Great reaction, thanks! There is no fourth part... actually, this is how they closed the show. After that, they proceeded to announce their two dream shows at the Budokan in March 2014 and also the release of their first album. This was (and is now that they are a trio again) their usual opening song but not this time. The meaning of the whole thing is the sacrifice of SU-METAL, giving up her mortal life as a human and Idol to reborn as a Metal Goddess. It was the final piece of an allegory about their transition from a J-pop idol group subunit to a legit metal band. The show also was partially themed around "Evangelion". The beat on the intro and the final statue crumbling are tributes to Metallica. The neckbrace is a recurring item and one of their many tributes to X-Japan. The fox thing originated when the girls were taught about the heavy metal horns and they ended up doing the fox like in a shadow play. A peculiar sign that they adopted as own and started doing all the time as well as their fans... No, really. Like, a lot! To the point that fans are called individually "kitsune" or "megitsune" (male/female fox) while collectively are known as The ONE. They also have a very popular song called "Megitsune" 🤘🦊
Thank you for the super thoughtful reaction. I've always wanted someone to really follow the story as they watched, because it adds so much to the theater of the performance, you were great! Thank you again. Re: Foxes. Babymetal started in 2010 as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin, Yui/Moa/Su (age 10-12) had never even heard metal before. They were shocked at it when introduced by their producer, and as they watched performances to understand it a bit they saw people making "devil horns" and they as a trio thought what the people were doing was making "fox shadow puppets". When their producer discovered why they made shadow foxes instead of the more expected horns handsign, he made foxes a core element to everything about the band. They have a fictional fox-god of metal, tons of symbols related to it everywhere, and when they make hand signs it is always the fox shadow puppet from day 1.
COOM8E, well done. This was a very respectful treatment of the "unofficial trilogy of death". I have to say that you got a lot right in these videos, it shows that you were paying attention to the nuances in the videos. Of course, you missed a lot of the Easter eggs that Babymetal imbed in some of their videos too, but don't feel bad, I often spot something new in a video that I hadn't noticed before even after multiple views. You just watched the final three songs from the Legend 1997 concert which was held to celebrate Su's 16th birthday. The whole Legend 1997 concert can be viewed as tracing Babymetal's beginnings as part of a J-Pop Idol group (Sakura Gakuin) where Idols often lip-synced and performed to a back track. Legend 1997 begins in this fashion and then continues through their phases of singing live to back track with actors hired to pretend they are playing the instruments behind them (known as the Babybones). The concert then closes, but Babymetal comes back for a 5-song encore (including the three closing songs you just watched) with a full live band that they had been trialling (The Kami Band). So, the concert, in essence, traces Babymetal's progression from its earliest days through to the beginning of their story arc that would last for the next 10 years, that Babymetal was summoned by the Fox God to lead the Metal Resistance. COOM8E, I don't know if you have a Patreon, but if you do, you should consider doing a reaction to the full concert (it has to go on Patreon or something similar because you would get blocked on RUclips), because this will give you a much greater understanding of this concert, and Babymetal in general. Welcome to the Foxhole.
There is no part four. But you can see the Queen's crown and scepter and her servants at BabyMetal - In The Name Of (Legend S - 2017 Su-metal Birthday Concert). And see the queen's throne and guards in BabyMetal - Metal Kingdom (PIA Arena 2023 Live). And the storyline of Su-metal getting a neck brace is in BabyMetal - Headbanger MV. That DNA is on the Su-metal handheld mic stand. BabyMetal’s story continues. Thanks for your great reaction.
