Does you’re J48 ever clip? I had this issue using bkp juggernauts and fishmans. When I used the -15db pad it turned the signal into a mushy quality like sound.
Yes they clip depending how you play, have the same problems,( hot pickup's),and yes if using the pad it does sound that way, countryman 10 or 85 no clipping better signal than radial.

These are active pickups , i wonder if you faced any trouble gain staging with Active DI Box
Until now there's no issue like this in my case. Just set the volume at a proper level and it should be fine.

difference is in mid frequencies, around 500-700 hz, DI seems cuts the highs or bumps the mids.
