Bimber Canada Single cask (ex-bourbon). I got the Australian Bimber single cask (ex-bourbon) from the same series when I was in Sydney for work. The Canadian one just slightly edged it out but both beautiful bottles as always from Bimber. Was surprised you didn’t mention them at all honestly.

Aww, this was really neat to watch. I'm Canadian and I went to British Columbia two years ago and tried most of Macaloney's Caledonian's selection. They have some interesting stuff--glad to see them on the list. Also, very fond of Nikka's Miyagikyo and was glad to see it here (always seems to be in the Shadow of the Yoichi, which admittedly is excellent). Always love your videos, Phil. Hope you have a great end to the year.

I love how we have so much variety in whiskeys from around the world! So far here across the pond I've loved 78 Degrees whiskey from South Australia and Archie Rose Single Malt from Sydney

The biggest surprise for me this year was taking a flyer on a Danish rye (yes, I heard you bashing rye), the Stauning Floor Malted Rye. It's kind of nice on the first sip, but as you get deeper into the dram, all these honey notes start coming out and it gets really delicious. The only whisky I own that I would say beats this one is the Balvenie 14 Carribean Cask, but that's twice the price

Awesome video as always and, for a change as someone deep into scotch-centric whisky tube, it's one I'm coming away from with a whole list of distilleries/bottles to look out for (e.g. Cotswolds, which I really have to look into finally). Thanks for that mate!
As for my favorite non-scotch this year it's probably a heavily peated cask strength 6yo ex-Oloroso Millstone. Really funky, eccentric stuff but very drinkable at the same time. And amazing value here in Germany too.

2:04 received mine in the mail this week and it now hangs in my lounge. It looks awesome, and I’m happy I bought one more to gift for Christmas.
As for my favorite whisky, that would be the Tobermory 28yo from Murray McDavid. Absolutely stunning, complex, fruity great nose ans very long aftertaste.

My pick is definitely the Pokeno Prohibition Porter. A good whisky integrated with my favourite style of beer. Thank you for putting me on to that one. Second place is 1919's Goleta, (another one I have you to thank for putting me on to). I have the Cotswold's Reserve which is really good, (I have Jeff Whisky to thank for putting me on to that one), but the peated one sounds good too. Also have the Nikka Yoichi and Miyagikyo, both good but I prefer the Yoichi. Indri Dru was my world whisky pick for last year. Cheers! 🥃

Great video, thanks for sharing! My favorite „world whisky“ this year has been the Mackmyra DNA small batch from Sweden. A great composition, sweetness, vanilla, chocolate, citrus, intense (small 30 l casks) and long lasting on the palate.. 😀

Great selection Phil, but yeah, that Morris Muscat Barrels is great. We actually have others down the same rabbit hole that are even better, but its all single barrel/small batch stuff. I also bought more Aus ( & even NZ) whiskies this year than ever before too. I'd love the Falcon but couldnt get it & had to settle for their Full flight ( havent tried yet). I even bought the Scapegrace Ephemeral & Thomson Manuka Full Noise for my xmas pressie from my wife lol. Looking forward to them all !

I’m Canadian and live near the Macaloney’s distillery. Its an amazing small distillery with incredible staff that source some of the best casks for maturing whisky in Canada. Id say they are my favourite Canadian distillery with Shelter Point a close second. Fun fact, they use to be called Macaloney’s Caledonian but got sued by the Scotch Whisky association for having too “Scottish” of a distillery name. If you can, try to find a cask strength version from Macaloneys as they are just amazing!

  • @thewhiskyenthusiast
    @thewhiskyenthusiast 16 дней назад +1

What a year Phil! I never got the fascination with Indri. I tried both the world version and the lower abv Indian market version both for me feel like a basic Scotch whisky rather than something 'different'.
The Falcon is a tasty whisky but oh so expensive. Have you tried their single malt Vodka, The Reid? That was such a trip in a delicious way but I don't know if I would call it a vodka in a blind.
I'm not surprised at your Number 1, it is a delicious, well balanced and moreish whisky.
    Cheers!

Interesting - Penderyn also make their peated whisky that way - it looks like they had the same master distiller when starting up, so makes sense. My parents live not too far from the Cotswolds distillery, so I'll have to pop over for a visit at some point.

I'm still undecided about which ones to pick :(
Note aside, I made my wife like Cardhu 12yo and brought her to Scotland, now she loves whisky and sponsors the distillery tours 😂. So far she is asking for more different types of whiskies and Cardhu is no longer her favorite. So, there it goes, she got hooked and currently she is studying for her Certificate in Scotch Whisky by the EWA 🥃

I’ve just made my top 10 whiskies of 2024 video (in German though) and it’s a lot of world whiskies on there, more then scotch actually which speaks for world whisky. My no one this year though was still a scotch. The Port Charlotte PMC. If I had to pick a world whisky no 1 - I’d had to decide between the Yoichi 10 year old and the Indri DRU. I’d probably pick the Indri due to its better value for money ratio.

top 3 me was Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique Single Malt 56,3 % from Taiwan, Kavalan is a name i heard about many years just was not that interested but had it during a tasting and i was like wow i need a bottle of this. on runner up after a lengthy debate came Bivrost Yggdrasil Single Malt Whisky 46% vol from Norway, one i been trying to get hold on for some years, its a low production Distillery in Norway i call it the Springbank of Scandinavia but they have a lot of experimental casks and everything from Peated to the most irish tasting fruit bombs.and without any doubt my nr 1 was this year Suntory Hibiki 21 year old Blended whisky 43%, i got to try it trough an mate of mine, i have had the orginal Hibiki blend for years and it was always a nice change of scenery from the rugged Scottish shores to something velvety, soft, nuances, peaceful. the 21 is all that and more, would i pay the price of a full bottle never ever. was it still the best dram outside Scotland, 100% i would maybe look at the price if i was in Japan to take one home.

That Sagamore Spirit Double Oak really is something special. I'm not big on Rye, either, but that Double Oak is absolutely a mainstay in my primarily Scotch cabinet. I also keep a bottle of the Knob Creek 7 year Rye around for mixed drinks when friends are over, it's a great mixer.
But if I had to pick a favorite World Whisky for the year, it's the Indri. It really surprised me when I tried some at a friends house over the summer, I went out the next day and grabbed a couple of bottles for myself... I think it's a very strong contender for best summer drinker among all of my single malts.

It should have been labeled as "my best of 24 that I could try or afford" There are hundreds, if not thousands, of better ones that you have not even tried obviously.