Hell yeah man, this "trilogy" is really an unofficial label us fans has given to the last 3 songs of Legend 1997 concert, which was lead Su-metal's 16th birthday show in Dec 2013. *Lore:* The God of Metal, The FOX GOD, summoned 3 heavy metal spirits (Babymetal) to fight the "Big Bad" J-Pop Idol industry which was oppressing metal. To do this, Babymetal infiltrates the J-Pop Idol industry to fight it from within by fusing it with metal. Legend 1997 tells the transformation of lead Su-metal, born a mortal and a J-Pop Idol (in the year 1997), sacrificing herself in this battle, then reborn as a Heavy Metal Goddess. This show starts off pop-ish, progressively getting heavier until this ultimate closer, BABYMETAL DEATH. *IRL:* Babymetal was formed by producer Key Kobayashi, a true metalhead stuck in the J-Pop industry. He felt the metal scene in Japan (2010) was in decline, and needed a jolt of youth to revitalize his beloved genre. The girls were age 12/11 when Babymetal formed in 2010, and mistook the Devil Horn hand gestures in metal as "fox signs" in shadow-play. Koba rolled with it and made a whole lore/backstory to go with it. Babymetal started as the "heavy music club" of the J-Pop idol group, Sakura Gakuin, and by 2013, they split off and became its own entity. *The Song:* _Desu_ = "I am / We are". (Silent "u") _Babymetal Desu_ = "We are Babymetal" _Su-metal Desu_ = "I am Su-metal". _Desu! Desu! Desu!_ = "We are! We are! We are!" But this is heavy metal, so say it with a lisp, and we get "BABYMETAL DEATH". 🤘 This song was the 1st track of their 1st album, and is typically used as a concert opener, where the girls innocently introduces themselves 🤣. And also the birth of "#NotACult" for obvious reasons, lol. *Next Suggestion:* Be sure to do Akatsuki, full version from Budokan 2014! 🤘🦊 #NotACult
And the original Sense of Babymetal Death was: They were tUght to use Stage Personas on Stage. And this Song helped them to get really deep in their Selrcted Personality. Su says for example Su Metal desu. " I am Su Metal" add to it the Music and they run around and confuse themselves. This helps the Girl. She is no longer Suzuka NKamoto, or today Nakamoto-san for most people, but Su METAL. And there was another Reason why he used the FoxSign and Fox Gods. In Shinto the Kitsune are well known as the Messungen of Gods. But for the Devil? The Girls have simply no Concept for Such an Entity as the Devil and furthermore why the Devil would be Worshipped in Metal Music. While Christianity is not totally unknown in Japan they have no real Context what real believers do and are. And in Japan it is a deep Tradition that Religions itself are not bad, but if many People believe strongly in it People die. In fact Su obviously had strong Reservation against Kobas Idea of a Foxgod. As she often enough remembers People that Koba is the Single Prophet . Only Koba has seen the FoxGod and received his Revelations.
Great reaction. Sorry but no, this was the concert finale with Suzuka Nakamoto giving up her existence as a JPop Idol, receiving the neck brace from the God of Metal and sacrificing her human life to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal chosen to lead the Metal Resistance and reunite the world with and through metal music. They only crucify Su on special occasions (they did it all again with extra flames🔥 in 2017 for her 20th birthday) ... and this was the moment we all realised three Japanese girls of 16, 14 and 14 are all far more "Metal" than we will ever be. How did you celebrate your 16th birthday, I bet it wasn't by being crucified on stage by two of your best friends while thousands of people chanted "Death death death!" The lore continued in their next big concerts at the Budokan in March 2014 after the release of their first album. 'BABYMETAL DEATH' was the first song on the first album and the few lyrics there are are simply them introducing themselves and BABYMETAL by name. Just to clarify, the word desu (the U is silent) means I am, it is, we are etc - spoken with a slight lisp it sounds very much like the English word death. The lyrics are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" "Su-metal death", "Yuimetal death", "Moametal death", "BABYMETAL death" "Death Death Death Death!" Normally they would open concerts with this song - on special occasions like this it might be used later in the concert. They stopped playing it at all after 2017 when Yui couldn't perform and then left the band in 2018 ... it was brought back in April 2023 when Momometal became the official third member and they could once again introduce themselves as a trio - it has been the regular opening number again ever since then.
That was the end of that part of the Story, the statue was the old goddess, and it fell apart and Su-Metal became the new goddess. I love that Moa fixed her hair. You dont want to be crucified with bad hair. Part of the Lore is that BabyMetal fights darkness by putting stars in the sky thru song.
As someone who is actually in the middle of learning Japanese, mainly because of getting into Babymetal, want to point out the pronunciation of Akatsuki. It would be said something along the lines of Ah-Ka-Su-Ki, Su in that is actually the tsu part, but it sounds similar to Su however, said very quickly. So instead of sounding like Sue as Su does, it's more like Suh, but with an ooh instead of an h if that makes sense at all. The entire time, the crown was chanting Death and also spelling out Babymetal. The only other lyrics in the song, are Su-Metal desu, Yuimetal desu, Moametal desu and Babymetal desu. (desu is pronounced like Dess) which translated is I am Su-Metal, I am Yuimetal, I am Moametal and We are Babymetal. As others have said, there's really no other song continuing from this, unless you consider their whole catalog a continuation. In that regards though, I would definitely recommend either Megitsune or Karate next. Both I would actually suggest doing the music video for, which for Babymetal is a rare occurrence to have the MV requested. Afterwards you could do a live version as a double reaction or as separate reactions. Monochrome Live @ PIA Arena is another good suggestion for a more recent song of theirs.
