Finally, an interview with some real depth about Paul from that period. Ian is knowledgeable both about the music and the circumstances of what was going on. I think this book may reveal more of the "inner Macca." It's a pleasure when interviewer & interviewee are knowledgeable & insightful!
Great interview Tone - nearly as good as the one we did together haha. Great to hear some discussion about the 2000's Macca albums, as I think I've mentioned before, Memory Almost Full is my favourite Paul album (subject to change!), and Chaos isn't far behind, so great to hear them getting some recognition in this video. Was especially pleased you asked Ian about Twin Freaks, another great album! I'm starting to realise the 2000s have been more successful for Paul than I give him credit in my mind for. Will be interested to have a read of Ian's book, will see about picking it up in the UK for the plane ride back - Amazon AU have bumped the price up by about £7, so might get it while I'm over there. Looking forward to having a read about the most under-reported period of Paul's career!
Well our interview was special my old china. I agree I think the noughties are very under-valued for Macca's music - it's one of his strongest. Im not sure we can count Twin freaks as a Paul album but it's different and fun for sure. I learnt a lot from this book, some stuff was new to me and some I'd just forgotten about . You will enjoy it
I loved your interview with your guest talking about his book on Sir Paul Beatley Tone I enjoyed it alot learned alot about Paul's later albums and his musical career. Always nice to learn something new! Your a great interviewer Tone take care!
Very interesting. The book covers a very sad personal time for Paul where he released a bunch of really good albums, but went through quite a few personal crises. I`m glad you speak well of "Driving Rain". It`s a decent album. "Magic" is a very moving tribute to Linda. If i have one criticism of the album, it is that it`s too long. There`s too many tracks. "Chaos and creation in the back yard" is a really great album, and "Memory almost full" is a true gem. I also like the double live album he released from his comeback tour in 2002/2003. His voice on this tour was really good, and i think he did killer versions of "Michelle" "She`s leaving home" "Hello, goodbye" and "Mother`s nature son". "Getting better" sounds amazing too. I don`t know how people rate this album now, but i think it`s a good live album. I got to see Paul on his 04 Summer tour. He sounded terrific there, and the setlist was very good. This was a very nice conversation about an important period of Paul`s life.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the interview. I think the main 3 albums during this period (excluding Electric Arguments) are all better than any of the albums he made during the next decade. I cant talk for all fans about which live album is best but I have done a mini-series on the channel ranking all his live albums including the Back in the World/US albums and the comments on those videos will give you an idea what fans think of his live albums
Great interview mate, fascinating to hear the writer talk freely about his work. Your relaxed style worked really well. I've ordered the book after watching. Congrats Parky! 😂
You need to do more interviews. I still think you should ask MPL to send you McCartney things to review. I have a contact for UK promotions. I don't know how to get that to you though. If you want that let me know it's a good thing to see you interview people that when you are so interested in the subject matter it makes for a good time when you speak to someone about their work. Keep that going. Mac interview next week I suppose? Should be so.
Well Ive got a couple more interviews lined up before Christmas so we'll see how it goes, but Im glad you enjoyed this one. . As I've said to you before, Im not asking for freebies from anyone and to be honest I dont think MPL do this for You tubers but I appreciate the sentiment from you
You’re a natural at this interviewing stuff mate, good stuff. This book wasn’t particularly on my must read list , but you’ve piqued my interest. Still not convinced about Driving Rain though😂
Thanks very much Jason, nice of you to say although I think im still a bit too 'errr, errr, yer know, yer know' for my liking. Trust me on Driving Rain - it's golden ....in parts 😂
@ ok I need to confess, I just pulled out my vinyl Driving Rain and listened to it with headphones - I found it to be a completely different listening experience than CD. It’s still a bit of a slog by side 4, but much more enjoyable than I remembered.
Wonderful interview. Ordered the book on the strength of this. But….im so interested in the 80s and there isn’t much written on that…. What do you recommend on macca in the 80s (I have Luca)
Thanks very much Nick, glad you enjoyed the interview. Ian was a great guest. Enjoy the book when it arrives. I cant think of a book that concentrates in the 80s period especially with regard to Paul's personal goings on as well as the music. As you say, Luca's book 'Music is Ideas Part 1' covered the musical side but I think you're/ we're going to have to wait until we get The McCartney Legacy Vol 3 to get the rest of the 80s story. Enjoy Ian's book when it arrives
Thanks Gents - I’ve ordered the book. “India” was performed in his secret online gig (requiring password) at this time when the new fangled internet was “new”. It’s available on RUclips and would be a great audio inclusion on an archive Driving Rain edition.
Excellent indepth interview on one of McCartney's less prominent periods (not counting his live performances). Memory Almost Full is my personal favorite from this period. Chaos contained some good songs but is way too overproduced and contain too many ballads IMHO. If his band had backed him it would most likely have ranked higher in my personal list of McCartney albums.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the interview and your thought's on Chaos . yes it's ballad heavy but utterly brilliant ballads in my opinion, but disagreeing is what makes talking about this stuff interesting

@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Personally i enjoy the Back in the world live album. Paul is in good vocal shape there, and the setlist is pretty good.

Fantastic interview, wish it was longer. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Christopher - Thank you
Your a great interviewer Tone

Yes and not covered by other books
Great interview Tone

An enjoyable episode about a neglected decade. Ian is a good guest, and has targeted an interesting decade in Paul's life.
Glad you enjoyed this episode
