ABOUT KNIGHT RIDER:
David Hasselhoff stars as Michael Knight in his breakout role as a crime fighter who awakens from a serious injury with a new identity. In the series premiere, Las Vegas police detective Michael Arthur Long is shot in the face and left for dead before being rescued by dying millionaire Wilton Knight, the chairman of Knight Industries and creator of the public justice organization, the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). Wilton makes Michael the primary agent for FLAG, giving him a new identity via plastic surgery and the name Michael Knight, plus an arsenal of equipment to continue his crime-fighting work. Principle among this equipment is the Knight Industries Two Thousand, or KITT, a heavily modified and artificially intelligent Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with the ability to talk, fire weapons and travel at high speed. Michael and KITT work together to take down criminals who operate above the law.

Knight Rider - Original Show Intro | NBC Classics

A lot of people probably laugh at this show now, but I can tell you as a five year old kid, KITT was one of the coolest things ever.
I can confirm. This was my favorite show ever growing up and KITT was the main reason. Super cool car.
OPMaster1978 this and transformers si why i never got my homework done haha
OPMaster1978 Same here.
OPMaster1978 I agree completely, and KITT was way ahead of his time. A lot of his technologies (navigation, self-driving/parking, talking, etc) are becoming popular in cars of today!
OPMaster1978 indeed! I'm now with 36 years-old, but I still love Knight Rider series, and this theme (from Stu Phillips).
That narrator deserves a lot of credit. What a voice.
If I'm not mistaken, the narrator is Richard Basehart. According to IMDB, he was also in an episode of Knight Rider as "Wilton Knight".
@@7percentSolution Indeed...he played the creator of the Knight Foundation in the original TV pilot, the Knight of the Phoenix.
It's sad the actor who played Wilton Knight and the narrator of Knight Rider passed away.
That's what's missing from the 2008 one.
Narrator for Renegade anyone?! 😉🙂
Legends says that if you're watching this right now than your a legend
i love it
Lol
I have a black Honda Accord and whenever I drive it I picture myself as Michael
Brilliant

So sorry for your loss and also my condolences 🙏🏻😢😞💔
This was a true family show:
Guys liked it because it was action packed.
Ladies liked it because of the handsome guy playing the lead role.
As for us kids, we liked it because we all thought that K.I.T.T was the coolest car in the world.
I as a female loved it for the car, Devon, and bc I wanted to be just like Bonnie. The Hoff was a cherry on top.
K.I.T.T is still the coolest car in the world.
Well said. Totally agree
@@nirmalsuki I agree wholeheartedly..... and I'm 40 now. 😂🤣😂🤣
@@sersastark All the short or longer love stories that the Hoff had really worked for me as a boy/young teenager. At least as much as the car and all that stuff.
There is something truly magical about this intro. Aesthetically its perfection.
If you only knew how right you really are.

It’s MAGNIFICENT 👌🏻👏🏻

I love how the car was the real star of the show, and how much screen time it gets in this intro. The actors were just its supporting cast.
The sight of KITT emerging from the horizon is so iconic 👍
Loved that too
It's an awesome sight.
Very 💯🔥
It is a cult
and the outline of hasselhoff's head
Once you heard that theme song, you knew that IT'S ON!
One of the best shows ever. Guys loved the car, chics loved Hasselholf, EVERYONE loves the intro!
Not all chicks loved Hasselholf.! My sister and I loved the car. Sorry David Hasselholf. Yes, we did love the intro. We were watching the car coming towards us, and loving it!
my sister also loved the car (KITT personality :D )
When I was 7 years of age, I used to run to the TV and kiss David's smiling face.
May5 Liar
ok ..... some girls love the car and some guys loved hasselholf..better
Now Children dream to be rich, back then we dreamed to be heroes driving a car like KITT.
I want to be rich enough to buy kitt
So true
Sooo true
Now we have bloody Alexa to annoy us instead.
Or they dreamed of being with David Hasselhoff. I learned about the show because the neighbor girl who was ~10 years older then me had a Knight Rider poster in her room, she probably didn't watch the show to see the car ;D
I was born in mid 80's. I would say it's the best happened to me being born in that era. Best tv and cartoon shows came in 80's and 90's.
We all wanted to be Michael Knight and riding KITT when we were kids. This show is freaking awesome.
I always wanted to ride Michael's girls
As kids ??
No, I just wanted to ride in the car and find out what snotty response I'd get from KITT if I brought my cat along.
Amen! One of the most memorable things about my childhood is this show! :) And now I'm the proud owner of a miniature Firebird with the lights and sounds!
@@DanK123 i thought the girls who played the mechanics or the actors who played the villains on knight rider were also guest stars or did cameos on baywatch?
"A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist."

You had the coolest decade ever! 😎🔻🔹️⚡
Where your roots came from? So you mean the roots of your roots?
Tonight I watched the first episode again to celebrate 40 years of Knight Rider.
Everytime I listen to this theme, gives me goosebumps. Only those who grew up watching this show would know.
❤️
Aye.
The only self driving car I will ever own.
Absolutely. You just knew you were in for a treat
Agreed!
In the 70s and 80s, it seems that EVERY show had a fantastic opening theme. Hollywood really put effort into what they did back then. No more.
Honestly it’s sad. I feel like Gen Z and their kids won’t even know about theme songs, not how the should and could be at least.
Now it's just pure brainwashing 😂
I remember all the kids shows had catchy themes, like tailspin.
Thunder Cats theme, Saber riders. Amazing guitar tracks
Exactly what I was saying!! My gf and I going through old shows and jamming it all!
Still one of the coolest theme songs ever. Damn. I miss being a kid in the 80s!
Oh my God! I know!!! BEST. TIME. EVER. I feel so lucky to have grown up in the best decade ever...
If you ever get a chance look up Busta Rhymes "Fire It Up"

