As I recall JRM didn't suggest that Grenfell residents had ignored safety advice, but said that they should have ignored the fire brigade's safety advice to stay put and await rescue. He said they should have had the common sense to leave the building. A very unfeeling comment, suggesting that the victims only had themselves to blame. He was involved with a hedge fund that moved to Dublin after Brexit and has since closed down I believe, yet he told everyone that Brexit would be great. JRM when challenged on his TV show has often revealed his ignorance but many people don't realise it because he speaks 'properly' like a toff and with such confidence and not usually in a situation where someone more knowledgeable has challenged him.

I’ll let the rest of the UK that is outside the rolling green hills of Somerset into a secret. I live in one of Rees-Mogg’s adjoining constituencies and my friends that live there have told me he is now despised. He has done nothing whatsoever for his constituents, he has done absolutely zero to help the two main towns there, Radstock and Midsomer Norton, to the point that they are run-down, deprived, boarded up town centres (especially Midsomer, where a huge former coaching inn has been empty and boarded up for decades, and has small trees growing out from the top of the walls.)
He is so hated that last year he indulged in a spot of gerrymandering, redrawing the boundaries of his constituency in anticipation for this year’s election. He had Radstock and Midsomer Norton removed from his constituency, but he had to have new populous areas added instead. Bath is its own separate constituency due to the massive number of Uni students, so he had to find other areas.
But he’s so out of touch with his own area and it’s demographics that he added Hanham and Longwell Green, two very working class areas of outer Bristol, and areas of Keynsham, a town located on the outer edge of Bristol with a very sad town centre of charity shops and phone shops.
His constituency is now called “Northeast Somerset and Hanham”, and it would now be mainly composed of young family Labour supporters.

Professor, good day to you and yours. The medieval period people are worried. They don’t want him to lose as they most definitely don’t want him back. Isn’t there an empty house he could be employed to haunt somewhere. Yes I know the house of commons will be empty of the tories after July 4th but that doesn’t count.

There still seems some inborn deference to Tory toffs in rural areas "God bless the Squire and his relations/And keep us in our proper stations!" A conversation I heard in a Dorset pub may shed some light: "I don't like 'em (Tories) I don't like 'em at all! Oh, I'll vote for 'em, but I don't like 'em!"

Dear Professor, It was only a few short years ago that JRM was the toast of all the political pundits and spoken of as a future Prime Minister. Such is the fickle nature of British politics. His type of anti-European right wing Conservative policies have been brought down by the realisation amongst the ordinary voter that Brexit was far from a solution to the woes of UK domestic economics but merely a smokescreen to obscure the underlying financial weakness and domestic chaos that remains unresolved when a former empire comes slowly to an end. If Gibbons were alive today woud he not write "The fall of the British Empire"

To be fair, Farage did almost sweet FA as a MEP. He'll not turn down his Euro pension ( paid, not by the E U but by us, the UK) despite his loathing of the EU.
