+Eric Eldred I like this band, because they are godspeed without having to sit through 10 minutes of static sounds before the song actually starts. Love them both though.
You just made me feel every single emotion in less than 10 minutes. This feels like when I heard "Dark Side Of The Moon" for the first time. Don't take that lightly. This might just be one of the best albums ever. I'm psyched as fuck.
When 'Dark Side of the Moon' came out (a band tbh I don't like but respect nonetheless) many will have said 'One of the Best Albums ever, please'....but it was and is....
true, I admit I was overreacting although it really is an amazing song by a really above average band. Just saying, that's pretty much what pink floyd were before that album was released...
+Mr.Thunder Suckle Fuzz Canyon It's only considered "overreacting" because it's such an early stage. Believe me, Sunbather and, so far, New Bermuda will be regarded as cult classics soon enough. I'm actually beginning to love this album more than Sunbather, but they both sound so different from each other than they're both masterpieces in their own right.
About a month ago, I started an exchange trip to Germany, and flew through Iceland to get there and back home. After weeks of making new friends and sharing some of the finest memories of my entire life with them, I had to say goodbye at the airport and fly back in the most somber plane ride ever. No one really said a word as we were all pretty bummed out that it was over. I'll never forget flying back into Keflavik, Iceland while listening to this album and seeing the deep, blue tides gushing over each other, and not too far behind were the stacked, colorful buildings that you see all around Iceland. Getting further down in the descent, 6:27 happened and it was like something from a movie. In that moment I felt longing, happiness, sadness, bliss, and comfort all in one. That is the beauty of Deafheaven. The band's ability to convey the complexity of emotion that we don't necessarily know how to feel, or even understand, is astounding, and I'll always love them for showcasing that. They put their soul into the music. When you hear it, you hear something truly vulnerable. No escapism by masking sadness with hatred or faux-misanthropy. It's something real, and I think that's what people love (and hate) about them.
In recent years music has become a commodity, something to stick on shuffle or toss away depending on the weekly trend. Fans and musicians can forget that music isn't just a tune, but an artform; the pouring of love, hate, fear, anger and everything in between onto a tape. But some bands know the strongest connection comes deep from within. Recorded live and directly to tape in California, Deafheaven's new opus is a tsunami of noise, swelling and crashing like waves sent from Poseidon amid a vast ocean. At times the storm subsides and open waters come into full view before the ferocity of San Francisco's poetic post-black metal assault submerges you in a world of extremes - from the retching vocals to unstoppable blastbeats to deafening shoegaze, this is pain in its purest form. Let it wash over you, drag you deep into the abyss these five harbingers of destruction have created, and drown you in a sea of aggression and truth.
Music can be beautiful, accomplished, well-composed, well-executed etc but this is a step further. This is the kind of music with such emotional depth that it elevates the soul and I rarely use such words.
I feel intense emotion when i listen to this song. It encapsulates my feeling towards the passing of my father. I was incredibly angry at the cruel fate he received. The emotion than became sadness and than relief that he never has to be in constant anguish. The outro perfectly captures that shift in emotion. Thank you
when this album first came out, I didn't really dig it but over time I've really grown to love it. This song in particular is perhaps the best song deafheaven have made
Scrawled into the pavement, again and again Written on the red stalls in smokey tin On the smokey tin, it melts again and again On the booths of the round table, again and again Drug onto the street and onto the soaking steps, again and again Endless debris sifting through static lungs, lingering into every pore Laced with a bitter face near the dawning of the high and madness of the undertow We audience who saved our roses We audience who scoffed at the tears Ugliness stretching toward the chandelier Pale with pain I imagined the overcome and fell to my knees before the endless truth of instability and futility. Now I know.
the first half of this track kicked my ass so hard I can't get the taste of doc martens out my mouth. then it apologized all teary eyed, and took me for a soothing drive and a beach picnic. this is deafheaven.
Wow, this track is an absolute masterpiece for the Black Metal genre. I am completely in love with this track. As Andrew Reed said "heart-wrenchingly beautiful." Not a better way to describe this track. Cheers!
In these new songs George sounds german in his screams and pronunciation. I love it, it reminds me a lot of German black metal bands like Der Weg Einier Freiheit and Endstille. All hail black metal!
Fuck what the elitists think. You can tell these guys deeply love that classic black metal sound. But yet at the same time, they don't want to do just that.
What a superb album, first one I hear from Deafheaven, love it overall all songs are great especially this one and brought to the water. I love the slow-post metalish parts more than anything they mix so perfectly whith the rest of the album and give it a needed change in every song. 9/10

