    2 things:
1: the Switch related gift I've given twice are the Hori SplitPad Pro. It's mainly just cause a lot of people i know have gotten Joycon Drift and it's an absolute pain to fix. (ive done it thrice for others) The SplitPad allows me to have that peace of mind when playing portably so I dont have to worry about drift and theyre also wildly comfortable. You mentioned the grip for your joycons, but i find the SplitPad to be even more comfortable. If you're worried about third party controllers, just know that everyone i know who has them loves them, Hori is a reputable company, and they're also licensed by Nintendo.
2: The Switch Pro Controller is easy to customize unless youre me and both screws immediately got stripped. So yeah heads up when trying to mod a pro controller, the screws Ninendo uses are extremely fragile, so very careful with the screws or you'll be... screwed.

I also highly recommend the split pad. They feel so much better than the joycons

I use a Skull&Co grip shell that's always on my switch, makes holding it much better, and I got one of their cases so it fits in fine, never need to take them off.

The absolute gamechanger for me has been the CRKD Nitro Deck. It took me a minute to get used to it because I was so used to handheld with regular joycons. The Nitro Deck is awesome, plus the joystick design they use has no chance of ever having drift. It's just a great product.

The PowerA Gamecube Controller Bluetooth 5.0 is my absolute go to controller, it has all the features a normal gamecube controller has, and its wireless.

As far as 3rd party controllers go I like 8bitdo’s ultimate and pro 2. Both are reasonably priced and feel quality. The ultimate is the same price as a pro controller but comes with a charging dock and the pro 2 has a nice retro design and I prefer the placement of the d pad for 2d/retro games. Only downsides are neither have nfc so they won’t work with amibos and the pro 2 won’t wake the switch.

I can't play switch in handheld without a grip of some sort. It hurts my hands because the there's nothing to hold onto in the back. I recently received the ZenGrip Ronin Slim Bundle, which is the same kind of Satisfye grip I loved, but it fits in the Switch dock and comes with a case that fits the whole grip+console.

Wow lots of accessories there. I really like products by Skull and Co. I have a case for the Rog Ally by them and Stick covers for Switch oled, Switch lite, ps5, Rog Ally and xbox controller. They have really good grip and you get several defferent ones in a set. Check them out some time.

Im on the fence about what kind of grip id like to use, but i play handheld a lot and notice my hands will start to go numb. The only ones ive seen so far were the kind of grips that slide onto the entire switch, not onto the joycons like yours.

If you're traveling with the slim switch case, where do you put the charging cable? I use the case from inateck. It holds everything switch related I own (games, charger, controller) except the dock itself which I don't use while traveling
