      Ivan B Hi! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and found your comment here!😊 Do you have a video about how to go about changing the microbiome? I'm having a really hard time adjusting...My bowels just seems to not to be able to EVER handle legumes and grains....I was a vegan for 10 ysr, but NEVER could get my bowels to handle especially legumes. Grains were somewhat less problematic. I ultimately had to stop eating legumes almost completely bcs of the distress....(Vegetarian now.) Trying to incorporate legumes now again so I can go back to being vegan, but it's just very difficult...Pain and bloating...Can't you do a video about that? Or if you have one, what's it called? Thanks!😊

    • @IvanBFit
      @IvanBFit 7 лет назад +3

      I don't have a video about that. Your situation sounds complex and it'd be impossible for me to accurately cover it sufficiently. I'd suggest trying easier to digest legumes like lentils and making sure they are thoroughly cooked. Also, having some citrus with beans has been shown to help. Like some lemon/lime before or some citrus fruit (orange) afterwards. You might want to consume gut nourishing foods for a while. I like beets for that. They clean me out as well as warm green tea daily. Thanks for your subscription.

    • @AA-vn2nq
      @AA-vn2nq 7 лет назад

      Ivan B you can also blend up legumes in blender and make legume soup. Be sure to cook the legumes first.

      @@cammieklund, super late reply, but if you still haven't found the answer with legumes, order some organic split red lentils from amazon. I had problems with cramping and gas from regular beans of all types, but with these sometimes I test the limit and over eat them to see if they cause me problems. Nothing...

    Fascinating information on the gut biome. This answers come questions I had about the gut biome and how it changes and adapts to what we feed it. I'm really interested in how to travel to countries where for us, eating leafy greens isn't safe - without boiling the water or whatever. I'm thinking that spinach powder with a broth might be a nice substitute..just boil water in the hotel room and drink once a day for a leafy green boost. What do you think about the scenerio when you can't eat salads and so on?

    If Meat causes bad bacteria to grow, why do the Hadza tribe tribe (which eat mostly meat) have one of the healthiest gut biomes in the world? My concern with taking this kind of data and applying it to the entire human population, is that these studies did not take into account what kinds of gut bacteria the people who did the trial had before the trial began. What they inherited from their mother, and what they picked up during their lifetime could play a massive role in the negative effects or positive effects of differing food types.

    I was just reading in your book "How Not to Diet" about Microbiome and how "More bacteria live and work in one linear centimeter of your lower colon than all the humans who have ever lived." A doctor removed my entire colon in 2000 due to ulcerative colitis. (since then I have learned that a plant- based diet would have cured it). My question is, do I store these magnificent bacteria somewhere else? My small intestine? Am I able to be as healthy as someone WITH a colon? I do eat WFPB.

    • @mabailey5938

      Derek Santos No. ALA is converted to EPA and DHA by our human cells, not the microbiome. Our bacteria may convert ALA in our large intestine, but we do not absorb fats from our large intestine.

    I had loose stool for some time until I started eating one type of food for a period of a week or so, then my stool went normal. The product in question is hand made pasta, which brought me (together with a plant based diet) to bowel movement normalisation (regularity and non-looseness). Any studies on "eating the same of whatever for a long period of time leading to better digestion of the whatever in question"?

      actually I was eating different things every day, like you go to lunch somewhere and you get a different dish thinking differentiation is good. And I had problems with gut and bladder. But when it got worse with finances and I had to eat same simple things everyday - my stool got perfect in all aspects. If you ask about plant based or omnivore - lunches were omnivore and there were problems. Then I got into 99% vegan (a chocolate or doughnut or yoghurt every week is the vegetarian 1%) but still had problems with my gut and bladder. But when I got into same food everyday - it suddenly got superb!

    Can you help me, how to cure Candida with a vegan diet?