I am all for this. For some reason I was worried that this would just be a repeat of the last single but this song is it's OWN thing. Can't wait for the new album and to hopefully see them in November along with fucking ENVY HOLY SHIT(one of my 2 or 3 favorite bands).
This is my favorite record of 2015. I still think sunbather is their best work but New Bermuda is fucking solid. Also got to see them live and they played New Bermuda in its entirety. They're one hell of a band to say the least.
This band took black metal and dream pop and fused them together in a way like peanut butter and chocolate. This song is definitely a Reece’s peanut butter cup.
+Riley Webb Wow I never saw it that way but now that I think about it, you're right. Also, Kerry McCoy said he wanted to move towards Alternative Rock with this album so you can hear some clear influences like Wilco (that slide guitar is very reminiscent of Wilco's slide guitar tracks for me) and like you said it has an OK Computer Radiohead feel to as well. I also really love Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Sleep influence in the intro. Such an incredible band
I discovered this band trying to figure out what Black-shoegaze exactly was. had a listen to Roads to Judah and was instantly hooked! up to now with each album they always deliver! this song like many others is a masterpiece. it s like trve black metal fused some post grunge a la soundgarden or pj..friggin' great
*Begins with a bootifull intro.... *proceeds to explode into an incredibly stagnant and endless loop of the sound of dying animals and children with guitars and drumsticks.
+tenofswords618 I never understand the whole "post" genre thing. When you say post, it means after something has come and went, like post-9/11 America. Black metal never left or stopped.
tenofswords618 Yeah, but straight up rock and roll bands don't really come out anymore, so I can understand that. Black metal is still around, and never left though.
They don't sleep anymore on the beach.
+Eric Eldred Cony Island memes
+Eric Eldred GS!YBE is a definite influence.
+Eric Eldred this made me lol. The beginning is totally reminiscent of GYBE
+Eric Eldred +1 For listening to GS!YBE and Deafheaven!
+Eric Eldred I like this band, because they are godspeed without having to sit through 10 minutes of static sounds before the song actually starts. Love them both though.
one of the greatest build-ups in extreme metal music , a storm of pure redemption
Goddamn the first half of this song is intense! Second half was heart-wrenchingly beautiful. You guys are just on fire right now.
I second that.
+Andrew Reed i love the contrast. There was that definitely in the older album.
But dang love the last part.
You just made me feel every single emotion in less than 10 minutes. This feels like when I heard "Dark Side Of The Moon" for the first time. Don't take that lightly. This might just be one of the best albums ever. I'm psyched as fuck.
One of the best ever? Please.
Sorry, " *the* best ever".
Is that better?
When 'Dark Side of the Moon' came out (a band tbh I don't like but respect nonetheless) many will have said 'One of the Best Albums ever, please'....but it was and is....

This song is like falling into darkness and then proceeding to climb your way out. What a progression!
In a way thats totally it :)

Wish I could upvote this more than once. Wonderful.
This album definately is no sunbather...and in the best possible way.

god damn that was eloquent. srs
Oh stfu
lol shut up nerd i like this and pop music because nothing matters life is short lets have fun and be depressed at the same time
@@straaak3542 I think good art is important
Thank you for this. Almost a decade later i don’t think this comment has ever been truer
It shocks me how they can be capable of blending darkness with lightness.
Music can be beautiful, accomplished, well-composed, well-executed etc but this is a step further. This is the kind of music with such emotional depth that it elevates the soul and I rarely use such words.
I miss this Deafheaven.
Only something Deafheaven can pull off.
One of my favorites of this generation.
I feel intense emotion when i listen to this song. It encapsulates my feeling towards the passing of my father. I was incredibly angry at the cruel fate he received. The emotion than became sadness and than relief that he never has to be in constant anguish. The outro perfectly captures that shift in emotion. Thank you
the first half is like Getting brutally murdered and the second half is like peacefully dying
when this album first came out, I didn't really dig it but over time I've really grown to love it. This song in particular is perhaps the best song deafheaven have made
the more and more you listen to it on repeat.. the more and more you're sucked into your past memories and depressions...
Incredible track. This is among the finest works of metal art ever created.
Scrawled into the pavement, again and again
Written on the red stalls in smokey tin
On the smokey tin, it melts again and again
On the booths of the round table, again and again
Drug onto the street and onto the soaking steps, again and again
Endless debris sifting through static lungs, lingering into every pore
Laced with a bitter face near the dawning of the high and madness of the undertow
We audience who saved our roses
We audience who scoffed at the tears
Ugliness stretching toward the chandelier
Pale with pain
I imagined the overcome and fell to my knees before the endless truth of instability and futility.
Now I know.
the first half of this track kicked my ass so hard I can't get the taste of doc martens out my mouth. then it apologized all teary eyed, and took me for a soothing drive and a beach picnic. this is deafheaven.
my favorite Deafheaven album, love the heavy nodes to traditional black metal
For me this is such a depressing song; it reminds me of the emptiness of life and that bs you hear about how we may as well make the most of it
The whole album does, that's why I love it
Wow, this track is an absolute masterpiece for the Black Metal genre. I am completely in love with this track. As Andrew Reed said "heart-wrenchingly beautiful." Not a better way to describe this track. Cheers!
BEAUTIFUL.
+Xavier It really, really is.
everyones like "Oh sunbather is too melodic and soft to be black metal"
deafheavens like: challenge accepted, kid
+Memer420 you seriously think reddit is more appropriate for shit memes than youtube?
+Memer420 I've never even been on reddit. . .
+Jihadbeagle get out of my face kid
+Epplerichard they contrast their heaviest material with their softest and most beautiful
+Joe Molloy Confirmed black metal poser
yall are on track to blow sunbather out of the fucking water tbh
"I imagined the overcome and fell to my knees before the endless truth of instability and futility."
"WARNING. AFTER LISTENING THIS, WAITING TILL OCTOBER 2ND CAN BE HARMFUL FOR YOUR HEALTH"

