Moving Coal from Train to River Barge

  • See the coal being dumped from train cars, then follow how the coal
    gets to the barge loader and see some river tug boats moving loaded
    coal barges. Then we will take a tour via Google Earth of our river
    coal loading facility and our La Belle trans loading facility where they
    load CSX and NS trains.
    Our train has 38 cars in it. Each car holds 115 tons. We load 3 different size
    barges here. Standards hold 800 to 900 tons. Stumbos hold 1100 to 1200 tons.
    Jumbos hold 1400 to 1500 tons. So you can now figure out how many train cars
    it would take to fill each different size barge.