Minimalist early example of EDM!
Happy 41 years anniversary 🥰

Objectively, the 80s & 90s were the best time to be a kid on planet earth.
The only self driving car I'd see myself in.
yeah, me too ^^

Kubboz, Those self driving cars are running into things in the news today. A year after your comment. 😃
Same here!
James Doyle and herbie
This is so iconic for that era.
At least 50% of the coolness of a show is its musical theme. And in the 70s and 80s we had a plethora of shows/cartoons that could be recognized from their music. This was one of them.
As a 2006 kid I love the 80s and 90s that I wish I was born during those times because everything seemed so much cooler than now
An adult in the 70s and 80s is a blessing I do wish to have. Than. Bring 23 now life sucks you wait when you hit 20s you'll understand me better
K.I.T.T. is the father of Siri.

If this isn't the best intro commentary for a show, I don't know what is.
How about...In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these promptly escaped from a maximum securoity stockade to the Los Angeles Underground
I ain't getting on no plane,,,crazy fool, come on admit it now you have Mr T in your head LoL
Trusteft How about Renegade? Lol
Don’t all criminals operate above the law ?
I'm 41 years and can say that when I was a kid I heard this songs it was the best feeling that I could hear, was exciting. Time stopped
KITT was featured at Universal Studios in the '80s. My family visited there and I got to sit in the car and talk to KITT. Of course, I thought it was a real talking car. I asked KITT why he drove so fast. Did he ever fear getting pulled over by the cops? KITT said he wasn't worried about it because he could drive faster than the cops and escape. Hahaha.
Yes I remember talking to kiTT as well, as a kid visiting Universal Studios as tourists in USA. I cant remember our conversation but it was the coolest thing. I remember buying a couple of souvenir toy KiTT cars afterwards.
Such a cool memory! By the time I went to Universal in Florida, I think it was way too late.
The narrator is Richard Basehart, who had an eloquent voice like James Earl Jones. They also had him speak at the closing ceremonies of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
He portrayed "Wilton Knight" in the Pilot Episode "Knight of The Phoenix" :)
I can't believe he was the goofy clown from "La Strada."
He was an immensely talented actor. I highly recommend watching his performances in 14 Hours and He Walked By Night.
I was just going to ask who this was. Sounds almost but not quite like William Conrad.
I love the exaggerated breathiness and hesitancy of his delivery here. Vincent Price did this kind of thing too. It sounds a bit artificial and hokey now, but it was part of an earlier generation of oratory and delivery that’s still fascinating to listen to. Same goes for the stentorian announcer voices they used to have on shows like Superfriends.
No matter how old you are and how many times u listen to this song on repeat, u'll never get tired of this song. Im telling this from my very own experience. Im 23 years old now. I started watching knight rider when my parents told me about it when I think I was around 6 years old I think. So ya.. pretty much a lifetime die hard fan of knight rider and that'll never fade away

This show was it. When they started running the trailers for it- weeks before the first episode, we were all beside ourselves waiting for that show to air, nothing like it had been on TV before that. It was another level. This and A Team created a genre that was all about weekend TV.
The 1980s and 1990s were a golden age for TV
Whenever I visited my grandparents as a kid, my grandpa would have this show on ALL the time! I still remember the intro haha

Knight Rider still holds up and is WAAAAAY more
entertaining than the endless string of CSI, NCIS, and other garbage

Weeeellllllll.... To me NCIS got my attention more then Knight Rider, it just felt kinda lack luster... I felt the same when watching the original A-Team show
I feel the same way I never ever ever ever ever watched any csi or ncsi or any other crappy crime drama like law and order a day in my life I’m very proud of that, I don’t think many people could say that!
@@A.G.1.5000 the older Law & Orders are actually pretty good and I'm not a TV guy by any means. I watch a lot of reruns of old shows.......like Knight Rider.
@The Bush Wolf Then why are you here if you don't like this show? And I like NCIS but it's nowhere as entertaining as these type of shows. Procedurals are so dry and stiff now. Also, if you don't like The A Team then you just may be the most boring human being alive lol.

Still one of the best intros of any shows in the 1980's. Merry Christmas and Happy New year from me in Hamilton Ontario Canada
The announcer does a perfect job. The way he says the name of the show - Iconic.
One of those great voices like Vince Caroli, Stan Lee, we got to listen to before so many adventures.
Every Friday night 7.30pm channel 2 early 80's in Auckland New Zealand my dad and I watched this show. I always looked forward to it. Good memories.
I just love this show so much because or the dynamic between Michael and KITT. It’s just such an adorable friendship and characters like Devin and Bonnie just add to the whole thing. And mind you; I was born in 1999 and started watching this show because my mom and I were watching TV once when i was a kid and Knight Rider came on and my mom told me how she used to always watch it. Then I saw KITT mess around with some stranger who was completely confused by the self driving, talking car and I loved it when I was a kid, and that carried over. 10+ years later I’ve seen all the episodes as an adult and I still think it’s just as cool as when I saw it as a 8/9 year old kid
2024… anyone remembers this great series with the cool car?👍
Best voice intro ever
Paul Frees who also voiced K.A.R.R. in its first appearance. (Recognizable to most people these days as the Ghost Host at the Disney Haunted Mansions)
The intro was done by Richard Basehart, who played Wilton Knight.
@@burritoboy2751 You are correct. Since posting that I went back and watched the pilot. Amazing how more similar his narration voice is to Frees than to his speaking voice. But one couldn't do much better to pattern it after.
@@pigs18 Yeah, Frees was awesome. I didn't know that he voiced KARR. For some reason I thought Peter Cullen provided the voice for both of his appearances.
