- Wendy Bagwell - Rattlesnake story - Not Jerry Clower This is a story I remember as a kid I thought it was Jerry Clower but it was Wendy Bagwell. Very funny about a snake handling church he visited.

I remember listening to this in the car with mom on 8 track! 😂
This was a popular routine and often played on the radio when I was younger (40 years younger). One day I was driving in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas, when I saw the Bagwell RV at a filling station. I could tell it was his RV because it had painted on the side "Wendy Bagwell." I guess he was on his way to or on his way from an engagement. I hastily wheeled around and came to a stop by the RV and knocked on the door. Mr. Bagwell opened the door and I politely requested his autograph which he graciously provided. I almost never have the opportunity to meet a celebrity happenstance but I met him out of the blue and unexpected. Thanks for the post. He is as funny today as he ever was.

_You learn something new every day on RUclips._ My home is in west suburban Atlanta. Georgia Hwy. 6 runs from the Atlanta airport through Clayton, Fulton, Douglas, Cobb and Paulding Counties. It runs through more counties west of Paulding, but I'll stop there. It assumes different names as it traverses these counties. In Paulding, it is known as _Wendy Bagwell Parkway_ .
For over twenty years, I have assumed this was a woman. Now I have "The Rest of the Story", as Paul Harvey used to say.

Sadly, there's been another death in Kentucky. Thanks so much for posting this, because it is an accurate, if humorous, description of my own research in snake-handling churches in Georgia. Great faith demonstrated by these people.

@@SmyrnaApostolicMissionI agree. I mean, as a Pentecostal I believe we should be seeking the Holy Spirit, but snake handling is not one of those things people should be doing to seek Him.
Ive been asking people for 40 years if they ever heard this one. Nobody's heard it but me. Now I have found my people lol

When I was growing up, eons ago, a kid at school to me that a particula church in town handles snakes. When the was sold and a totally new congregation took ownership they had to post a sign that said "We do not handle snakes".
I’m 28 from Breckinridge county Kentucky my daddy told me about this story but couldn’t remember the man’s name who told it but I’m glad I’ve finally found it.
While we are on the subject f snakes, I want to relate a story that happened at church just this past Sunday (24 Jul 2016). The service was over and the minister was standing by the escape, I mean, the door shaking hands and blessing attendees. The was quite a knot of people waiting to leave. The minister's wife, which I have seen get the spirit on occasion, came rushing up the aisle yelling, "Has anyone got a snake? Has anyone got a snake?" I wondered why she wanted a snake when the services were already over. As it turned out, the women's commode had clogged and she wanted one of the men to fix it. True story.

That's the comedy routine by Ray Stevens, "Mississippi Squirrel Revival.". Hilarious, he even has a newer video of it. You'll love it.

Wendy Bagwell has a comedy routine about going to a play when he was in grade school. Not sure the name of it. It is very funny. Take care and God bless.

How old are you because I remember Jerry Clower had a story and it ended "no back door...reckon where do they want one". Also Clower used the interlude "oooh" in his sketches.

There was a man who was killed after a rattlesnake bite in Greene County, Tenn in 1985 after one of those snakehandling events in a church. Some of those people would also drink lye and hold torches of fire next to their face.
I won't say anything against them, but I feel like this is people taking something out of the Bible in a way it was not intended by GOD. Faith is a good thing. GOD BLESS ALL.
