- Jon Wilner has an update on Pac 12 expansion. TCU loses a handful of stars to the NFL draft before the deadline. TCU still mulling over a controversial hire. Big 12 hoops update.
I would love to see the Pac 12 and Big 12 merge. Doubt it ever happens but personally I would enjoy watching Washington, Oregon, Utah playing TCU, Kansas St, Okl st etc.
With a new commissioner coming in, I see more expansion talks happen with the Big 10, adding Oregon and Washington.
@sorney98 why is that ? Ohio State, Iowa, NEB, perhaps others were blocking further expansion, that's why Warren left - he was being actively thwarted. Why would that situation suddenly change when the guy who wanted to expand further but was blocked, left ??? They're going to get a bus driver who doesn't make waves.
It would be a better conference top to bottom than the B1G
@Charles M Nebraska wasn't blocking it, hate to tell you that.
@Charles M Warren didn't leave because of Ohio St and Iowa, I don't blame him to take a chance at the NFL. But it takes the right person to talk business for the conference. Schools were skeptical about adding Nebraska but Barry Alvarez was the one that talked and got Nebraska added. Once that happened, it was clear that Big 10 could get bigger market wise reason to add Rutgers, Maryland, UCLA, and USC.
If the right person can talk to these schools show the advantages adding Oregon, Washington, Stanford, California will help get Notre Dame and some other ACC schools as well.
Big 10 wise only 2 schools were blocking adding schools and that was Ohio State, Iowa. But all it takes is right person to talk to them
Rest in peace Devin and Chandler. Regardless of your team affiliation, losing young people sucks.
Coach Jerome is looking way beyond the in state rivalry to being a basketball program that can make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. Growing up in Kansas we were greatful that KU at least won some natty's. As a KU fan I hope one day KSU wins a national championship. Most likely in basketball. AZ and ASU should take note of what they are missing by not being in the Big12.
Still betting that the PAC stays pat at 10. They should expand, but I think enough members are looking at their short term interests (how to get out if a better deal shows up this decade). Then about making sure the PAC is stable.
The problem is Pac is not stable with Oregon, Washington looking to go to the Big 10. With a new commissioner coming in, it could easily happen. That happens rest will need a home and only conference that makes sense is the Big 12.
@@sorney98 yep, I see a lot of parallels between Texas/Oklahoma blocking Big 12 expansion and Oregon/Washington doing the same. They want a weak 5 year contract with no new members that will be easy to exit if the Big 10 comes calling.
@@drgat6953 agreed 💯
3:35 first mention of John Wilner Pac12 expansion - just a topic statement to be discussed later on.
Again great show!! I saw OU and N.Illinois in Ahern’s last year. Awesome atmosphere!! Also I saw the first great game in Bramlage Coliseum against Purdue! I look forward to TT and also TCU games on Saturday in Manhattan!!!
OU basketball has 14 games left. Ten are against ranked teams. As if the Big 12 wasn't tough enough with 6 ranked teams, OU played Villanova, St John's, Florida and Arkansas pre conference, and will play #4 Alabama in the SEC Big 12 Showdown. Good OU team. Might not make the tournament...
Concerning the KSU vs KU game, let's go ahead and knock those Jayhawks off, will ya?
The Pac-12 problem in expansion is that there aren't any candidates who check all the boxes. SDSU is the closest. SMU, Boise, Fresno, and UNLV each have clear shortcomings, but that's the list.
I don't see any reason for them to hurry, though. There's nobody that is available today who might not be available in the summer. If it hurts the TV deal (in a per school basis for current members) to add a couple schools, they won't add at all.
SDSU doesn't add to the conference either. The PAC should stay at 10 schools.
@@craigkirsch6750 Yes, but it clearly has fewer drawbacks than others. If the conference needs s school near LA, that's the clear pick.
@@TheFranchiseCA With the media deal appearing to be far less than what the PAC was expecting I don't see them splitting the pie into more pieces.
@@craigkirsch6750 The pac 12 wouldn't have any schools in Southern California. It would also open an opportunity for westward expansion for the big 12. Having a school in Southern California would open the recruiting flood gates for the Big 12.
Matthew problem is I don’t think the Pac can be as picky as in the past about checking all the boxes. I say they add all 5 of those schools keep the Big12 from moving that far west. If you need a 16th team for even numbers I would go with New Mexico State not a great team but it gives a bridge to SMU for a closer game and despite it not being a huge media market it gives the Pac solid west coast/south west coverage. Maybe add Gonzaga plus one as basketball only schools. It also gives the Pac more possible bottom teams, the SEC has been doing that for years playing weak teams in conference and it has worked. Only recently have some of those bottom teams moved up since they now have the money to do it. On the other hand I don’t know why more teams would want to go into the top heavy Big10.
big 12 already the third best conference in America!
