Project | Building a Violin : Part 7, the outline
In part seven I'm cutting out the top and back plates and getting them to the final outline. This is a slow and challenging process, the corners are particularly tricky. The goal is to make them look good but also to establish a cohesive shape for entire violin and have them match each other.
Enjoy!

Project | Building a Violin : Part 6, the tonewood
Просмотров 3484 месяца назад
In this installment, I'll be prepping the tonewood for making the violin top and back plates. The beautiful figured maple has some issues, but overall this step went pretty well. Enjoy!
Project | Building a Violin : Part 5, the garland
Просмотров 8004 месяца назад
In part five I'll be finishing the rib garland. Bending the remaining rib stock for the upper and lower bouts, making and installing the rib linings. Once this part is complete the outline of the violin is established and I can begin working on the tonewood for the top and back plates. Enjoy!
Project | Building a Violin : Part 4, the C-bouts
Просмотров 4504 месяца назад
In part four I'll be bending and gluing in the "C-bout" ribs, and trimming the blocks to their final shape. The bending can be a bit stressful as there's a possibility of breaking them in the process. First I'll need to bend and glue in the center ribs, then I can finalize the shape and dimensions of the blocks. Enjoy!
Project | Building a Violin : Part 3, the ribs
Просмотров 3514 месяца назад
In this third part I'm preparing the rib stock for making the violin outline. The ribs need to be thinned to roughly 1.1mm thick. The figured wood can make this a bit tricky as it likes to chip or tear out as the grain direction changes. Once they're thicknessed, they're layed out and cut to length for bending. Enjoy!
Project | Building a violin : Part 2, the blocks
Просмотров 4185 месяцев назад
In part two I'll be making the blocks, gluing them to the form and beginning to shape them. These blocks are used to attach the ribs (sides) around the form once they're carved to shape. The ribs are glued to the blocks, and then the basic outline of the violin body is done. The first step is to shape the "C-bouts" and glue in the center ribs, then the upper and lower bouts follow. Enjoy!
Project | Building a violin : Part 1, the form

I'm going to attempt to build a violin. It's an incredibly daunting project so I'm probably in over my skis...but why not give it a try? This is part one of...many I'm sure, it's quite a big project to take on. In this part I'm building the form. It's based off of the "Forma P" made in 1705 by Antonio Stradivari. I adjusted the outline a tad to make it symmetrical. Enjoy!
Project One | Platform Bed Build
Просмотров 756 месяцев назад
In this video I'm building a platform bed for my guest room out of common 2x6 lumber. I'm not much of a woodworker, or a videographer, but perhaps if I'm lucky, doing these projects will give me the opportunity to get better at both. Dzień dobry proszę pana, mam pytanie, ile czasu zajmuje zrobienie takich skrzypiec ? Dziękuję za odpowiedź i pozdrawiam.

Hello! Thank you for your comment. Because I am an amateur and I can only work on it in my free time, it will likely take me 6 months or more to build. A professional violin maker, who builds them full time can certainly do the work much faster, maybe in a few weeks or a month. I don't know for sure, but on average maybe something like 200-300 hours.

Hello @kierannolan8859 thank you! Most of the files I'm using are Grobet files, I think you can find them on Amazon... of course Amazon has all the stuff. I use #0, #1, #2 and #4 files.

Hi Mike. I'm watching videos of him building the violin. I'm excited to see the next episodes. I'm also getting ready to build a violin. Where did you purchase this Forma P 1705 model? Thanks

Hi @MrSpeedeagle! The next episode is taking a while, it's a bit more complex and takes more time but I should have it ready soon! You can download several Stradivari form (and other) templates here: www.thestradsound.com/maestronet/stradivari-forma-by-addie I wish you the best of luck in your violin build, it's challenging but I'm really enjoying it. Thanks!

Hi Mike, I'm an aspiring violinmaker in Texas. I haven't made my first yet, I'm in the furious research stage of being a beginner. Just wanted to say I'm enjoying following along with your process. I really like the way you're filming these. The editing and camera work is good, and the simple subtitles instead of narration feels really zen. I'm digging it!

Thank you Brian! There is a great deal to learn and research for sure, I'm a beginner myself and may not provide the best example but hopefully it will encourage you in your efforts and you'll be successful! Also thank you for your comment about the video and editing, another thing I'm in the process of learning as well. Best of luck to you! If you would like to see a real violin maker doing things properly, I would recommend watching Davide Sora's channel, it's incredibly helpful and he generously shows the process in great detail. www.youtube.com/@DavideSora
