Love to see someone discovering Dirty Loops for the first time, and have their minds blown by this insanely competent power house of a group. It's a Swedish jazz fusion trio, consisting of Jonah Nilsson on vocals/keyboard, Henrik Linder on bass, and Aron Mellergård on drums. They started the group as a hobby project in 2008 (as they were a bit bored with the restrictions that came with working as session musicians), and never thought it would be anything other than that. In 2010 they put up a video on youtube (a cover of Lady Gaga's "Just Dance"), as a booking reference, to see if they could get a gig or two, just for fun, as they thought their music was way too unsexy for anyone to actually like it. Needless to say, they were completely wrong. The video went viral and a LOT of people absolutely loved it. Just about everything they've ever released is of this ridiculous musical quality (no matter if it's an original, like this one, or a cover), so if you consider checking out more of them, you could basically pick anything, and you more than likely won't be disappointed. My personal favourite is one of their more jazz fusion-y pieces, "Work Shit Out", from the EP "Phoenix".
Those days they're managed by none other than Quincy Jones, but they're producing (and mostly also releasing) everything themselves, with the help of a guy named Simon Petrén. They've even said that they don't let Quincy Jones see anything, not even demos, until they're all done with a song, video and all. The one editing all their videos is Aron (the drummer), and they do indeed want the videos to showcase all the intricate details, just as you pointed out.
I read somewhere (but I can't for the life of me remember where, I'm afraid) that the "capo" on the bass is actually the nut, as that particular bass has two extra frets.

Oh, and they're just as maddeningly good live. Saw them a little over a year ago, at a small outdoors jazz festival in northern Sweden, and it was easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I'm still in absolute awe. 🤯

Interesting, Lotta, with the two extra frets….
As well as everything else you’ve said, as always 👍

Lotta said it all in her comment ☺️
I loved your reaction to those dudes. They’re outstanding and completely unique in their genre-bending, fusion way.
This track is from their first album, ‘Loopified”, a double CD set, released in 2014.
Every song on there is mindblowing.
Loved your appreciation and analysis of everything, from the sound quality to all of their playing.
And Jonah’s singing?? He’s the goat! His riffs are legendary.
Quincy said of him:”… he’s got soul, and one of the biggest ranges I’ve ever heard.”
Henrik on bass is one of the shining lights of the new generation of bass players.
And to your guess of why he’s using that capo, yeah I’m with you (although I’m no bass player, so just guessing myself). It lets him use the ‘open strings’ to full effect in that particular key.
Aron on drums is legendary for his clean, amazing and musical playing.
And all three can get out of the way of each other perfectly, whilst still getting their places to shine.
They’re super arrangers in this way.
I also love Jonah’s jazzy harmony arrangements on the keys.
“Hit Me” from this early album is seriously, indescribably mind blowing. A poppy hook, but man the chops on all three instruments and the vocals….!!!
Gospel, jazz and funk heaven also in their song “Next to You”.
“Work Shit Out”, as Lotta mentioned, is another way-out track, including a killer drum solo from Aron 🔥
And THEN there is their collaborative effort with guitarist Cory Wong where they’ve released amongst other stellar tracks a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” ☺️
I’m glad you found Dirty Loops, they found you ;) thanks to whoever pointed them out to you.
And I feel they’re in good hands with you 👍
    Thanks brother 🙏

This is what you get when you drop your Fruit Loops on the ground. Dirty Loops leading the funk line. Giving me BeeGee's vocals.
