I went to school, being stupid, and I came out of school, being stupid. And that's the joke :D
These 2 comedians were so brilliant..and notice the quick ad-libs at 0:49 when Costello attempts to write 7, stating "There's the 7" and it doesn't come out and Abbott immediately throws in "Where is it?" , to which Costello adds "right there" when he does get the chalk to write-Abbott then follows with" Alright"- All of this in an instant..They were seasoned pros who knew how to continue without losing a beat. .What perfect chemistry.

My math teacher (who was a big theater nerd as well) let me do this bit with him in my senior year of high school for an extra credit quiz grade. It was the easiest credit I ever got and probably the only time I didn't fail a math quiz.

Then the guy just says “ YOU’RE HIRED “. This was the great days of clever and clean comedy and no use for cursing and racial slurs. Just good old fashioned jokes configured in a clever manner that made people laugh and smile. I love these old clips.

Okay….this appeared in a 1946 movie. So the skit predates that. These guys were sooooo ahead of their time. If you take “Who’s on First” (1940), these guys were kings!! Hands down. Should we include the “Loaffer”’s skit?
This was from their movie little giants and they next made the movie the time of their lives with part of the movie set in 1780. These two movies were some of the best movies they made. It's two bad they were in a feud during this time. But thankfully they reconciled and remained friends. Rest in peace Mr Bud Abbott and Mr Lou Costello.
I got my algebra 2 teacher with this one. (Younger math teacher) He spent thirty minutes fascinated by the math not teaching until an older teacher walked in an commented he didnt know my teacher like Abbott and Costello.

Basically, his result should have been (1+3), not 1 followed by 3
