  • Billy Walker, GlenAllachie Co-Owner and Master Distiller, reveals that he was not wanting to sell BenRiach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh and that buying GlenAllachie was a logical development from several circumstances. He also elaborates on the new expressions that will come out this summer and on his plans with the distillery.

These are the opportunities anyone at the peak of their craft must dream of! With all that previous experience in the industry it must be fantastic to buy an old distillery with heaps of various old stocks and then reshape it according to a new and original plan. And because you’re independent you’re not dependent on the decisions of a board of directors sitting somewhere in France, Japan or the USA. Good luck Mr Walker with the new venture! Cheers.

A very good interview. I was deeply disappointed with the sale of Benriach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh and I think those brands show signs of going downhill. I agree with Billy that Glenglassaugh was unfinished business. I'm writing this at the time of the launch of the new Glenallachie releases and there's a lot of sherry going on. It's early days and I think Billy Walker is a star in the whisky firmament so I'll be trying some of them. It's early days but I'll be looking forward to some sherry free ex-bourbon and peated expressions in the future.

Billy made my first single malt: Glendronach 12 back in 2013 I believe. I was so enthralled by the smell of that the first time I nosed it.

Please note that GlenAllachie 12 year is Ralfy's choice for whisky of the year 2019.

Sehr interessant - und man merkt schon, obwohl er sehr zurückhaltend ist, daß er gar nicht einverstanden war mit dem Verkauf. Typisch britisch halt.

A pain? Yeah, right. A pain in the pocket trying to carry all that cash!
Hey, Billy. Have you enough wine casks to doctor up mediocre whisky and pass it off as primo stuff? How much longer until you pump and dump GlenAllichie?
Who are you kidding, old boy???
