  • If you refrigerator is not cooling enough and taking longer to cool off the food than it used to, there is one easy common fix you can do to remedy the problem. If your fridge is not working at all, this won't work but if you feel that it is simply not working as well as it used to, give this a try! Clean the front toe kick panel and then the condenser coil in the back. I go over all this in the video and show you an example of how to apply this most common fix to a Frigidaire side by side fridge that seemed to be turning on more often than it used to.

    I just wanted to thank you for helping me make an informed decision. I've been watching your videos. I did plumbing, and it wasn't much of a challenge to me, so I switched to HVAC, and I love the challenges it has. I can't see myself doing anything else now. I think it's important to have a goal too when deciding to go into a career. I think my goal is to work for the government at some point. I have a friend who worked for the government as an HVAC tech. But I'm not sure until I become a journeyman first.

    I have a GE fridge and I hate it because the coils are on the bottom and are very hard to get to. To properly clean them, I have to empty the fridge and tilt it over to access the coils. I didn’t have a proper brush, so I used a soft, dry rag and a coat hanger straightened out and a little hook formed on the end, so I wouldn’t lose my rag underneath the fridge, then instead of emptying the fridge, I just shoved the coat hanger with the rag underneath the fridge and knocked off a bunch of dust clumps and the fridge started getting colder again. When I buy a new fridge, the first question that I will ask is “where are the coils located ?”, if they are on the bottom, I will never buy it. Those coils are “very important” to running your fridge to it’s maximum potential, if they are dirty, it will most likely be the reason for your fridge not getting cold and running all the time. There are other reasons to, like a bad thermostat and others, but dirty coils are the most common problem.

    I have cleaned mine from the front, but not often. Because I have cats, I should do it more often. I cleaned it from the back, once, many years ago. Clearly I need to do that again. I had a coil brush, but haven't seen it in years. I'll just get another one, at which time I'll surely suddenly find the old one. Better two than none! I sure hope the thorough cleaning will get my fridge cooling much better, down to a safe temp. Will I be lucky enough for my bottom freezer to start freezing again, instead of being like a second fridge? I guess we'll see. Thanks for the push that I've needed to get going on that cleaning. Have a wonderful Sunday Jay!

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  Год назад +2

      Glad to hear the video got you motivated! I agree, with cats the coil would get dirty much faster. The brush should be around $10 but it really helps with the cleaning! I support the idea of getting one before proceeding with the cleaning. 😄 I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you really do find the old brush right afterwards, that seems to happen all the time! I hope this will do the trick for you and the freezer will be much cooler. Have an amazing Sunday as well!!

No steps to deal with straight out to the patio and use the exhaust outlet and hose from the vacuum cleaner to blow out the dust and pet hairs. The only brush I had was a bottle brush that was hard to reach in some places. It certainly helped cleaning it out.

    If you have a heavy fridge, or one that is a pain to remove, a leaf blower on low will get rid of a lot of dust. But as you said,. then there is dust everywhere. But if you do that and a shop vac, some dust cleaning is better than scratching up floors or trying to man handle a large fridge

    Hello Jay! Here is a story I wrote about this issue way back in April 2018:
    Our refrigerator was making noise so I decided the solution was to clean the coils. I pulled the fridge out of its cubby such that the rear faced the dining room and computer station.
    I unscrewed the rear bottom section and vacuumed the coils there. I still saw a lot of fuzz under the fridge. So I went to the front and attempted to vacuum there. That proved ineffective as one really cannot get the vacuum in there at all.
    I quickly thought of a plan: I grabbed the leaf blower from the garage, brought it into the kitchen, plugged it in, and set it on maximum as shoved it into the bottom front of the fridge. That should clean it, right???
    Unbeknownst to me, a huge plume of dust and debris was being shot out from the rear bottom of the fridge covering both the dining room table, my son Grant who was playing on the computer, and my wife who was sitting at the table. It was like a mini-Mount Vesuvius erupting in the house.
    My wife was frantically yelling 'STOP! STOP!" - but the leaf blower was much too loud in that confined space for me to hear her.
    I shut the leaf blower off and looked under the fridge - and WOW - it was fully clear of all dust!
    I got up and peeked around the fridge to tell my wife of my success.
    Suffice to say, my wife was not as impressed by my cleaning solution as I was - and she stood in a slowly falling cloud of dust.
    This is a true story - not my usual April Fools day story joke.
    The real April Fool's joke is on my wife Jennifer who has to live through this stuff on a near daily basis!
    HA! HA! HA!

    I'm thinking about wrapping the kick plate in one layer of cheese cloth or tulle fabric. Maybe that will trap most of the dust (and cat hair) before it gets all the way under the fridge and back to the coils. Maybe it will be easier to clean that way. Please tell me if this is a bad idea. Thanks, Jay!

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  Год назад +5

      That's a good thought but I wouldn't recommend doing that since generally the kick plate is a vent/exhaust for the warm air. The back of the fridge is where it sucks the air in. Putting a cloth over the kick panel would cause the bottom of the fridge to get warmer than it should be which isn't a desirable outcome.
