    Wow, Brandon Jacobson had 4 brilliant moves vs Hikaru. Tbh, it does seem like he and Hans are creative af and get brilliant moves more often than most. And clearly, he did this while being observed and vs a top player. Very impressive.

    I still remember that every game from the 1992 Fischer Spassky rematch was printed in the Tampa Tribune. No other player commanded such a presence. Fischer turned down $50+ million dollars in 1976! What is $9 million in 2024 compared to that? No player today commands what Fischer did, none.

    Hans mentions rating decay. That's an interesting concept. You would have to come up with an algorithm that works though. It can't just be something like "you lose X rating points a month". Because of course that system would lie even more than the current one. A grand master stops playing for a year and all of the sudden his elo is lying to the world. He didn't get worse, he just had "rating decay". You want a system that tells you the strength of a player, not dangle a number over his head to incentivize him to play more. You can incentivize more play with other methods.

    Great interview with Hans and I completely agree about rating decay, soooo annoying how open people like Hikaru and Vishi are about barely playing but keeping their rating thus not letting it truly show their level

    • @112233JORDAN
      @112233JORDAN Час назад

      And also sticking to touraments with invite only facing only the top. Have them fight in open tournaments and their ratings would get demolished.

    I disagree with Hikaru. Chess doesn't evolve around Magnus especially as he nears the end of his career. Also, mid-tournament is not the time to protest dress code. Magnus knows better but he's used to getting his way.
    EDIT: Hikaru wants the top 20 players to form a union and protest against FIDE. I wonder which top 20 list Hikaru wants to use for his union. Maybe he forgets that the top 20 is a rotating list. People with common sense aren't going to put what little earning potential they have to protest against petty stuff like dress codes. Also, when FIDE tells these top 20 players to shove it like it happened to Kasparov and Short what are they going to do? It takes a lot of money to start a new federation and keep it running long term. Kasparov learned the hard way. Hikaru and Magnus don't care because they are both multi-millionaires but most other GMs aren't going to gamble their earning potential to follow these two elitists (at the end of their careers) who got nothing to lose.

    • @DC-zi6se
      @DC-zi6se 7 часов назад +8

      The Indians, Russians, Central Asians and Chinese would NOT protest against FIDE. And those guys are mostly covering the top 20.

    @Levy - please stop saying ‘like’ every second word when you’re speaking to people who dont have English as a first language…it’s really difficult for non native speakers to translate in their heads when ‘like’ is used as a filler. If you’re struggling to find your own words stick with ‘um’ or ‘er’, noises that seem prevalent in many languages! (Even better, try not to use fillers, especially not with an international audience)

    The more I think about Magnus' decision, the more I'm disappointed in him showing such poor sportsmanship. Now every winner will be deemed to "not be the true champion" even though Carlsen was nowhere near winning the tournament when he decided to leave it.
    BTW, not even Carlsen would agree that he is at its peak. He is still a phenomenal player but he is on his way down. Some time ago he named his favourite player as himself 'three years ago".

    Arkady is such a hypocrite, saying he'd be willing to revise the dress code but players need to follow it. He allows multitudes of players to violate the dress code and focuses on the players on camera, thats unprofessional. Either you enforce it fairly or dont enforce it at all. He's just a snake oil salesman. 🤢🤮
