  • Let's walk around the beautiful grounds of Villa Gregoriana, in Tivoli, a few kilometres from Rome.
Villa Gregoriana is probably the least well-known of the Villas in Tivoli, the more famous pair are Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana, but I was recommended to visit it by a local and it was really worth it!
The park is huge (so be prepared to walk a lot!) and made up of lush vegetation, vestiges of ancient buildings, waterfalls and grottoes. It’s the outcome of a significant hydraulic engineering work conceived to contain and control the floods of the Aniene River that Pope Gregory XVI promoted in 1832. The engineers built 2 tunnels to alter the course of the river and created an artificial waterfall.
You can reach Tivoli from Stazione Termini or from Stazione Tiburtina in Rome . From there it's an easy walk to the town center and the villa.
