Me and this dude are on the wavelength. Just cut a blank dummy latch out of a none damaging material and leave it in all the time. Hell, cable it to the passenger seat frame so you can never loose it.

That's exactly the solution, I mean he said it himself, he rarely has passengers, just keep buckle clip always in and once somebody drives with him, just throw that thing into glove box... That solution is seriously stupid.
Put the pressure-piece in the seat, and just put a switch in the cable so you can turn it on or off (or between that and another sensor under the seat). Done. And looks 100x better and works more reliably.
Here's how to turn off the FJ beeping warning noise. I turned mine off for the exact same reason you mentioned. 1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car) 2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO" 3. Turn the ignition switch off 4. Turn the ignition switch on 5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more. 6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front drivers's side seat belt. 7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on") 8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off". 9. Turn the ignition switch off. Enjoy the silence!
Honestly he can just put the bag in the footwell or on the back seats...now it's gonna be so retarded if he has a passenger. "Would you like an airbag while we drive? Just pull out that pad under your seat. Make sure the wires are all plugged in. And place it on the seat and hey Presto...you have an airbag now"

Having the passenger air bag sensor the way you have decided to go is stupid. Why didn't you just install it and buy a spare seatbelt clip and leave it plugged in? That way you don't get beeped at when putting your camera gear on the seat and if you have a passenger they just unplug the clip and plug in the actual seat belt. This way your interior stays clean and doesn't look a mess and you don't have to sit on the pressure pad after fishing it out from under the seat
Was going to reply with this, this is way better idea than leaving the passenger a choise to not having the airbag (safety firsts) and you can leave the the seatbelt buckle all the time and when passenger needs it just take it out and buckle the whole belt. Hope he realy changes this
I bought a pair of Sparco seats for my WRX back in the day. I 'cheaped' out on the rails and got them from ebay. When I got them I noticed they were not pre-drilled for mounting. I was in Subaru car club at the time and new to working on cars. My buddies were working on their cars that weekend and told me to stop by. I was really excited to install the seats but bummed we had to figure out the drill points. They needed to be balanced and safe of course. My friends took tons of time with me making sure we installed them perfectly. Thinking back on that time working on my WRX with those guys makes me really happy. Thanks for this video and pulling me back in time. Love the channel.
You can disable the seat sensor on the passenger side in the FJ EASY. Just FYI. Seat belt chime 1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car) 2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO" 3. Turn the ignition switch off 4. Turn the ignition switch on 5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more. 6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front passenger's seat belt. 7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on") 8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off". 9. Turn the ignition switch off. 10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal. 11. Check that no buzzer sounds when setting on the front passenger seat.
@@fmmrz5 Sometimes you can get your dealer to do it for you through Techstream. Next time you're in for an oil change, just ask them to do it. If they won't, there's an app called Carista that works. You'll need the adapter piece and a subscription. I believe it's like 40$ for both the adapter and week long subscription but you can change a ton of little details.. Good luck!
Look into seat ocupancy sensor simulator for nissan. Ive used before on other nissans where the seat sensor has failed causing airbag light to stay on. They will permanently activate the passenger airbag eliminating that sensor. That way you dont have to worry about moving the seat sensor around for passengers. Congrats on the seat heaters!

well done for the seats. but maybe it would be a good idea to put an isolating layer between the foam and the heating system, just to prevent from premature wear due to overheating. i mean OEM seats were probably treated with fire retardant so that they won't burn from using heating system. i may be wrong but i think it works like this

Yeah, we’ve done it before just go to a breakers yard and cut a buckle off a seat belt. Insert the metal buckle clip into passenger seat belt holder problem solved.

