Project | Building a Violin : Part 7, the outline

  • In part seven I'm cutting out the top and back plates and getting them to the final outline. This is a slow and challenging process, the corners are particularly tricky. The goal is to make them look good but also to establish a cohesive shape for entire violin and have them match each other.

    lovely work there Mike, what are the files you are using there,, i see them being used on violins but cant find them to buy..

      Most of the files I'm using are Grobet files, I think you can find them on Amazon... of course Amazon has all the stuff. I use #0, #1, #2 and #4 files.

      Hello! Thank you for your comment.
      Because I am an amateur and I can only work on it in my free time, it will likely take me 6 months or more to build. A professional violin maker, who builds them full time can certainly do the work much faster, maybe in a few weeks or a month. I don't know for sure, but on average maybe something like 200-300 hours.
