- Here it is! At long last and Straight from the VAULT! Punk Rock GOLD! This is how you do it kids! Rare Super 8 footage culled from multiple stops on the legendary Gang Green "Skate to Hell Tour" of summer 1985! The "Classic" line up! We toured on the back of the Skate to Hate/Alcohol 45 single! Vinyl baby! Highlights and lowlights including: a visit to the “Home of Budweiser” St. Louis Missouri! A factory tour where at the end you could drink as much beer as you could consume free for 30 glorious minutes! Along the way we ran outta gas, got a ticket for speeding (we passed an ambulance on the highway!), got stuck in fog on a mountain, played all sorts of whacky places, VFW’s, kids houses, crummy bars (and few good ones!) had to threaten “promoters” to get paid, met girls, got in fights, starved, met other girls, got fed, disconnected the odometer on our cross country van rental (saving huge $$), van blew up in CA, (also Chris bent the axel in a motel parking lot while driving to the lobby for ice so it was not running that great anyway), played some AMAZING shows, and came home after 7 weeks with $7 each. And a few scratches and lots of memories (which I have mostly forgot!). Enjoy! I know we did! AB

Talking about some PunkRock Gold!
As an alcoholic I can vouch for the accuracy of this song. No truer words…
Take care, my friend. It's tempting indeed...
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
'I'd rather drink than fuck' - Ive never heard truer words in a song about substance abuse.
Absolutely, I been sober 90 days, I miss 😢 my vodka
Gang Green rocks as hard as baking soda and cocaine. My introduction to these guys was the This Is Boston Not LA comp and loved em ever since.
What's baking soda Got to Do with It

The played the Quad the first day I moved into my dorm at NorthEastern University in 1986, WOW!!!
dude!!! THANK YOU for that memory. Class of 1992!
I started drinking to this then and still drinking today, GenX Life
2 of my uncles were in this band
i know those guys! : )
And you're still alive?
Your uncles are legends. I'll bet they've got some killer stories.
Every time they played it was a powerhouse of beer-soaked chaos. Easily one of Boston’s most important bands.
thanks for the comment, please share the link!
WBCN played this song. During prime time drive even. The LAST radio station with real balls.
you are right. BCN was Awesome back in the day...share this link please
Great tune and also a great two and a half minute commercial for Budweiser
Yea lol but I feel like it's pretty tongue in cheek consumerist, the labels are everywhere hahaha
I have loved GG since the late 80's and even made it onto the back cover photo of 'Can't LIVE Without out' recorded at The Marquee club in London in 1990, in 2007 I spent the London show crewing for them and out on the tiles with Chris until 3am. This video may be the last way that I would like to remember them by now, Chris in his element still, before a stroke a few years between then and now has left him unable to play guitar, he is back, singing again, and on tour in the UK this August '23. I may go, but I don't wish to see him struggle ❤❤❤
GG at Alcatraz Festival was good, Chris did the best he could. ❤ 👏👏👏👏
My first punk band I got to see them this year in Providence ri
hi im a 18 year old guy from norway and i just wanted to say i love this fucking song! me and my friends regularly get together, buy lots of beer and put on some good music and this is one of those rare songs that makes poeple go wild... i'd rather drink than fuck
GIVE ME A LIIIIIIINEEEEEE

You Norse boys have more enthusiasm then today's American boys. I'm proud you guys didn't eat up Pop culture.
Keep up the good work son. You are well on your way.

Saw them back in the days in Zeche Bochum, awesome
Eine der geilsten Bands!!! Zeitlos gut!

Wow! unbelievable rare unseen footage of this punk band at their absolute peak!
Every time I sing this song everybody would cut me off that was my song that everybody cut me off so funny love is band love the song back in the punk day
I cannot believe in no longer reply to this every time I sing the song all my friends would cut me off this is my main song for years
I love this f****** song so much no one makes a comment you probably weren't there sorry for your luck
Nice.
I had this album back in the day.
Rather drinking then f-ing here😎
My punk band - SGM - opened for them on a 5 date tour of Canada. So fucking good. They toured with their own US Budweiser because Canadian bud tastes different.
i figured theyd opt for stronger canadian beer (back then, american beer had to not be above a certain alcohol percentage). get some Schooners or 8% alc Carlsberg Gold. i think Molson Export was stronger. they were serving Carlsberg green pounders in Columbus at a cheater slicks show. Schooner was high brow beer when i was in high school. "an honest brew makes its own friends". Elsinore was the best.
Fun fact: Canadian beer sucks 🤣
i always wanted to but could never afford to be an alcoholic
bro really
A good alcoholic never pays.
Extremely underrated band
Great video..great band..great song