    • @jonschooley8951
      @jonschooley8951 7 лет назад +2

      There are a few conditions that need to be met in order to over come candida overgrowth, if you're sure that is what your problem is. The best way to find out is by a broad spectrum stool analyse, checking for levels of beneficial bacteria, fungus, and pathogenic bacteria. Assuming candida is the issue here is brief summary on what should be done. Mind you I'm not a physician nor is this medical advice, I'm merely stating the methodology I used to overcome my sibo/candida overgrowth ( that sounds so cheesy ).
      1. Minimize stress, it will decrease levels of beneficial bacteria.
      2. Eliminate exposure to environmental toxins as much as possible. Alcohol and tobacco are the big ones.
      3. No caffeine. It negatively effects the intestinal tract.
      4. NO SIMPLE SUGARS until gut health is completely restored. This goes for of course refine sugar, HFCS, but also includes all natural sugar products i.e date sugar, maple syrup, coconut palm sugar, brown rice syrup etc. And for the time being NO FRUIT. The only exception is ONE granny smith apple per day. Once the dysbiosis is corrected you may reintroduce fruit back into the diet, however do so slowly.
      5. Eliminate any food allergy foods you've developed. Most common ones of plant origin wheat, corn, soy, tomatoes, sesame seeds, peanuts, and BANANAS. If you tolerate any of these food well than it is fine just be cognizant of them.
      6.Supplements
      - Herbal antiseptic/antibiotic: I prefer Grapefruit Seed Extract. Nutribiotic makes a quality product
      - Digestive Enzymes
      - A quality probiotic: You don't need a product with a zillion cfu or something with excessive amounts of different strains. Use a product with about five to six strains, the most important two being Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium Bifidum. A CFU of 10 - 20 billion a day is sufficient enough.
      Instructions: Whatever herbal antibiotic you choose be sure to start slowly. The greater the overgrowth, the more prudent your approach should be. Aggravation or massive die off is not desirable, your looking to inhibit the growth of bad bacteria/ yeast and promote the re-balancing of gut with beneficial bacteria.
      If you choose the GSE start with just 5 drops in 5-8 oz of water the first day to see how you react. If tolerated work yourself up to 10 drops three times per day in between meals. You may need more or less just find what is comfortable for you.
      The enzymes/ probiotic should be taken at the start of a meal in the morning and/or at night.
      A time frame on results is very individual and depends upon how bad your overgrowth is, however give it two - six months.
      If you wish to understand the reasoning behind this information follow Candida Crusher's RUclips channel. He has 800 videos explaining every facet of SIBO/Candida overgrowth.
      I hope this information can be of use to you.

    • @jonschooley8951
      @jonschooley8951 7 лет назад +2

      Sound advice Nicha, however from my personal experience being clinically diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis and now being in remission without the aid of pharmaceuticals, if the dysbiosis is severe enough throughout the digestive tract and prior to adapting a WFPB diet it will not be enough. Pathogenic bacteria like H.pylori or candida will cause inflammation of stomach lining damaging the parietal cells compromising the production of hydrochloric acid, which can leads to symptoms such as GERD by also affecting the esophageal sphincter or food allergies by way of leaky guy. Once digestion is compromise candida or other opportunistic bacteria will be more then willing to consume your sweet potato or brown rice for energy. You have to inhibit the growth of the pathogenic bacteria and/or yeast while also restoring beneficial bacteria to adequate levels to truly see the benefits of a whole food plant base diet.

      strong how? less TMAO producing bacteria, but in turn less of the bacteria that thrive on meat/dairy? or the other way around where there is a lot more inflammation and TMAO production with more bacteria that thrive on meat/eggs/dairy? seems kinda paradoxical to say strong gut for eating meat/eggs/dairy either way, unless you mean strong as in LESS TMAO production on consumption of meat/eggs/dairy where someone only very rarely feeds the gut these things, and thus is less effected by the ill effects

      The first vegans I ran into in the past would sometimes eat meat once a week or a month, probably cause of B12. The macrobiotic diet also allows for less than 5% of daily cals coming from animal sources, thus their disease rates are about as low as vegans....

    Eat raw milk kefir and same thing happens.. you can then digest milk proteins and cure lactose intolerance.

    • @mabailey5938
      @mabailey5938 6 лет назад +3

      KungFuChess No. Lactose intolerance occurs when our human bodies don’t produce lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose. Eating raw milk does not change our human enzyme production. Also, raw milk carries dangerous food-borne pathogens. It is illegal in the US for a reason.

      dux mea lux, I highly recommend watching the for-mentioned video Gregor did on eggs; meat and eggs can contribute to diabetes just as much as refined and added sugar. Also, not all carbs contribute to diabetes. Vegans who get 80% of their calories from their carbs can, and do, reverse their type 2 diabetes.

