Just got this bike, my first MX bike. I spent last season which was my first season ever riding, on a 2019 CRF250F and let me tell you, HUGE difference. I love riding on a track more so than trails and I was pushing the F model well beyond its limits. I hopped on the 250r and other than the change in seat height (I’m only 5’ 7) I felt way more comfortable. The power is there where as the F just didn’t have enough to get me out of a corner and over the following doubles at my local track. This video helped me choose to continue to ride red so thank you. Awesome bike! Now it’s time for some FMF pipes!
Great video, very well explained. 🙂 Always been a big Honda fan. Waiting for my 2020. Will be coming soon. 😁 . My previous bike was a ‘09 250R honda. And I only ride as a hobby. So I guess it will be far more enjoyable on this one.
I took one on a test ride and I found it great. I'm a Yamaha guy and I found all it needed was a bigger sprocket on the back. The suspension was alright i just found it a little soft but that might be shower forks but I loved it
Soft suspension on a 250 is usually the case but it's still pretty good. I agree, the bike is really good. I wonder if a tooth in the rear would be good or take away too much top end speed. It would be a good test. Thanks for watching! - Chase
c walsh People learned me that a 250R is actually a great bike for learning how to ride when you put it on the soft map. I learned to ride with a ‘09 Honda 250R without all these mappings and tech. But ofcourse you gotta feel safe and comfortable.
Does the crf250r feel as planted as the yami does though? I did like that about the 250f when I test rode it. Idk I think I will end up going with Honda, would you say they are just as reliable as the yami as long as you keep up on maintenance?
Absolutely. Any Honda i've ever owned has been very reliable. My first bike, a 2014 CRF450R, I put 130 hours on it and just changed the oil and filters. As far as planted, it's really close. The Yamaha might have a very slight advantage but the Honda wins in the cornering category and is easy to change direction. It just feels more playful which many riders have said in shootouts. And the motor is good. - Chase
These two bikes are very different. Different chassis, suspension, motor etc. But this bike will be better than the 16 in every way. Does that mean you NEED to upgrade? No, but this 250 is easily one of the best bike i've ridden this year. - Chase
Man, that is a tough choice because both are soooo good. For me, I like the Honda just a little more. Doesn't have the initial hit of the Yamaha, but it revs high and I think it's the best cornering bike out there and has a lighter feel. Both have awesome suspension and are very well balanced. The Honda, for me, just felt so good right away. Either way, you're going to love it. Hope this helps - Chase
would this be a good bike for me? around 6 months of experience on a 125 4 stroke and i’m really good at riding, i’ve always been good at riding, i learned how to ride in like 2 days.
Hey I’m looking to buy a second hand 250 race less the 5 grand. Would you have any suggestions in what I should buy second hand that will last me a long time?
Any 250 is a good bike. Just depends on how it was taken care and maintained by the previous owner. 5K will probably get you a 250 roughly 3-5 years old and depending on the hours it has, I'd be asking if they've had a top end or bottom end done, when they last greased the linkage, swing arm, steering stem and other pivot points. Check the spokes and make sure there are none broken, check the rims for any really bad dents or cracks. As long as they've done regular maintenance, then you should be alright.
Ummm, I think it depends a lot on your skill level. A 250 will get you around but how fast? That is the question. Are there a lot of hills where you ride? If I were your weight, I would definitely probably go up to a 450 FX or RX. - Chase
Thank you very much for your reply. Yes I’m a skilled rider and there are a lot of hills in the areas I ride. 03 bone stock CR250R was my last woods rig. My weight made it work good in woods. Being able to hit the track every once and again was nice on that bike as well. Half a century old now and want similar but with FI and e start. Thx again for the reply.
@@jamesc6137 A 250F, in my opinion, will be under powered for a guy your size, especially if you're a skilled rider. I would get a Honda 450RX, Yamaha 450FX, or a KTM 350 or 450 XC.
