I really loved this video! I like to watercolor birds, plants and bugs! I enjoy using my Peterson’s bird field guide and was wondering if I should stick to the same for bugs of North America. Beetles are my favs. That moth book u showed was amazing!
Thank you so much!! If you have any bug watercolors my friend sheryl and I give eachother challenges in our Turf Warz playlist. One of the challenges es to find nature art and we feature other ppls submissions of you'd like to show off your stuff and play along
I have the National Wildlife Federation: Field Guide to Insects and Spiders of North America. Just curious as to why the Southern House Spider isn't included and why the Arachnid section is so small.
I wish I had an answer to "why is the arachnid section so small" for all of my ID books Basically arachnids aren't insects. That's why. You need an arachmid book
Uuuuuh! Yes! More books to add to my NHBS cart >:) I've been trying to get a guide for African and Australian insects for ages! I have plenty of field guides but most focus on Portuguese insects - I do have a few that focus on European species in case you are interested though!
Gil Wizen seems like a cool guy! I think he even was the first to bring Pyrophorus into the beetle breeding hobby. Well, it's not really there yet, but one can hope...
I haven't used this one personally, but the Peterson guides are pretty good. And this covers all North America and is a normal field guide size. ** amzn.to/3qPd9hc
Hi there, can you please let me know if you own Encyclopedia of Entomology or have ever read or seen it? This book is many hundreds of $ but it is over 4 volumes with around 9000 pages. Wondering if it is a good buy if I can afford it?
Let me know if you have any other ID books that you love here in the Thought Box!

@@SciBugs thanks for that and that's one thing that mildly annoys me when people call spiders insects
Grandkids don't need toys for Xmas when I can get them a Nancy-recommended insect field guide.
Thats the spirit! Toys are short lived. Knowledge lasts forever
This is aa good topic for a series of videos. Best wishes and god luck in a new stories.
What's the name of that bug on the cover??.. Help??

Yes that's what I love about it! Even if you're just a bug enthusiast you'll get a lot out of it!

Gil is so amazing and generous with his knowledge and time. A great guy and one of the world experts on tailless whip scorpions
Great job! In your experience, what is a good beetle ID book for North America? more specific to US and Mexico.
Great question! The one I used when I was in the states was "Beetles of Eastern North America ** amzn.to/3qLzyMd
