    I’ve lived in Jersey all my life, Bergen County. Once you do not need the commute it’s better to move down southern Jersey.
    The biggest problem with Jersey is that the state has a lot of wealthy people living in it.
    Northern NJ is the wealth, commuters, traffic, buses, run down, old East Coast feel. Everything is old and many towns are only for the filthy rich. Bergen County!
    The state is split into Northern / Southern
    Northern BLUE money, commuters, wealth, younger people, expensive everything, rent average $1,500 rental on a home, $2,500 average property taxes $10,000 yearly
    Southern RED:
    Lots and lots of retirement centers
    Beach areas bought out by the wealthy, lots of MacMansions
    The average person cannot afford to even rent a Summer anything. Just day trips or an overnight.
    The only real areas that an average person can afford to buy a home is the area closest to the Delaware River water gap.
    They are mostly towns that offer little services and as a result desolate or sparsely populated.
    Once in the most Southern part of the state places like Cape May and surrounding areas offer some affordable living but you hv to accept the occasional flooding.

    If you're still of working age, it's a great state. Beaches, mountains, restaurants, NYC, Philadelphia, great schools, everything close by. The bad is taxes, high cost of living, sometimes crappy spring/fall weather, hurricanes and flooding. But still a great state.

  • @eyalbarmitzvah
    @eyalbarmitzvah 2 года назад +4

    Let's be honest new York is not there anymore. Catch a Broadway show? Sure if you can spend a few thousand. Education not really the schools suck. I guess the full service gas is nice. The jersey shore is not so nice with the permits you need to buy to go to the beach. So all those great reasons to be in Jersey are not so great.

      It's a matter of perspective and priorities. The higher property taxes come with better roads and infrastructure, excellent schools, and fantastic public transportation, among other things. I spent a lot of my life in a southern state with very LOW property taxes, but as a result, the state essentially put no efforts into improving anything. Horrible school systems, roads that were literally falling apart, severely outdated infrastructure, absolutely zero public transportation, no government assistance for those in need, I could go on all day. The point is having lived there for well over 20 years, I can safely say the lower property taxes always come at a cost.

      You don’t have to pay property taxes if you’re renting but, because of high property taxes, the cost of renting increases. Say a one bedroom apartment in north Jersey can cost about $1300/month with basic amenities. If you want an apartment that has parking, washer/dryer, etc., then it can go for at minimum of $1600 for a one bedroom.