    I believe a plant based diet and/or a proper nutritional plan is for those persons that are missing the necessary protection from their DNA. I have known people who die of old age on a lifelong diet made up of oils, dairy and sugar. My friend who is 60 years of age drinks a daily table spoon of olive oil and has never experienced cardiovascular issues as other younger family members. Other videos indicate oils can damage blood vessels. My wife of 28 years and who also happens to cook all the meals has never suffered from high sugar or cholesterol levels with a Calcium score of zero. However is affected by gold bladder stones that are supposed to be created by high cholesterol. You need to find out what affects you body and address the issues on an individual level. For me a plant based diet is crucial. It has totally reverse type 2 diabetes and lower LDL to 93 from years of high numbers.

      +Gabe Guerrero - A plant-based diet may be the solution "for those persons that are missing the necessary protection from their DNA". However, if you look further from an egocentric position, a vegan diet is always the best, perhaps the only choice for the animals, the environment, and a fairer distribution of resources between people.

    Red meat and tmao has been thoroughly debunked. I had severe dysbiosis on a plant based diet, switching to a low carb, high fat, moderate (animal) protein diet has literally given me a new life. I hope you can all keep an open mind and know that everyone is different.

    • @mabailey5938
      @mabailey5938 6 лет назад +3

      Paradoxical Axiom “I had severe dysbiosis”. Dysbiosis is not a diagnosis that can be made by a physician. You are speculating. And no not everyone is different. We are all human beings with the same physiology. It’s not like some humans thrive on plants and others thrive on meat. We are one species with the same dietary requirements.

    • @Crobian
      @Crobian 6 лет назад +1

      No he is actually right. Everyone is different, everyone's microbiome is different. It's definitely not true that we all have the same dietary requirements, especially in an age with antibiotics and globalisation (exposure to foreign bacteria). Some people thrive on a vegan diet and feel horrible on a high fat/meat diet, and others have the opposite experience. It all depends on your gut's ability to break down foods. As the title of this video suggests, we are what THEY eat.

      G'day Mr Axiom. The axiom of epigenetics is 'You are what your GRANDMOTHER ate'. Yes we are all human but we come from different geographic and cultural backgrounds. One MD who is now Carnivore, previously Ketogenic and previously Paleo believes the reason he is now so much better in health is that he is eating what his northern hemisphere ancestors ate whereas the diet does NOT suit his wife who is Polynesian. I did Ketogenics for 16 months and loved the food but it did nothing to rectify my gut issues (long standing) but when I gave Carnivore a trial (4 months now) my gut health changed for the better from day one. Hope that helps.

    You know some of you vegans support Monsanto right? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that vegetables and fruits are all made in a laboratory and are virtually impossible to digest and to get any kind of nutrients from it; vitamins and hormones A, F, D k2 b6 b12. The animals that solely you love care for actually need to fertilize and to cultivate the ground soil for organic produce, so you don't have to use monsanto seeds/soil, they don't want to keep growing it yourself and eating it like nature indented to do so, Try growing organic solely, the plants will be eaten, infected and poisoned as soon it's planted on regular soil it's hard to maintain, but can be ultimately grown like naturel intended. They want you to use their soil/seeds. That is why it is slowly killing your body from no meat and to say that plants will just flush right out of the digestive tract system is a good thing, false that's a bold faced lie because, it doesn't know what to do with the microbiomes it will not ferment or glycation will form and AGE's an ultimately it will be destroyed by your gut flora weak strain of molecules against one thousands preventive biomes will fail when sugar is added to any kind of acid has nothing to absorb. The vegan agenda is in full effect as with the brainwashing that meat is a not the way to go, no freaking shit processed cooked meat or factory big meat is cancerogenic so is pasteurized milk, go to your local organic grass fed farms where they raise animals on grass fed pasture with no spray or gmo fertilizer, an which raw milk is illegal, btw that's your governmernt for you and worldwide effort is to promote agenda 21, go fucking eat your legumes, veggies and nuts. Soon enough theyll have you starving for starberry jam or grape jelly so youll think its nutritious. When monsanto will run out of your favorite seeds? The answer is they never run out and will keep planting chemicals right up your arse as long as you give them your money. How's that six figure salary Greg!

    People keep thinking that veganism is the only way to go... HOWEVER, if you read between the lines you can see that these studies are far from definitive.... the first one only showed a link between typical American diet and high incidence of inflammatory markers, if you want better data then they should exclude one food group at a time. The other study he showed said meat , dairy , and eggs are totally fine to eat provided they don't account for a bulk of the calories consumed....humans are omnivores, this trait has allowed us to infest every part of the globe. So if you tell me that a healthy human population can only follow 1 type of diet then I'm gonna be wanting better data than this.