Hey chase, In any of your testing did you guys have valve problems or where the valves sounded louder then normal? 220lbs is a lot for a 250F, especially if the dirt is sandy or soft and loamy. What do you currently ride? For a C rider, you might be ok. It's really hard to tell without seeing you ride. The new Honda 250R is a screamer up top. That's where it likes to be in the RPM range. It is much improved from the 18 and 19 models. The Yamaha is still the HP king, but the Honda isn't too far off. It would be my 250 of choice. I love that bike. - Chase

Sounds like you'll be learning how to jump and corner all over again and I think a 250 is the best way to learn. Personally, I'd go with the 250. I'd rather have a harder time touching the ground (which is most times since i'm barely 5'7) than not having the power I want. But it does depend on the riding that you're doing. Maybe check out the new Honda CRF250F. It's a mellow 250 but the seat height is quite a bit lower than a 250R. - Chase
@@rmatvmc Thank you for the reply, I really do appreciate it. I went back to the dealer today and I can't even touch the ground on the 250r, it's embarrassing... Also my confidence is through the roof on the 150 compared to the 250r. At 5' 6" 150lbs the 250's suspension barely dropped when I got on it. Also for about $1000 more you get so much more with the 250r These CRF150RB are a rip off at over $5,000. Living the short life...LOL thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
Thomas Sylvestro I’m 5’7 and only 118 lbs. the bike barely dropped when I sat on it as well. But after setting the rider sag it is much easier. I can get both feet on the ground and be comfortable. It’s all about getting used to planting one foot, which us short people need to learn to do. Honestly, if you can, try to sit on one and get the rider sag set and see how you feel then.
I just bought the honda 250r and Im coming from a ktm 2 stroke and the clutch pull is just destroying me. Do the WC levers help that much or is it best to go with a hydraulic clutch? I havnt tried lubing the cable but it has 5 hours on it, Is it possible it came from the factory a little short on lube? idk maybe im just finger weak
It definitely won't hurt to lube your cables. The 250R has a lighter pull than the 450 so be grateful for that haha. Which finger do you use to pull in the clutch? The middle finger has more strength than the index so maybe try that out. A good tip and one that I use is pushing my clutch lever in as far as possible so when I pull it, I'm grabbing the very outside of the lever. There is more leverage the farther out you go so it makes the pull easier, AND you won't break levers as easily if you crash. The WC connection levers have a really good feel to them and I love the bend. I don't know if it'll make too much difference in pull though. - Chase
@@rmatvmc thank you so much. Honestly I end up using a couple fingers idk im interested in the lever but just wanted to know what to expect instead of being disappointed.
@@MotoJerg44 thank you
Thomas Sylvestro no problem

Ill try your tips and if not maybe once my lever breaks I will get the WC but for the time being it seems I just gotta build up that finger strength
They need to make a Ronnie Mac signature model, cut fenders and everything. 🤔😄
Have never been a fan of those expensive dual exhausts...
#UPS
What I'd give to have this bike and go riding 😭
Do they mean a 250r not a 250 f??
They are just referring to a 250 Four stroke when saying "250F". Sorry for the confusion!
Are you guys gonna test anymore together?
We plan to film some more videos later in the year. I might be a part of his 250 shoot out so we'll see!
@@rmatvmc that would be Great
If you where to Race motocross.
At a local race what class would you enter
250A
250B
250C
Or Just
An age class
Like 30 plus or something like that?
Did you get Yourself a 250 Chase ?
If so which brand did you get ?
@@MX-CO No, I haven't yet. I'll probably wait for next year to get a new bike and continue on my Kawi til next spring. I have a map in my kawi that mellows out the bottom end and makes it much easier to ride. But a 250 is still on my radar. If I go 250, it's a honda or yamaha no question.
@@MX-CO I'd probably do a over 30A and and intermediate. No way I could hang with the young bucks in the A class.
Please can you bring back kid dirt bike reviews like I agreed
I'm gonna miss the renaissance chamber...
Best mod for any 250f is a 270cc kit
Mad video but this dude gotta stop saying 250 f this is a 250 r
You noticed how he saying
Yeh haha it started to frustrate me
When he says 250f he means 250 four strokes in general not just speaking about the honda. 250f=four stroke, 250t=two stroke
I want this bike but first I need a property for it 🌚
He’s been saying 250f for the longest time when it’s a 250r
Referring to a 250 four stroke....
Wow, I think I’m riding my 2019 totally wrong. I have always been a short shifter, I guess I need to rev the piss out of it.
#RideFasterPussy
If Keefer says it’s good, it’s good. #FahqFamily.
With the 19', the gearing wasn't quite right. Second gear was just too short and that's why you would have to short shift it. But the 20 gearing is much better and you can carry the gears longer. - Chase
Thank you Chase. I’m 55 years old, and do mainly fun moto track riding, and the JDay Offroad series in the Super Senior Class. I switch back and forth from my ‘95 CR250R, and really appreciate the way CRF feels when I hop back on it.
I had an ‘03 CRF450R and truly believe the 250f is a much better fit for me. I totally agree with your assessment. Awesome upload as usual.
Can yanks go somewhere other than Cali it's just lazy ! same reviews different people but all in Cali ? 90% same content, dull and dusty tracks ur country is big and amazing go different places tracks and conditions.
Trust me, I wish they would! We get tired of riding the same tracks also. But to get a rig to another part of the country i'm sure is much more expensive and time consuming than people think. But you're right, it would be nice to mix it up. - Chase
