No one is talking about this nearly as much but it deserves a whole segment - CHRIS SHIFFLET is officially on backing vocal duties. Everyone is happy about a great capable drummer joining the Foos ranks but we have to give it to Shifty for covering the great voice of Taylor. Tough job, but happy he's up to the challenge.

@@cameronpritchett8300 You obviously don't know who Josh Freese is and you haven't heard him play in other bands. It's not for nothing that he's acknowledged as one of the greatest drummers of our time, who has been very busy as a session drummer and in a bunch of huge bands. I mean, are you listening to his drumming through your arse? No offense!
Now, if he's a temporary solution, that remains to be seen. But that has nothing to do with his drumming ability, it has more to do with what he himself wants to do.

I completely believe this is what Taylor would have wanted. The man had a deep love for music and he’d never want it to stop because he’s no longer here.
This was such a Foo’s way of introducing Josh. And I love their goofiness. They’ve always had fun and don’t care about others negativity. Plus Josh was good friends with Taylor as well as Dave so Dave knew he would fit. So I say rock on!

But I was also not OK with him not being in The Darkness anymore. I know you guys struggled to find the right drummer for a while there but Rufus seems to a perfect (and poetic) fit. Getting Freese works out perfectly, though. He was my second pick. I was at the first show of that tour and Dave told us: "This is our first night playing an arena show as a band!...." That night, they did what VH did opening for Sabbath in England.
The Chilli's had a, disappointingly, low energy set but the Foo's blew the roof off the joint and all 4 of us agreed they should have been closing the show instead of opening.
I can't believe it's been as long as 24 years. Thanks to Dave for reminding me of that night!
Any glowing memory from my past is so often hard to grasp, having to reach down and blindly fumble around in the muck, pull it to the surface and then cleaning it off before I can revel in it.
Having me a melancholy smile right now.
The first show I went to with my wife, other than when she came to my own - which wasn't quite the same because she was in the crowd and not at my side. It wasn't too much later that I lost her to a stretch of road on an early, October morning.
Seems like I'm remembering some other guy's life. It really does feel like I'm borrowing someone else's experiences. I can still see and hear Dave and the lad's in my mind's eye - still hear Dave saying making that announcement and turning to my wife and lead guitarist in amazement and saying, "No way?!"
Can't believe it's been so long since I've watched a Foos show in person.

I also went to see the Foos and Chilis around that time. Columbus, OH, but Dave got sick and so the Foos didn't play. Just like you experienced, the RHCP were surprisingly low energy, just going through the motions. It was very unmemorable other than the Foos canceling (and some fans were irritated because they couldn't get their money back because it wasn't a double bill. RHCP were the headliners, not the Foo Fighters, and you don't get refunds if only the opening band cancels).
I eventually saw it reported that Dave was out on the town the next night singing at a karaoke bar, which irritated me at the time. Though I guess it's pretty unreasonable that Dave would fake sickness 'to get out of work', lol. Years later he played with a broken leg, after all.

@@adamrob2990 TOTALLY. But for me it's about the band specifically, not the overall ability. It's a time feel thing - Rufus' best matched Taylor's, and thus the band's. But Josh is such a monster he's already bridging that time feel gap, so I'm sure it's going to be great.

Josh and Rufus were my top two, and I thought Rufus might be a better fit as he was more 'family', but I'm kind of glad it wasn't him as I love seeing him drum for The Darkness. I think the tribute concert showed just what a family of musicians there is, not seen anything like it since the Freddie Mercury tribute.

Josh Freese sounds fantastic but I loved the feeling Taylor brought to FF live. He was as likeable as Ringo. Josh will bring it musically but they have lost an important part of the band's live presence. An obvious comparison is The Who losing Keith Moon. Taylor Hawkins was one of the greatest showmen in Rock N' Roll, like few others today.
    He really is irreplaceable.
I'm so glad they are continuing and can not wait to see them live again in Europe but Taylor will be missed by the audience perhaps much more than anyone realises. He was the magic that really raised the experience of FF live above other bands of their generation.

Unfortunately both Keith Moon and T are examples of key band members who passed much too soon due to drugs. Should the reminding members all give up their musical passions, livelihoods, and one in a million success due to a band member’s passing?
So many bands have carried on after the drug related and also natural causes passings of a key band members: AIC, STP, RHCP, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more.
Should the other band members all give up their hard fought livelihoods that feed their families and their own musical dreams because of their band members’ passing due to drug and alcohol abuse?

@@isonation. You clearly didn't even read my comment in full. What about "I'm so glad they are continuing and can not wait to see them live again in Europe but Taylor will be missed...etc" suggests that I think they should retire?
My comment simply honoured Taylor Hawkins and pointed out that Taylor's absence will be felt, especially live, as he had such an upbeat positive presence and showmanship.

Ultimately, yes (the guy is a rock grunge drummer, he is a rolex with his timing). But the fans will go through an adjustment period. Hawkins played drums by ear, muscle memory, and feel. Josh has chops and perfect timing, but not so much lose feel in a live performance. The adjustment is similar to the one PJ fans had to do when Dave was booted and Matt came in.

Freese is one hell of a drummer, I thought for sure the godfather of dad rock The Don Grohl was going to make young Rufus an offer he couldn't refuse and maybe he did and maybe young rufus said "I must refuse as my mission as ordained by the gods of rock is to rock the socks off people with the bringers of the rockage The Darkness, and there are still some people out there who's stockings have not been sufficiently rocked off yet, their socks may have been loosened and possibly hang around their ankles in a Nora Batty fashion, but alas until all foot scarves have been blown away I must not and will not be tempted from my vocation"
    True story, look it up.