Muchas gracias amigo! 🤝
Somebody has to loop the outro, so this will be my backtrack in paradise
Loma Prieta just said on Twitter that this would be the album of the year; I may be starting to think they're right
+ShellacSoup Same release day as well :)

Deafheaven doesn't make a bad track I love them
Shanethony Harringtano gives this a light to a strong Deafheaven.
Absolutely STUNNING track. New Bermuda will be astounding. I just know it.
This band continues to impress me with each new song
last 3 mins make me cry
Ok, I am SO HYPED for this record.
I absolutely love this track.
oh wow. I had to sit down for a minute after hearing this. so much yes
GY!BE - Sleep intro?
Kinda. But that's pretty much it. It's all DFHVN after that.
+Juan Rodriguez they don't sleep anymore on the beach
Of course it is. More like a bad version of that song.
+Juan Rodriguez I was about to comment the same. Pretty much like it, but somehow it doesn't bother me at all
+xOblivionShadeX lol I remember how we were discussing that influence on this ;)
I saw this piece live. It was amazing.
This is a masterpiece from start to finish love this Band
lemme just say damn that album art.
Maximum excitement levels have been achieved.
definiely blacker than sunbather, but die hard BM fans will still give it shit for some miniscule, myopic bullshit.
+Tate Anderson If it has production, black metal elitist will hate it.
***** do you know how to read? I never said better.

They're one hell of a band to say the least.
gettin better every album, holla.
don't normally go for this stuff but love this track to bits....................
Unbelievable. Absolutely stunning.
saw it live, two weeks ago. it was incredible.
My fucking god this is beautiful.
I am buying this CD ASAP
This song is so beautiful.....
This band took black metal and dream pop and fused them together in a way like peanut butter and chocolate. This song is definitely a Reece’s peanut butter cup.
Does anyone else find from about 7:30 onwards it actually wouldn't sound out of place on "Ok Computer"?
+Riley Webb holy shit you're so right
+Riley Webb Wow I never saw it that way but now that I think about it, you're right.
+Riley Webb OK Computer doesn't feature anything that basic.
+Riley Webb Spot on, if you had played that for me and asked who it was, Radiohead probably would have been my guess
+Riley Webb Yeah, aside from that cats fucking vocal of Radiohead.
Temazo, es increíble lo que hacen en esta canción, diria que es la mejor del álbum, y eso es ya decir mucho.
Absolutely stunning
That last four minutes though.... holy shit.
I discovered this band trying to figure out what Black-shoegaze exactly was. had a listen to Roads to Judah and was instantly hooked! up to now with each album they always deliver! this song like many others is a masterpiece. it s like trve black metal fused some post grunge a la soundgarden or pj..friggin' great
This is too good
don't listen to that much metal anymore, but holy shit this is breathtaking.
We need this bass player back in the band guys!!! He was perfect for kerry
HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE
this song cleared my sinuses
que hermosotema una obra maestra no lo supero viva deafheaven
Awesome!
Shit so good you need more
Stoooonnneee
Wasn't as impressed by the last track you guys released, but this is fucking beautiful!
the new music they've made is epic!!!!
beautifull song
just wonderful
7:20 nothing fancy just a simple major scale sounding beautifully perfect for that section
Deafheaven is a band you can comfortably say "needs more listens" with. And actually mean it.
YES THIS IS WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR!
the ending sounds like real estate and the cure :P
+Brendan Dyer Nah. J Marr.
I can not wait!
I like this song.
Damn. It's heavy as fuck. So far every track has been heavier than anything on Sunbather
*Begins with a bootifull intro.... *proceeds to explode into an incredibly stagnant and endless loop of the sound of dying animals and children with guitars and drumsticks.
I'm probably the only person who sees this but 8:00 reminds me a lot Full Moon Sways from anime BECK. Also badass record. Can't wait for new album.
Goddamn, 6:30 is amazing.
Exquisite atmosphere
YAAAAASSSSS
3:00 This massive riff is so fucking heavy live. Cool band.
give me the mp3 NOW
3:02 "The madness of the UNDERTOOOWWWWWWWW" oh shit.
what a year for post black metal! this, ghostbath, mesarthim have blown me away
+tenofswords618 I never understand the whole "post" genre thing. When you say post, it means after something has come and went, like post-9/11 America. Black metal never left or stopped.
post as in "post rock" eg godspeed you black emperor, god is an astronaut etc
tenofswords618 Yeah, but straight up rock and roll bands don't really come out anymore, so I can understand that. Black metal is still around, and never left though.
agreed
reminds me Mgla - Exercises in Futility
awesome
really pretty song
omg so good such awesome wow
I'M IN LOOOVE !!!!