Seems like a shame to go through all that effort on the heated seats and then just have the passenger sit on the freaking airbag sensor pad to get it to activate... which btw would mean your passenger would have to choose between an airbag and heated seats...
Uhhh. Why didn’t you just keep the passenger seat belt fastened when unoccupied to avoid the annoying seat belt earning chime, or better yet, just keep your backpack in the trunk? Not like you should be rummaging through your bag anyways while driving. That way you can install the pressure sensor properly, as well as the heating pads?
surely just leave the passenger seat belt bucked all the time. would solve the problem and having a passenger unbuckle the belt before getting in must be easier than remembering to tell them to put the sensor from under the seat back on top
I have seven years experience on Commercial aircraft main cabin and Premium Aircraft seats. You made two extremely dangerous assumptions: 1 that the foam in the Sparco seats has the same heat transfer characteristics and fire retardant properties as the OEM seat foams. It is possible the elements will overheat in the non-OEM foam hence potential fire hazard 2, you can use any old thing to stick seat foams and fabrics together, i.e., the adhesive spray has destroyed the fireblock on the Sparco foams.Seat foam fire retardancy and Smoke and Toxicity Certification is extremely difficult for OEM (Aircraft seat) designers to achieve, (the slightest change to material stack up can make a huge difference to the Burn/ Smoke and Toxicity properties of the seat). The compound risk is that in the first instance you have the potential to overheat the elements, secondly you have placed a flammable adhesive in close proximity to a heat source, I strongly advise leaving the heaters unplugged!
To be fair the only time they would catch fire is if the ignition was on with the heated seats and he left the car. They should have a thermostat built in anyway plus I'm pretty sure he would switch them off before they got hot enough to melt his balls.
CHRIS make sure that the Sparco seats CAN be heated. The foam used may not be the same as in the stock seats, and as Sparco's are not designed to be heated it is a big unknown factor. Call them to be sure, imagine the seats caching fire on the highway..

they are called hog rings and can be picked up at craft stores and amazon. the name of the tool is hog ring pliers and they are a cheap way to attach various types of upholstery and foam to a frame.

I really love your vids. But this time I really have to agree with most of the comments about your airbag hack. In my eyes this is the most amateurish solution you could possibly come up with. But you are not an amateur, are you?! Please don't mess with safety features and reconsider your decision! It doesn't even have to be your fault if you get into an accident and get someone killed. And you already lost your side airbags by removing the OEM seats... a no go on a daily driver - at least in my eyes. Airbags are there for a reason! There are a lot of examples in the comments how you can solve this problem easily. The easiest would be: Just throw your stuff on the floor instead of the passenger seat! The rings go through an embedded wire strand in the seat. Take the rings off and replace them with zips ties. I've done numerous heated seat conversions from old volvos where the seats were worthless to new seats

@@M1LAD81 He obviously can't. But an easy fix to get an old seat belt. Cut of the buckle and plug it in to the receiver. Keeps the warnings off and easily unplugged in a second for the passenger belt.
I was going to say what you could of done is hooked a switch up to the passenger side seat for the air bag detection where it would recognize it was connected but when you switch it off it doesn't bug you about putting on a seat belt.
Depending on the vehicle you can usually trick the car with a couple of resistors into believing there is a pressure pad, when it's just one wire that changes the resistance as pounds are added so if you have a 2 way switch on one leg having a low resistor connected do the wiring harness for the seat and a high resistor connected to the other side of a two-way switch, viola a standard passenger airbag switch.
Chris: Goes through the hazzle of taking a whole quarter panel off the right way (didn't just cut it off) and doesn't want to put an airbag sensor on a seat. You understand yourself man 😄
Dude, two ideas. 1st for the passenger pressure pad - figure out the voltage needed to tell the car the seat is empty and put a switch on it and install the pad in the seat. When you put stuff in the seat, hit the switch and fool the car to think seats empty. When their is a passenger flip it back. 2nd thing, heated seat Rocker switches, install them in the center console, either on the side below your leg or right in center in front of cup holders. How other cars are done from the factory.
@Bisforbuild You can install a switch, inbetween the sensor notifier, to arm the sensor or to not send information, that way, when someone sits on the seat, you can turn it on, if no one is there, you can just turn it off.. its more simple and a lot more tidy. Plus itll give you ease of mind. Just an idea
You are going to risk Chelsea's safety by not installing the pressure switch because you are too lazy to hook a switch to the seat to shut off the system when you have a bag in the seat you have to build a bracket for your seat heater you are already half way there

surely just leave the passenger seat belt bucked all the time. would solve the problem and having a passenger unbuckle the belt before getting in must be easier than remembering to tell them to put the sensor from under the seat back on top
Couldn't you just ground out the passenger airbag detector? That way its always armed.