I'm not concerned about the PAC 12's expansion timeline as much as I am WHO they will expand with. Do they reach beyond SD St. and SMU? I think that's it.
BTW, you don't know a hateful crowd until you see Texas play at Texas A&M but I'm told BYU vs. Utah is just as toxic.
BYU/Utah is toxic. It’s the only fight I’ve been to where a game broke out.
They call it the holy war for a good reason, big time animosity
Great show
remember that was the 2nd time for Big 12 - different situation
You're right, the rivalry isn't so much about the teams but the fans of each school. With so many schools in Texas in the Big 12 the fan base is more spread out. In Kansas, there are only the two B12 schools. The Sunflower Showdown is about fans bragging rights. This year it could very well come down to who won and holds the tiebreaker for the B12 championship. It’s not so much about hate, it’s more about not wanting to listen to the winning schools fans ribbing the losing school fans. Just like at the Chiefs vs Raiders. Conference standings are put aside for a week and the focus, again for the fans, is on this one game. And the fans are what will make the coliseum the Octagon of Doom. I agree with coach, it shouldn't have anything to do with hate, for the opposing school or fans. Go CATS! EMAW
Allen and Southlake-Carroll high schools would have a better chance of delivering the Dallas market than SMU or TCU would. I'd love for the PAC to take them both. It will do nothing to add more revenue to the conference and would result in at least the 2 marquee teams, UO & UW, leaving for the B10 and the 4 corner schools joining the B12.
Potential addition of new schools could be holding up the signing of grant of rights.
Besides the GOR streaming is what is holding up the media deal. No one wants heavy streaming where your tv ratings are going to plummet by at least 50%.
Ok I know football is the big sport that pays the bills and Basketball is second. That said all other sports help bring in recruits as well as keep your academics strong. Colorado right now doesn't help anywhere, The Arizona schools help in golf, baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball as would Oregon and Washington. Utah maybe a little more in Football but I don't know their history in the other sports. The national exposure from the Arizona schools would help to offset the loss of Oklahoma and Texas in those sports because of the history they have. To me that is overlooked by the media and the average fan, it's not just the football teams that are going to the SEC. The BIG12 needs to remember that when looking at schools to expand with. What are your thoughts on this John?
Don't forget KU's chant to Eat 'em up, eat 'em up KSU.
If the PAC-12 expands, the first look will be looking to schools in the Pacific and Mountain time zones....
Much as there are plenty of jilted Big 12 schools who want to see an invitation from the left coast, I just don't see the likelihood.
If I had to guess PAC-X expansion: I'd point to SDSU, Fresno State, UNLV, and Air Force.
Watched you after Cowboys v Brady game.
6:15 discussion of Wilner mailbag, Pac12 expansion; SDSU, Fresno; SMU, etc.; ( TCU ???) [BIG10 prior interest trumps] Pac12 expansion may not happen, but if it does, it should be done before start of the season, after Media Rights deal get done. Pac12 has no sense of urgency... over at 16:00

I find it extremely funny how the B-12 fans have this arrogance about them HILARIOUSLY weird .. y’all lost 2 of the most prestigious programs in the country… I like the conference, but OU and Texas cannot be replaced.
I never understood the absolute vitriol State fans feel towards KU. It’s really unlike any other fan base in the nation. It’s just my opinion and yes, I’m a KU person…but its really a terrible look for KSU and the other fans that act normal.
it's just growing up having EVERY ku fan talking trash on K-State our whole lives...
@@dacokc it’s not like KSU hasn’t seen any success against Kansas. Isn’t there a difference between rivalry and outright rudeness? There’s a reason your head coach is saying these things…
@@w.jasonspangler2952 I agree. Head coach is making steps in the right direction.. I’m just saying growing up we’ve mostly dealt with rude KU fans throughout our childhood.. that’s probably why a lot of KState fans have a chip on our shoulder..
@@w.jasonspangler2952 also, it’s not the majority of KState fans.. you get a few “bad apples” that get these chants going… and then some people join in (herd mentality)… KU fans aren’t immune to being rude themselves.. I’ve been around my fair share.
@@dacokc fair. We had the issue of “Rip his f-king head off!” Yelled at kickoffs for years which most of us at KU despised. Eventually pressure from the majority made the fans who were doing it stop. Hopefully the same happens in Manhattan.
Kstate fan actually admitting that they're a bunch of losers, lol
