy that you jumped on around 3:31 so i slide jumped around the blue thing since i didnt have enough height to clear it. it felt wrong so i had to check how this was intended but my way feels cooler lol
You keep leaving wumpa fruit behind and letting enemies live and it makes me feel uncomfortable 0_o

JustJay!! wumpa fruit is useless for veteran players and is nothing but an object to be spun away. Lives dont matter either

man, this level was tricky...
im playing piston it away and whenever i get to the glass section with the nitros and enemies i cant see anything it's like the graphics colour has completely covered that section off. So that makes the level impossible to pass because i can't see any enemies i have to guess to get past it. any suggestions how i can fix this problem?

I gotta say, this is the hardest game to get gems, there is a hundred secret paths, harder than Crash Bandicoot 3 - Warped. Good run!
At least you don't have to backtrack through the death route this time.

theres a way to get back to the skull platform without keeping that enemy alive just slide jump towards the screen around the zapper to get to the other side.
I use to always kill it, then just jump around, i never thought of keeping it alive.
i do this but when i go back the skull and cross bones platform is no longer there it is just an outline :(
This level is like the Gone Tomorrow of Crash Bandicoot 2, except the skull route is at the end and the level isn't bloody hard!
3:30 that thing does not have to be left alive, you can slide jump towards the screen around the lazer shooting thingy up to platform.

OMG I got the crystal in this level, later i failed then i only had like 2 lives left so i went to turtle woods to get some back, then later i come back to piston it away, the friggin crystal was gone! i can't beat it now!

i duno if you have done ot or not but its level called hot coco its level 31 you have to go to the moterbike one in the third set of levels you know docter n.trophys one and crash into the big alien sign and get all the boxes on it and the relic and you should skip to a hundred and 4 after u beat cortex the secind time and you dont need any relics
i read that it's in a secret level acquired only after you've gotten all of the gold relics. Which i doubt i will ever get them all. so yeah...

This and the last light level I cannot get the gems. I have tried more than 400 times. Consider this game(for me) Crystals only unforgivingly easy. Gems: No mercy, you must be a god at videogames.

@richboywird2 try getting the gems in the first crash game, you had to complete the level without dying! Now that was tough.
Does the platform disappear every time you die?
The same way, breaking all the boxes, except you are allowed to die. I do think that this game has more challenging levels in terms of platforming, but the ability to die w/o loosing box count really takes the stress away when you're trying to get the gems.

I just use the slide spin jump to get back to the gem path. And I got the video to prove it.

this level oh god... i only did this recently (surprisingly without watching this first) and it took a good half an hour. stupid backtracking fucking everything up. I love this level though.

You dont have to slide the spider things when there legs are up you can spin em
For some reason you can't spin then (although there's plenty of space to do so .-.)

@nikitas007metal Remember, you can't die. If you die the skull platforms will disappear and you will have to exit and re-enter the level.
I need the all box gem on this level and then ill have 100%.... but of course it's a pain in the butt to get and its making me so damn frustrated and mad im about ready to break the controller... or throw it through the t.v......

This level keeps crashing on me at 1:16 and I'm playing the game on the PS3. Is anybody else having this issue?
Just to clarify, I switched to PS2 and the level worked fine.
Mark Kendziuk No it doesn't. Must be a scratched disc. Digital version plays fine and is exactly the same image of the disc.

When the guys with the shield fall... They have the same scream as the elctrified zombies in the first game! Naughty Dog was holding out on us! But they're still better than Sierra and Vivendi games... Yuck!

The box at 2:10 should have broke when you jumped on it.
You do not have to keep the enemy alive to go back to the gem path.

Yeah, it's too annoying, but feels good when you pass the game at 100%.
They still own Jak, just decided to move onto new things "Uncharted and The Last of Us" I mean....look at Call of Duty a good thing can be ruined if you do it over and over again.

The most annoying, difficult level in my case (I died so many times trying to get every box).
i always killed that enimy... i somehow eventually got up thro a glitch :/