When punk was punk and nobody killed nobody at having fun
just a few bruises...
the only deaths were the overdoses :(
Great tune, Ian Mackaye probably wouldn't approve, but who cares. I love the booze too
Being that I’m now 56 living as a punk and stealing cars to go to shows it was a great part of my life.
I’ve given my life to Christ after years of severe drug and alcohol abuse.
Many of my “straight edge” friends decided to “come to the other side”.
Your comment had me laughing my ass off cheers mate
Use to work for tons of boston/providence punk hardcore bands in the early 80s miss those days. Time machine please
This is the only lineup of Gang Green that really matters.
true enuff....
Thats a great punk tune

they did a show at the Cameo in Miami . I recall a few cameras set up facing the stage we were stage diving to try to get to them.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! Saw GG many many times as a Boston native. Pretty sure I'm in this video slamming for .00000009 of a second.
Yep that might be you! Though much of this footage is from the summer tour...anyway glad you liked it and please share!
Nice one!
I forget how many times you played The Living Room in Providence (probably due to alcohol!) but I was at all of them!
good times. Randy. the food they fed bands was great. sometimes we charged out of towners to park in the free lot.they did not know better. this esp worked at Ramones shows. lots of outta state plates.
Big love for Big Rich (RIP) ❤️
Over 80 bottles since Thanksgiving.
I've lost count and have become addicted,
& I don't even drink.
One of the truest songs about substance abuse because when you'd 'rather drink than fuck' or substitute drink for any other substance you know you've got a problem.
HEY 👉 'aint got a Drinking Problem 'cept when i CAN'T get a Drink ! 🍺
Fuckin' awesome! Big Ups from Potsdam, Cheers!

SO GOOD
Best hardcore band ever!!!

Olivette Community Center for the St. Louis stop that tour if I'm not mistaken. Had the pleasure of bringing the band to STL on their next trip through town. My stepdad worked at Anheuser Busch so I had a lot of Budweiser gear I was trying to send to the band prior to that tour. It kept getting sent back and never signed for because they didn't know who it was from. If memory serves, that is what Chuck told me. Went to Denny's with Glen and Chuck and couple of friends after the show. Those were the days.
Craig Thompson - in St Louis there was a girl who we went to the brewery with and whose house we crashed at. Her parents were away. She is in the movie a bit especially the brewery bar scene. That’s her BBQ at the end I think. I dunno who she is or how we got in touch with her. Maybe thru MRR?
PunkRockGold Don’t recognize her. Don’t remember if I talked to you guys on that tour or not. I know I bought the 7inch Skate/Alcohol at that show. We either had to exchange contact info there or down the line. We brought you to Turner’s Hall next time through STL. Great show.
Yeah I was just on that first run...I’m in the movie too as well as shot it! Can’t remember much ha ha! I still have some picture sleeve 45s! Green vinyl! Sold a couple on eBay for $80...good times. Great band. Wish they’d reform this lineup for Riot Fest or something...
Props to GG for balls...Boston in '85 was MILITANTLY Straightedge complete with fuckers wielding hockeySticks to knock drinks from the hands of strangers (Choke vocs for NegativeFX & SlapShot) Certainly not that bad IRL its just Boston was the top spot for SE at the time it was hyped up...Did that personally affect GangGreen? I know our westcoast badboys RKL (must-hear group likeminded with GG) played with local SE acts like Stalag13 & ScaredStraight..Punk rock hardcore being stronger than plain SE-
Don't drink but that's actually pretty cool to know. Great song too
@@callmeishmael5742 SS Decontroll-Get it away lp DYS-Wolfpack lp Negative FX- S/T lp are suggested if you care to get a feel for it
@@gacdregacdre4262 damn. Good music too, though
lol, I had no idea we were one of the big straight edge scenes back then, even though I went to a buncha shows at the time. I guess that reflects on the neighborhood of proud Irish multigenerational crash test dummy alcoholism and drug usage I grew up in, as well as where my general interests lay at that youthful time😁(I do remember the straight edge type talk seeming like some kinda foreign language I didn't even wanna try to understand, it just did not compute with my operating system back then)
ironic that two of the local scenes best were polar opposites...ssd straight edge and gang green drink to excess
Though… SSD had a member or 2 that did not follow the no booze “rule” of Straight Edge… just sayin’
@@punkrockgold2685 There's no way Springa never drank or got high hahaha 😆
Dude, Gang Green is actually one hell of a fast aggressive version of AC/DC Bon Scott era.
Yes!
i think Jerrys Kids put out the best music, they could play. this is a classic us punk track and a big snub to the meatheaded sxe scene that kinda dominated boston. classic, im talking top 10 material. Jerrys Kids were called boring live because they were too busy playing to jump around. they had one of the best drummers in any genre, he just chose to play fast and in a punk band. their album was killer after killer. how did Mission of Burma hang with these bands? i always wonder if they were pals or what? cheater slicks definitely didnt fit in and left for the open minded midwest early on.
Good job with the editing, it's got a great live feel! I did find you sans sideboards 😜

Tl;dr: Surprised I can't find tGG covering this song after searching for 5 min: Not about to go browsing discographies, but I saw Gang Green in 1986 or so, the entire set was kickass. Fucking club was going nuts, they came back and closed with "Whole Lotta Rosie." That was the only time I ever saw the entire floor erupt into a circle pit.
yeah "Rosie" was a show closer in those days. what city/club was this in?
@@punkrockgold2685 The Metroplex, Atlanta GA.
Whoa, hold up - were you in Gang Green? EDIT: Just read the description, derp. Fuck yes bro. The first hardcore mix tape I ever got was in Jr. High, given me by this girl fresh out of YDC (juvy) and it had a bunch of stuff from "This is Boston not..." along with Angry Samoans, Feederz, Ism (!), Gay Cowboys in Bondage (!!), DRI, Code of Honor, Circle Jerks.... But everyone had come up on hard-rock/metal, , and hearing "Rosie" Loud Fast Rules style.... That was really something. Never forget it. Cheers and all the best to you.