I have seven years experience on Commercial aircraft main cabin and Premium Aircraft seats.
You made two extremely dangerous assumptions:
1 that the foam in the Sparco seats has the same heat transfer characteristics and fire retardant properties as the OEM seat foams. It is possible the elements will overheat in the non-OEM foam hence potential fire hazard
2, you can use any old thing to stick seat foams and fabrics together, i.e., the adhesive spray has destroyed the fireblock on the Sparco foams.Seat foam fire retardancy and Smoke and Toxicity Certification is extremely difficult for OEM (Aircraft seat) designers to achieve, (the slightest change to material stack up can make a huge difference to the Burn/ Smoke and Toxicity properties of the seat).
The compound risk is that in the first instance you have the potential to overheat the elements, secondly you have placed a flammable adhesive in close proximity to a heat source,
I strongly advise leaving the heaters unplugged!

To be fair the only time they would catch fire is if the ignition was on with the heated seats and he left the car. They should have a thermostat built in anyway plus I'm pretty sure he would switch them off before they got hot enough to melt his balls.

CHRIS make sure that the Sparco seats CAN be heated.
The foam used may not be the same as in the stock seats, and as Sparco's are not designed to be heated it is a big unknown factor. Call them to be sure, imagine the seats caching fire on the highway..

Hog rings and hog ring pliers are what you need. Very common upholstery tool.

i was wondering about the rear quarter panel fix, and i'm greatly anticipating that, but i COMPLETELY understand having to WAIT or the parts to arrive! i know exactly how aggravating THAT is when you're wantin to get something done
See if you can get a quick 3D print for toggle switches, can have the base screwed to the seat frame and bracket come out and hold the switch.
Should be a local shop or somebody that can print it for a couple dollars.
I saw the fender mirrors for the Z beside the fridge! You DEFEINITELY need to be adding those on soon.

they are called hog rings and can be picked up at craft stores and amazon. the name of the tool is hog ring pliers and they are a cheap way to attach various types of upholstery and foam to a frame.

I really love your vids. But this time I really have to agree with most of the comments about your airbag hack. In my eyes this is the most amateurish solution you could possibly come up with. But you are not an amateur, are you?!
Please don't mess with safety features and reconsider your decision! It doesn't even have to be your fault if you get into an accident and get someone killed. And you already lost your side airbags by removing the OEM seats... a no go on a daily driver - at least in my eyes. Airbags are there for a reason!
There are a lot of examples in the comments how you can solve this problem easily. The easiest would be: Just throw your stuff on the floor instead of the passenger seat! I mean... how difficult is that?!

The rings go through an embedded wire strand in the seat. Take the rings off and replace them with zips ties. I've done numerous heated seat conversions from old volvos where the seats were worthless to new seats

If it does, the alcohol evaporates as the adhesive dries, then it's all gone :)

@@M1LAD81 He obviously can't. But an easy fix to get an old seat belt. Cut of the buckle and plug it in to the receiver. Keeps the warnings off and easily unplugged in a second for the passenger belt.

I was going to say what you could of done is hooked a switch up to the passenger side seat for the air bag detection where it would recognize it was connected but when you switch it off it doesn't bug you about putting on a seat belt.

Depending on the vehicle you can usually trick the car with a couple of resistors into believing there is a pressure pad, when it's just one wire that changes the resistance as pounds are added so if you have a 2 way switch on one leg having a low resistor connected do the wiring harness for the seat and a high resistor connected to the other side of a two-way switch, viola a standard passenger airbag switch.
Chris: Goes through the hazzle of taking a whole quarter panel off the right way (didn't just cut it off) and doesn't want to put an airbag sensor on a seat.

Dude, two ideas. 1st for the passenger pressure pad - figure out the voltage needed to tell the car the seat is empty and put a switch on it and install the pad in the seat. When you put stuff in the seat, hit the switch and fool the car to think seats empty. When their is a passenger flip it back. 2nd thing, heated seat Rocker switches, install them in the center console, either on the side below your leg or right in center in front of cup holders. How other cars are done from the factory.

You can install a switch, inbetween the sensor notifier, to arm the sensor or to not send information, that way, when someone sits on the seat, you can turn it on, if no one is there, you can just turn it off.. its more simple and a lot more tidy. Plus itll give you ease of mind. Just an idea
Just dangerous..hopefully no one will hit you, and your camerabag from side..Those airbags are there for a reason.
You are going to risk Chelsea's safety by not installing the pressure switch because you are too lazy to hook a switch to the seat to shut off the system when you have a bag in the seat you have to build a bracket for your seat heater you are already half way there
