The Jakarta city itself is already pretty well integrated with the public transit, the problem comes from the jabodetabek area, where they don't have a sufficient public transit to their offices in Jakarta, and are very dependent on cars to go to work, the jabodetabek area need to be merged into one administration so they can have a well integrated public transit!
The Jakarta city itself is still not pedestrian-friendly nor it is bike-friendly due to the lack of walkable sidewalks and protected bike lanes, the govt still have so many things to do in order to improve the city traffic and livability
The solution is very simple, very obvious, and it has been sitting there since the colonial era, that solution is the commuter line. The commuter line's sole purpose is to connect the surrounding area to Jakarta's heartland and yet here we are spending money on a system built from scratch that will take god knows how long to become used to its potential. While extending the commuter line includes quite a lot of relocations, not to mention upgrading tracks to DDT due to many lines being shared tracks and that reduces efficiency of the system, even so, extending the Commuter line in my opinion is a better investment than building the advanced MRT which takes too long to build
Asal tahu aja, biar Jakarta jalur MRT, LRT, dan Busway makin diperbanyak, tetap aja macetnya tidak berkurang. You have to also mention the integration of privately owned public minibuses into the transjakarta and jaklingko network which eliminates idling minibuses waiting for passengers occupying space on the streets, which created traffic congestions in the past. While it is not totally solved but this made huge impact on the traffic and attracting many more public transports passengers with single fare for 3 hours wherever they go as long as they stay within the network.
Trans Jakarta Busway are so elegant , brand new buses and luxury and very cheap only 3.5 Rupiah we can feel the super comfortable in every route .MRT Jakarta is also very brand new and luxury and also LRT and Jaklingko Public Transport .All public transport in Jakarta including Commuter Line (KRL) are very luxury , very smart clean , very fast . No wonder in 2021 Jakarta was named as The Best Sustainable Transport City in the World ! So wonderful .This is the best city in Asia cause Jakarta proves to be a city that can reduce traffic jams !! One more thing ....there is not a shred of trash on public transport in Jakarta ...very clean !
All the lrt and MRT is yet functional, yet the congestion rank drop from 4 to 46. It is obviously not for those reasons it is dropped. Its jaklingko which connect small busses (angkot) medium busses (metro, kopaja etc) with transjakarta. hence no more rustic, old angkot and metro mini stops and congested the roads. all the busses are paid by the jakartan government in each kilometer and subsidized for the jakartan only paid for 30 cents usd for 3 hours around jakarta with any mode of transport.
Duterte is the close friend of jokowi, they have so many siliar background. A lot of jokowi idea has been shared and followed by duterte. From destroying drugs, infrastructure boom and build the country from the side or the edge of the country first
Philippines made the mistake of not building more LRTs and MRTs only recently approving and constructing more. We literally had one before anyone else in south east Asia and now every country have better systems

Whilst the investment in infrastructure is welcome, it was only anticipated to keep up with the then growth trajectory. The reason for the lack of congestion is that the economy has been crashed. This means that far fewer people live in Jakarta, with large numbers having returned to the land in their villages (my village used to send 8 bus fulls per day to Jakarta now there are 2 empty buses). Very recently the congestion is creeping back and I would anticipate a return to Jakarta's problems as a economy slowly recovers. Indeed, before the MRT could establish a loyal customers many people were banned from using it, it will take time to re-establish a customer base. Whereas the cost of the Jakarta to Bandung new rail link is way beyond the means of most Jakarta and Bandung residents and will largely be used by civil servants.
I don't see any improvement to be honest, it's getting worse with the increasing number of private vehicles & bad driving attitude. You can only see improvement in Jakarta's traffic during holiday season (such as Lebaran holiday or school holiday).
It has improved, 2019 was no.9 according to TomTom's ranking and now it's no.29, as someone who visited Jakarta back in 2015 and recently again in 2023, the traffic is definitely better, worst traffic I ever been in was 4 hours in Johannesburg but that was an exceptional case, Jakarta has regular flooding which worsens traffic sometimes.

LRT havent even finish yet and the MRT are still very short route and few station so didnt do much to ease the congestion, even more its have nothing to do with jakarta-bandung fast train which the cost keep exploding like crazy. why jakarta congestion ease clearly thanks to Jaklingko, connected every public transportation from commuter line, Transjakarta, to angkot(like a tuktuk), plus revitalize most of sidewalk for pedestrian, even add the bike line, increasing the choice of people to commute from A to B (before it was so bad so most people perfer use their own veichle instead)

Very recently the congestion is creeping back and I would anticipate a return to Jakarta's problems as a economy slowly recovers. Indeed, before the MRT could establish a loyal customers many people were banned from using it, it will take time to re-establish a customer base. Whereas the cost of the Jakarta to Bandung new rail link is way beyond the means of most Jakarta and Bandung residents and will largely be used by civil servants.

I don't see any improvement to be honest, it's getting worse with the increasing number of private vehicles & bad driving attitude. You can only see improvement in Jakarta's traffic during holiday season (such as Lebaran holiday or school holiday).

It has improved, 2019 was no.9 according to TomTom's ranking and now it's no.29, as someone who visited Jakarta back in 2015 and recently again in 2023, the traffic is definitely better, worst traffic I ever been in was 4 hours in Johannesburg but that was an exceptional case, Jakarta has regular flooding which worsens traffic sometimes.

LRT havent even finish yet and the MRT are still very short route and few station so didnt do much to ease the congestion, even more its have nothing to do with jakarta-bandung fast train which the cost keep exploding like crazy. why jakarta congestion ease clearly thanks to Jaklingko, connected every public transportation from commuter line, Transjakarta, to angkot(like a tuktuk), plus revitalize most of sidewalk for pedestrian, even add the bike line, increasing the choice of people to commute from A to B (before it was so bad so most people perfer use their own veichle instead)
