Yeah, anyone who hasn't heard of FoF and plays clone hero should just register on their forum. It has tons of custom charts that you don't find anywhere else. Obviously a lot of dead links to megaupload/rapidshare etc. but I have gotten a decent amount of songs there that I couldn't find either on Chorus or C3 database. Also some charters still post their charts on the frets on fire forum and all of those are compatible with clone hero and phase shift.
I had this game before I had Guitar Hero. It was honestly my first rhythm game. It taught me the basics, such as: never trust a custom chart, rhythm games should only be made by professionals, and that the keyboard is the worst controller for a rhythm game. But I'm not gonna lie, I still loved it
I started out with FoF too. Had to bear with it for a couple of months until I got GH3 as a birthday present, it was year 2008. in 2010/2011 when FoFix had came out I played it for the numerous custom songs it had. Back then the FoF forum was like what the Clone hero discord/reddit is right now for all the customs and discussions. All FoF charts work with phase shift and clone hero so it's always worth checking the forum out if you look for a song and can't find it anywhere else. The older ones can be very low quality charts but usually those made after the biggest hype around guitar hero and rock band had settled(2010->) are good quality.
@@DJCosmicLatte yeah that happens to me too :/ i bought a new keyboard thinking it would become normal but nah, i ended up making a big mistake lmao my old keyboard had tiny gaps between 1-5 and the buttons were extremely thin. basically a controller on a keyboard. but its impossible to play with my new keyboard. there are no gaps, and the buttons require at least 15M newton worth of force to register normally
Frets On Fire actually got me into GH back in 2007/8-ish because I was a broke ass kid and I felt so cool playing basically Guitar Hero but with F1-5 keys
Frets of Fire was my home for years, before Clone Hero was a thing I kept all my (terrible) charts and the mods I had for it for ages. This was some nostalgia

I remember playing Jam Legend, and Super Crazy Guitar Maniac when Frets of Fire charts started disappearing from 1235 Frets on Fire (or something like that? Been a LOOONG time) and fretsonfire.wikidot. The fact that this feels like something from a nightmarish fever dream from 10 lifetimes ago makes me realize I'm a dinosaur learning to use the internet.
dude i wasn't able to play guitar hero so the first thing i got when i was 11 was frets on fire and i had no clue you had to strum along the notes i thought you just pressed the F1-F5 and that was it i was so upset i thought my keyboard broke or something
Me and BandiPat were actually gonna rechart the old "official" FoF songs (including the bonus content from the website) but we got too busy with other things and the Tutorial was all we managed to finish :x
@@DJCosmicLatte Me too. I did make a chart for "Defy the Machine", "Tutorial" (based on its audio), and "This Week I've Been Mostly Playing" for myself (I haven't posted them online), but I didn't feel like charting "Bang Bang, Mystery Man".
@@ThunderDragonRandy Not only is Bang Bang not a great song, but the guitar stem has all the guitars together. This Week is a fucking banger though, if you've got that with stems please send it my way cuz the original uploads for the FoF setlist are mostly dead ;w; (also why would you not release the charts aaaaa)
@Cosmic Latte I may need to re-edit/refine those charts of mine first since some of my old charts feel outdated. But these days, I primarily make charts for my own songs and covers that I make and I've been a bit lazy within these last few years, but I used to make song charts a lot for a hobby many years back.
@Cosmic Latte Oh, I also made guitar tabs of Defy the Machine and This Week. I think I have those uploaded on Ultimate Guitar as power tabs (at least for This Week I believe but I don't remember if I submitted my Defy power tab)
Oh man I absolutely rocked out, frets on fire was pretty much the only easy option for custom charts for a long time. I slapped a rock band theme over it and it worked alright.
I remember seeing a video from 2007 of a FoF video with a Weegee fretboard with the “Bagel” YTP song in the background. The chart wasn’t even playing to the song
I would have probably played FoF if I was into rhythm games as a kid but sadly I was pretty far from it, got interested about guiat hero like only a year or two ago. Looks like it was pretty sick so I'm sad that I never experienced it
I actually unironically play (and well) using a Razer Deathstalker keyboard. The keys are nice and flat, so you can slide along the board easily for hammer ons. I use f1-f5 for the fret buttons. The gap between f4 and f5 isn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. I can alt-strum using a method too complicated to explain here. All the important buttons are easy to reach and more concise than a standard guitar. I’d say, with my binds, layout, and keyboard, using a keyboard is essentially cheating compared to using a GH brand controller. Edit: I do this on clone hero.
Amazing... was also the equivalent of "expert" difficulty on the original FoF. And that original "control map" was awful. (One of) the biggest problem(s) the original game had was that >95% of players couldn't even use it because the keyboard manufacturers prevented the key combos from being pressed at the same time.
Through all this time I was watching all these various meme songs from you, Acai, and I have some interesting question. Have you ever tried to play some russian rock songs in Clone Hero? Because that whole deal with GH, RB and their choice of songs is strange even for 2007 times. I think it's time to break this injustice towards the russian rock scene. Yes, we don't have some uber-technical solos or some hard challenging riffs but our songs have soul in them, and they were missed by the entire genre in favor of other european bands. That thought made me to create a chart for you, complete with subtitles to understand the lines. Just a simple song but it was extremely influential for all post-soviet Russia back in the day, almost like an anthem. I can upload it if you wanna play it. That moment, when russian rock finally gets recognized in Guitar Hero community, it must be saved in the history of this game. If it goes well, I definitely will create some another songs for you.
