this movie is so under appreciated especially the opening scene, it's so beautifully done with the music it shows how beautiful the world is, it will get you emotional.
The score to this film alone is.... just... indescribable. The mix of real locations and animations are impressive enough, but this movie wouldn't be as good if it weren't for the incredible soundtrack. James Newton Howard is a music genius.
Oh, hell... I remember a couple of years ago, maybe two-three where I woke up one morning having dreamt of the scene where the Pteranodon flies through the waterfall. I loved this movie as a kid, and I still do, but I suppose I forgot about it for some years, but ever since I dreamt about it I never did again. It's pure magic.
One of the most important things from my childhood. I never could sit through the whole movie (I didn't have that kind of patience) but I loved this scene, and I always hummed the music from when the pteranodon was flying with the egg.
I wish the entire film was like this opening scene, where none of the dinosaurs talk and the film is simply told through the music and the actions/expressions of the dinosaurs. It's a risk taker, but I don't think this movie needed any dialog to know what's going on, and I also think it would have made the film much better.
The Disney creators of this said from the beginning that this film wont be a dinosuar documentary. Since the beginning they said that the movie will be with dialoge and some kind of survival action-drama. It is a movie gods sake, is it really that bad that the characters talk here? I think not. As i said the movie wasnt supposed to be like a documentary but a classical Disney movie.
When this movie was advertised, I thought that it was all going to be told in music. I was extremely pumped about that, and super disappointed when it became all Land Before Timey. If they ever did that with a movie (basically a 90-minute segment of Fantasia) I would pee my pants. It will never happen though. I thought that I was the only person that wanted this; apparently a lot of other people did too.
I can identify all the Dinosaurs in this scene, in case some of you were wondering. 0:00 Oviraptor 0:48 Koolasuchus 1:00 Talarurus 1:13 Pachyrhinosaurus 1:23 Pteranodon 1:55 Iguanadon, Parasaurolophus, Brachiosaurus. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DINOSAUR MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!!! I can recite every single piece of music sounds lines and movement that they made down pact without a single mistake same thing with the first lion king that disney ever did
So we have Oviraptor, Koolasuchus, Talarurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Pteranodon, Parasaurolophus, Brachiosaurus and Ichthyornis all in one scene of roughly two and a half minutes. Nice.
dabugeaeteman thebugman I do remember him, I just didn't find him as interesting. It may be because he wasn't a very interesting character overall...or it might be because I'm biased seeing as I love pterosaurs so much (out of the talking animals, though, I think I like Baylene the most).
CJCroen1393 Indeed. I remember when the movie came out, a lot of movie geeks observed that the movie was so much more interesting during the intro when it almost felt like Disney was going to attempt to tell a narrative purely through visuals. But no, the dinosaurs started talking soon thereafter, and all the Land Before Time tropes and clichés reared their bland heads.
CJCroen1393 oh man i've found the name of the pteranodon, i was playing some old pc games when i found the dinosaur game and it's a playable character named flia
0:00 From this point in the cartoon, a long and somewhat better scene of the film begins and it is really cool because it is the one that fully introduces us to the beauty of the surrounding world and shows the scale of the surrounding reality, the hero has not even been born yet but has already made an incredible journey by his standards, and how it is shown and what is important how it is done causes admiration and to this day the music of James Newton Howard, who may be familiar to everyone from "Dreamcatcher", is divine and makes the ears feel good, and the visuals... yeah, damn, they used real landscapes that were filmed, on which dinosaurs were then superimposed, and I can't say that they look folk or at least obvious, no, I only see what the film spends its financial resources on.
@@kade-qt1zu Oh, okay! That makes more sense now. For some odd reason, I thought that the choir was chanting Notre Dame as a possible reference to The Hunchback Of Norte Dame (the Disney version, that is, which of course came out four years before Disney’s Dinosaur). Anyway, thanks for clarifying that!

it's amazing how far visual effects have come in such a relatively short amount of time - I remember watching this movie when I was like 10-11 and being amazed by the visuals, while now so many people can do better stuff from their homes - but the use of real environments was probably a really good move
I love this movie. The 3 most epic show casing of dinosaurs are Land Before Time, Jurassic Park and this. What I love is how as new information is discovered good movies tend to 'evolve' along with it to capture not just the general audience but the dinosaur savvy audience as well.

himynameispuky. Ita my favourite. Whenever I play gta5, I would fly like the pteranidon.
This is arguably one of the most beautiful moments in film scoring history.
Too bad the dinosaurs and monkeys had to talk. It lessened the impact of the actual footage, graphics and scoring.
fkawenga, That’s how the movie was.

@@Fantasyfootballfry It doesn't matter! The Land Before time had dialogue, so why are you complaining?
One of the best scenes in Disney history.
Sophie Harding. yeah man.
The animation was really ahead of its time... i miss this movie.
That pterosaur is an amazing design for it's time
I believe that is a Geosternbergia.
@@kade-qt1zu you're right.
It is a Geosternbergia. It was often considered simply an earlier species
of Pteranodon itself.

Lara Duff Agreed
Lara Duff Yes, it is.

For a movie from the year 2000, this animation is amazing! The background music is great as well!
This is one of the most epic scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Not to mention it makes me wish, even more than usual, that I had the ability to fly.
I like to pretend that this is happening on Isla Sorna
haha, yeah. I can totally imagine that.
too bad none of those dinos save brachiosaurus were on Ingen's list :/
Hobbes neither was the Spino if ya know what I mean
Parasaurolophus and Ankylosaurus were.
That was on Isla nublar the ones on sorna are on their own
This scene has haunted me for pretty much the last ten years, cause I couldn't remember where it came from. I'm so glad that I found this.
Even though it doesn't affect me in any way, I'm glad you did. God, I love this scene.

One of my favorite scenes in movie history, it's just epic! I get excited like a little kid when I see this. James Newton Howard is a god.
Could not agree more with every word you said!
:)
Yes! Yes! Yes! He's a grossly underrated composer! This soundtrack is one of the highest quality pieces of music to ever exist among human kind.
John Williams is more of a god than Howard, he was won 5 oscars and has nominated more than 50
How about Hans Zimmer

whitewolf1310. yeah. like Bbc walking with Dinosaurs
whitewolf1310 I liked the talking though. I think them having dialogue is what made it more personal to the audience.
I would agree that the dialogue is not the best element of the film.

I think the ankylosaurs were Talarurus because Ankylosaurus was a much more bulky species.
+Andrew Caldera Now that I think of it, that actually seems rather plausible. I'll go ahead and change it.
+Andrew Caldera That said, what do you think Kron is? Could he be a different form of Iguanadid? I really don't know.
TheHero136 lol The rest were pretty spot-on though.
TheHero136 He's most likely an Altirhinus because of his nose crest.