You don't emphasis any sound in Japanese, it is monotone in the sounding. You also pronounce every letter (except the silent U occasionally - as in desu), so that you are saying this word wrong. The other important point is that there are no diphthongs - complex vowels - ie the metal group Hanabie is spoken as written with -i-e said at the end as separate vowel sounds (unlike English you would say this as ie as in "field"). The band Hanabie stopped a concert in Europe and explain how to say the band name as they did not realise they hit this English language diphthong problem. You say this as at-kat-ski. That is the closest I can write without using formal pronunciation form. Atatsuki is crimson moon, but also day-break as in early morning just before the sun rises - since in Japan they get the crimson moon in the morning.
Yes, you noticed the DNA strand at the opening narration, with the neck brace. Now think back... The neck brace is from the Headbanger MV ( nod to X-Japan ) The DNA strand is the "Freddie Mercury type" mic stand that Su uses in the Headbanger songs. BABYMETAL is all about the details. I've watched repeatedly many BABYMETAL videos and there are so many little details and nuances that it boggles my mind. I learn new things constantly from reaction videos and comments (shout out to Grington, Jake and many others of the One). 🤘🦊🤘
And you should understand what the limits of their mythology were. Especially in the begining an important part of the mxthology was, to explain to his girls: What is happening to me? He simply didn't care that she was pro Forma no longer an idol, but for her a World seemed to disappear. For Koba she was his Star for Years, he was not interested in the idol Suzuka Nakamura, but for the person Suzuka Nakamura, that could become Su Metal. In fact each of theircshows started with the Song Babymetal Death. This was the reason why the people in the audience knew this song. But it gave Su the possibility to transfer from one live to the next. While School and Sakura Gakuin no longer existed for her, he had already prepared the next step in her planned Career. She had to learn how dpendent the star was. So , when her School was finished she started a fast track Career as a normal staff member. The first steps were easy. She was simply a new staff member, but in later steps he had to explain what he wanted her to learn and after a few steps half of the industry knew that Koba taught there his next star. With other words many people knew that she represented a new job option.
This was the end of one episode with several episodes to come in the following years it's too much to explain you should watch the The guide to Babymetal and pay attention to the Lord in certain videos and concerts
Basically, you have witnessed Su's sacrifice. I personally would recommend you to watch the reborn scene of Su metal for your next video. The reborn scene was in different concert. Check out "Headbanger 15 mix with Ave Maria intro" You would love it, guaranteed.🎉
I'm old so I don't remember the effect direction. He should go but he should watch one of the Babymetal story videos so someone can be nice enough to point him in the right direction. Thank you
The only bit that you missed, other than the little Easter eggs with nods to other metal bands. Bottom line is that Su is given the neck brace and sacrificed where she was reborn into SuMetal. Notice the statue of Su breaking up being the death of the idol and that’s how we got our Queen Su. Capiche?
The only spell the Name Babymetal. To understand the context. All this years she trained to be an Idol and suddenly she received a Letter from Amuse, and in it Amuse terminated her Idol contract. It is understandable that she wad shocked. This was a deal from Koba and Amuse but he hadn't found the time to talk with them yet. Ao he had this totally shocked girl in front of him and he had to calm her down. He was not interested in a simple Idol. He wanted the singer Suzuka NKamoto. And he exolained her his ideas in ever Brighton colors. And he also saw in it a good method to get more money out of Amuse. So he would get a big Show out of the Situation and to give the girls a Payraise. They got special contracts.

And to make it clear, when they were still under their old contracts rhere were a lot of tumours that these were not constructions to secure their money but constructions to put their money in the company. But now we know that their conracts were on fact clean. "Why?" They lived for some time from theor money. Babymetal was a 10 year contract (usual in conteactscwith minors) We only servthe new Babymetal, because Su and Moa offered Koba a new offer, under which conditions they might be ready to continue with Babymetal. Their first demand was: we want to be a Trio again, we want Momoko. And this was his biggest problem. She was not in Japsn but in Korea, but he forwarded their Offer. And So in the April of 2023 there was for the first time "Momo Metal desu" in the whole year of 2023 she was obviously still a trainee, but now it is obvious that she is a full member of Babymetal. Abd the testart worked much better than expected.in 2024 they were more or less the standard headliner in all Metal Festivals that they could handle and in the May of 2025 they added for the first time a non japanese Arena Tour in Europecand the UK.
Lol. "Somebody tell me what the audience is saying.". They're speaking ENGLISH! Duh. How can you not hear that they're spelling out B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L. Wow.
Great reaction, thanks!
