- The band recorded their debut album Life of Dreams at Systems Two Studios in Brooklyn, New York, in 1985, which was released through Combat Records the following year. Produced by Norman Dunn, the album contained a total of 16 blistering tracks yet clocked in at just under 33 minutes. Life of Dreams delivered a collection of 158 different punk-style riffs, mixing soaring metal-style and blues-style guitar solos, super-tight bass and drums, all laced with an abundance of time changes and topped off with Chris Notaro's unique gravel-style vocals. Despite a very low budget, the overall production, including heavily 'chorused/distorted-effect' guitars, did great justice to a band who could also pull it off live

Punks, skins, metalheads, diving, singalong, slamming, hoodies, long hair, flying Vs, short hair, solos, riffs, 3 chords, hardcore, Crumbsuckers, WOW. I had the privilege of seeing their amazing Life Of Dreams show in San Antonio, TX. One of the most amazing bands of the era.
This is how should've been until today.. but company bands took over
yeah, no scene police back in the times
criminally underrated - this is one of those rare perfect albums, right up there with the first SUICIDAL, CROMAGS and SOD records, straddling the no-man's land of thrash and punk in the so called crossover realm. imho they were banging right into Reign In Blood territory. Notaro's clean cut "Tom Cruise" look-a-like look was a key ingredient; the perfect Trojan horse deception. and these boys were all top notch gifted musicians.
Little known fact: Tom Cruise on vocals. Crumbsuckers was his side gig where he could get all hardcore 'n shit.
Always reminds me of a cool mix between Sick Of It All, Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, SOD and Suicidal Tendencies. Very underrated NYHC/Crossover Thrash band.
yup, you said it. exactly.
More of a high tech top tier guitar work, like if Broken Bones had Ralph Santola, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, and John Petrucci all dialed in, on the same page, Actually Got a feed the most difficult high-end high school guitar work I’ve ever heard on any type of avante garde “genre busting” music
agreed
My favorite at the time
I'm an old man. I was there!!
I saw them play backyard parties on the Island with the original singer. We are old indeef
me too brother
I used to LIVE at the hardcore matinees at CBs...holy fuck, $5 got you in and you KNEW you were seeing the Crumbs, Agnostic Front, LeeWay...fucking TOKEN ENTRY...Murphy's Law...CroMags....Warzone...then you would get the visits from Fugazi...Bad Brains and all those DC bands....that shit was SO FUCKING TIGHT
I went to High School with these guys ...they had some wild parties...Great times!
Long Island Soapheads forever!
one of the most underrated bands ever
I remember almost 40 fuckin' years ago getting a Crumbsuckers cassette from my buddy Scott in New Jersey and being blown away. Classic.
I got my cassette from Big John Berlaga at Rock Dreams in Hamilton, Nj. Life of Dreams, what part of Jersey?
Ребята, вы молодцы!!!
Looks like a band where 5 dudes from different cliques got into a band together. We have the football player, the long haired metal guy, the hardcore dude, the guy who works in his dad's garage and the kid who looks like he gets straight A. LOL, this is a great fucking band.
They were the Breakfast Club of NYHC.
Legends of hardcore and thrash
I remember seeing this for the first time when it came out and it blew me away. Still does.
one of the greatest ever, love oldschool hardcore all the time, awesome video , thanks
I love how you can clearly hear a differnce in both guitarists lead styles. Dave has a smoother, bluesy, legato feel, while Chuck has that staccato fenzied approach with the heavy trem angle. Both are so damn cool - I love the contrast and how they play off each other.
First time I've listened to these guys. Saw their albums for sale in record stores in the late 80's. This is in no way hard to believe that this video is from 1986. That was the last year of the Crossover which started in 1983 with hardcore/thrash bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Minor Threat, and metal bands like Metallica. 1986 was really the last year of the post punk era. About that time the Cro-mags, and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles came out. The west coast is where it all started. L.A., and bay area. The east coast scene didn't really take off, until the mid/late 80's. Of course the Misfits and Agnostic Front had been around since the early 80's, but the Hardcore/Thrash scene was rooted in California. Moshing(90's east coast term) was called slam dancing, or thrashing in the 80's. The 80's were when slamdancing, skanking, the Huntington Beach shuffle, stage diving, and crowd surfing were all invented. If you don't believe me, watch a different state of mind or the decline and fall of western civilization. Great times, in the last decade that good music was made. Then the abysmal 90's came along with democrats whittling away our civil rights, and gangsta hip hop and alternative ruining everthing. I did like the rave rockers of the late 80's/early 90's from across the pond though. Like the Happy Mondays, the Soup Dragons, and Jesus Jones.
I saw them play live in Detroit in 1986. I slipped on spilled beer and cracked my head on the ground causing wicked whiplash. Good times.
Came to NYC after the Army. 1988. Saw the Crumbsuckers , Cro Mags and Damage NYC. Best show ever. They were the best
This was in my late teens early 20's .... holy shit... "WHAT IS THIIIIIIIISSSS"
What a song /video. Perfection
🔥🔥🔥🔥
This video was my very first exp(l)osure to HC. More then three decades has passed and I've been to a countless number of mosh pits but Crumbsuckers is still my favorite HC band.
I dig the vocals.
Take a toke, don't be a nerd!

I was at one of their shows at CBGB. Remember my friend didn’t have ID and Chris Notaro was walking by seeing what was going on and got him in.
Awesome crossover NYHC band 🇺🇸🎤🥁🎸🎸🤘
this is the pinnacle of the convergence of genres, before what i estimate is nefarious elements in the govt successfully undermining of the whole thing.

It's funny how these 'kids' still rock hard in 2024. Yes, I call them kids. At the time these kids were adults to me.

@@christineblack4654 Dude, Crossover isnt a new generation term. People have been referring to this Thrash metal/Hardcore punk mix as Crossover Thrash since D.R.I coined the term in late '86/'87
@@themadthrasher5000 well fuck that name. thrash is thrash. hardcore is hardcore and punk is punk and metal well there are many different types of metal. but holy fuck stop making up new fucking names. I don't care if DRI tried to make the name popular Thrash is the name that puts punk hardcore and heavy, speed metal all together we dont fuckin need a new one. lol
The term Crossover is old as fuck lmao
