you need to build a hoe to avoid bending over and wasting so much energy to do that which a couple swings could do... though i don't know how long a wood and stone hoe would last...

Fucking rip off man . Just write the title to "farmland (how to build a fertilizer)" or something . We already know its a primitive technology because of your channel's name . You have no shame confusing people with the original Primitive technology channel ? Cheap ass youtuber .

As you get more advanced into what you are creating on this farm, good explanation should be included with each scene. You do provide very detailed videos, but now, many things you so with the preparation of these growing areas, are not fully explained with your actions. Subtitles would be very helpful.

I live in a desert so for us when we make a farm we typically use grass trimmings, tree leaves we rack up, mixed in with horse dung in the spots we're going to plant new seeds. A few local farmers use that method as do a lot of people when we make our own grow beds. Granted we live in a desert so we also need to buy a lot of the time specific soil as sand, clay, and red rock don't work for growing anything but weeds other unwanted, except sage brush (nice smell), plants. So it's nice to see how he's doing it because it's interesting to see how he's making his rice fields.

It would be even more peaceful to live it. If you are keen on leaving modern society (It's obviously fucked), then help me build a city at some sort of island or coastline. It will be based on something right out of the early 18th century, and there will only be "pre-industrial age" technology used. The town is to be built, inspired by Nassau or some other colony in the 18th century Bahamas. Sadly, islands and acreage cost a lot of money, but if we are many, and we all sell our properties, it should be easy to afford the island/land and resources needed. I really don't think it should be a problem to sell your property and unnecessary belongings, if you are planning to leave modern society anyways. A couple of islands I have in mind are, Matana South seas plantation, Igoigoli Island and Whitsunday Island. There are also some coastal areas that can be used. Maybe something in New Guinea. In New Guinea one can find coastal stretches that are up to 50 km long without any named location showing up on google earth (they show the name of practically everything on google earth) Too be honest coastal areas are likely a more viable solution than small islands. Acreage bought off the mainland is also way cheaper than an island of the same size.
Remember that if one person gets a couple followers those followers might also get some, and then we have a chain reaction. This is possible guys. If you are interested, then like my comment so other people can see that you are interested. Contact me on email: emiladefoged@gmail.com

Your idea for fertilizer is great... You can improve upon it by making a few piles in an area you will not use about 1 meter square and a half meter tall, lay out your organic material and throw a small layer of dirt on top and put another layer of organic material and repeat a few times... In a few months your organic material will break down and you can turn it some... You use one pile to lay in your field then use another pile to make a few more new piles till you have a great rotation going... By using an existing pile you will help speed up the process, It may only take a month to break down giving you a new pile or 2 every month...

3:10 You should make another pond / water catchment there.
I also assume that you eat right? What is your diet? Make a compost heap between your hut and the patch upstream to the side.
It will become home for organisms that break it all down and you can throw all your food scraps.. Like you would really have any scraps but even bones, husks, peels and cores etc.

Flooding is typically used because either you want to eradicate pests or your soils is too acidic so you want to wash it all up. I don't see either of those. The nutrients that was washed up is so wasteful in my opinion. On the other hand, legumes is a good source of nitrogen so he submerged and burried it in the area so after it will decay, you will have a nice amount of nitrogen. The problem is it will take time because the mircoorganisms that is responsible for decaying Organic matter is mostly washed away so you will still wait until the reproduce so the decaying process will hastened. Good job overall. :)

First you need adequate, controlled drainage.
Then you need a water source and means to get there.
      Then you need your fields/gardens/paddies/ponds.
Fill em with water to soften the soil to make planting, weeding, and in this case mixing vegetation for fertilizer. the young plants he picked will decompose faster if kept moist and warm and mixed with the soil (not sure how long he'll let it sweeten before he plants). Today we would use a roto-tiller or just buy fertilizer, be it chemical or organic. In NFLD we put fish in the ground.
      It's all about resource control.

Fun random facts: Recent studies have shown that the only times you should ever till the soil of farmland is either when you are first settling the land for farming to dig up any old roots (kinda like what he was doing in this video) or stumps that will get in the way (as well as to soften the soil for the first crop) or if a new root has dug itself into the crops territory... this is because tilling the soil between harvests destroys the root systems that are there that are feeding the microbes that are keeping your crops health as well as releasing all of the extra carbon that the plant have taken out of the atmosphere... more carbon is release into the air from farms tilling every harvest then all of the cars in the worlds emissions... of course if anyone really cared about the amount of carbon in the atmosphere then all you'd have to do is cover all of Australia's deserts in grass and the yearly carbon emissions would start to go into the negative...

You are both right and wrong. If you are a cattle or sheep farmer (only growing grass then plowing is bad) but I would like to see you grow some veggies with out plowing the soil 😀

well this was only found out in the last couple years and well... you try telling people who have spent generations doing the same thing season by season to change something that they wouldn't see slowly eroding the land and removing the fertility from the soil unless they either were immortal or had taken picture of the land every year since they started... TD:LR a lot of them are set in their ways...

I'd eat the rats and make the great gizmos & contraptions, but I just can't get myself to squish around bare-footed in mud. I just can't. Kudos!

I'm the other side of the world yet do something similar - go collect plants, submerge them, use the resulting mixture as a liquid feed. Plentiful, free, organic. For bulk I use manure, leafmould and other plants composted. Takes me longer to wash than this fellow though.
