  • Here’s my 1000 point, 13 order dice, Waffen SS Army for Bolt Action. The models are mostly from Warlord Games with a few Stoessi’s Heroes character figures and Tamiya 1/48 vehicles. I painted this Army a few months ago, but only got my iPad sorted out recently. I’m hoping to put more videos up soon and, hopefully, a little more regularly. Thanks for watching and keep those brushes moving. 👍🏻

    Lovely painting as usual. I am interested in the small units having all the LMGs. I do it the other way, put the LMGs with the larger squads and put all the assault rifles, smgs and flamer with the small units. That way when they debus I can race them forward and dish out mayhem, while the LMGs provides cover from distance

    • @jvcpaints
      @jvcpaints  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks. The idea with LMGs in the Hanomags is that I get get them into positions to do cover fire and throw some pins down range while I bring the other guys up in cover. I've been somewhat successful doing it with Bren Carriers with the extra pintle mount and 5 man sections with 2 Brens. If you get lucky with the dice drawn and when you roll, you can catch an enemy unit in the open and really do some damage. But, I'll see how they play. Getting 5 guys with Stgs up front and close might be good too.

      It does OK. A lot of times my dice seem to run out of gas around turn 4, but it does lay down the hurt. The Panzerfauste keep armor away and the guys all being vets makes them really difficult to kill with non HE weapons. The Fallschirmjager are another great army to use aggressively. The chaplain is a lot of fun to use too. He's a great fire magnet.

      Sorry it took me so long to respond. Apologies. The Schwimmwagen, the bike and the two Hanomags are all Tamiya. They are from their 1/48 range. The Hanomags might be difficult to find as I think they are OP now. They are the Rommel Grief ones. The officer in the trench coat and Skorzeny are Stoessi's heroes. All the other figures are Warlord. The paints are Americana acrylic paints. They are craft paints. In North America you can buy them at Michael's Craft store and they are super cheap. They have more colors than the GW range for sure. Dreamcoat is another brand that is good. I buy them at the hardware store here.
      Again, sorry for taking ages to respond. Merry Christmas.

It's a great suggestion, but I broke my right hand about a month ago so painting now is a real time limited endevour. Once my hand is all sorted out, I might do one for another SS panzer Army I'm thinking of doing.

    Cool, going for more dice. Please tell me about 0:50 the way you deal with troops in houses.
    If their troops move from one floor to the other, do you need to range it in again?

    • @jvcpaints
      @jvcpaints  3 года назад +1

      If the lt.howitzer is firing direct, then the building is the target so there is no modifier to hit if they change levels in the building. If the lt.howitzer is firing indirect, it's still targeting the building so if they change floors you don't need to range in again. But, the shell on an indirect shot might explode when it hits the roof, or on the next floor down, or the next floor down or the next floor down, etc. On which level the shell goes off is randomized, so they might get lucky and have the shell explode on a different level. If you can fire direct at a building, do it. It's a 3 to hit or a 4 for long range. You could possibly get a hard cover modifier if you can only see the corner or something.
      Good luck mashing your opponents and thanks for watching the video.

    Hi how to do you count up how many points each unit costs??

    • @jvcpaints
      @jvcpaints  3 года назад

      Thanks for checking out the video. In the base rule book, army books and theater books, there are army lists to tailor your army to a place or battle during the war. The basic point values remain constant, so an inexperienced guy is 7 points, a regular guy is 10 points and a veteran guy is 13 points. A Submachine gun is 3 points, a light machine gun is 20 points a panzerfaust is 5 points. There are limits on weapons per squad, so you can have one or two light machine guns or a max of 4 panzerfausts. So, a 10 man squad of regular guys (100 points), with one light machine gun (20 points), 3 sub-machine guns (9 points) and 2 panzerfausts (10 points) is 139 points total.
      The easiest way to make an army list is at wg.easyarmy.com There you can tweak lists and see the different points costs. A good way to spend an hour or two planning out an army.
      Good luck building up an army to crush your friends! I hope this helped. :)

      I used a variant of it and dropped it to 11 dice beefing up some of the units and losing the transports. It did well until turn 3 and then I got double flamed by my opponent and my officer got sniped losing the center of the board. It was dice rolls that cost me the game. The chaplain did pretty good taking off some sneaky pins.

    Where are the rules for the ss chaplain?

    • @jvcpaints
      @jvcpaints  4 года назад +2

      I'm using the rules for the German chaplain. (I went Reinforced platoon instead of a 100% historic list) I believe the rules for the chaplain is in the Battle of the Bulge book(?) When I use easyarmy.com, the special rules print out at the bottom of the army list. The rules for the chaplain (I believe) are he can use an advance or a fire order and take a pin off of a unit within 6'' on a roll of 4+ (Vets get a +1, so 3. Inexp get a -1, so 5). He still has to activate if he has pins. Whether he can take Pins off of himself - I don't know. He's Veteran, 25 points, 26 if you give him a pistol for self-defense. I played him in a game this past weekend, but I didn't use him as the flank I sent him on was quickly won by me around Turn 3 or 4. The idea was to have him take pins off of the Regular Infantry I was using, getting them down to 1 pin, so they would pass their order with the Lt. nearby and then do their move, or clear the pin and just have them do their order. But, the expert machine gunning from my truck and my opponent's fluffed rolls kept the chaplain out of the action.
      Sorry for the waffle. lol
