      Later versions (maybe after 97) didn’t have the valve. It’s not needed, but the idea was to keep hot coolant from circulating through the core until called on. Maybe it keeps the cabin cooler? 🤷🏻

    I see you clamped off the hose. Did that help keep from losing a lot of coolant?

      It did, but not long after I ended up doing a full coolant flush. That heat is great!! And the engine runs right at 210

    Before u replace the valve I can see the top water hose going in was on top and the bottom in the bottom, then u switch them bottom to top and top to bottom nipple? I got a jeep Cherokee 95 4.0

      I’d have to go back and see. It took awhile to figure out. Seemed backwards

    so bottom hose connects to top part of valve, and top to bottom part of valve?

      That’s the way the valve works as I understand it, yes. Done this twice now to two different XJs.
